    A lot of people have commented that a $600 guitar is not cheap or budget. I would agree, which is why we recommend you find them used, which puts you more at the $3-400 range. I believe that is attainable for most all budgets.
    If you have under $100, in my experience it is going to be very difficult to find a guitar that will be very playable, and if you're a beginner, a guitar that is very difficult to play will cause you to stop practicing quickly. If you've got $1-200, we think it's a much better strategy to keep saving for a bit until you can find something like what we've recommended on the used market for just a bit more.

      +Worship Tutorials I wouldn't agree with your claim that someone will stop practicing very quickly on a poor instrument. My first guitar cost my mom three dollars, had very high action, I never took lessons or had the guitar worked on, but I started playing it nonstop from the age of seven, often for at least ten or twelve hours a day. The very next guitar I got was my Gretsch at the age of fifteen, and it was so easy to play that I was an instant whiz. I've never forgotten how I came to be a player, and it seems to refute your claim. Do a little more research before you advise newcomers on that particular subject. Maybe a difficult instrument is just the thing to find out if a newbie has more than a speck of actual desire in them. Of course we'd all love to start out on a nice guitar, but reality dictates otherwise. I'd have learned how to play if my dad would have strung a piece of barbed wire along a wood rasp.

      +Worship Tutorials In my experience, REALLY cheap guitars are not even worth buying, or if you're gonna buy it, get it used. They're truely bad. I got one only to put signatures on it in my wedding. But if you're gonna go for cheap and good value, go for Seagull. No question. Don't bother with Takamine. The martin you guys mentioned is great and has good resale value. Fender, Epiphone, gibson acoustics are garbage, even on the high end

  • @Molbyone
    @Molbyone Před 7 lety +23

    Simple motto : Buy it nice or buy it twice. What these guys are suggesting are guitars/amps that are fairly affordable (considering the quality) and should last you for quite a while. If their suggestions are too expensive for you, that's okay as there are definitely less expensive options, but not much that I would consider "gig able" or of the quality to take to small or large gigs. Buying something cheaper/lower in quality isn't going to last you as long and you will end up having to buy a mid-range guitar and your overall investment is now a bit higher. Absolutely look for used before new.
    End of the day, everyone has their preferences. Everybody is entitled to their own opinions and I think these guys did a solid job outlining some gear that isn't a bunch of toys but fair quality instruments that will last you more than the original set of strings or tubes.

    First off God bless you for such a positive CZcams channel, we need more things positive these days.
    I have been buying and trading gear pretty much since I started playing, I am a tinker. I have to say your advice is spot on. I even own an Agile Les Paul copy as my #1. For those who say that $300 is not a cheap guitar, these gentlemen are only saying the truth. I love cheap guitars but Bryce and Brian are being very helpful if you are at the point where you already have your required Starcaster pack and you are confident that you are going to stick with the guitar for awhile and you are looking to step up you playing a bit while preserving your marriage or not having to get a second job.
    Keep up the good work guys.... Subscribed

    I've been just getting into electric guitar recently. I've played acoustic for most of my musical journey, but I enjoy playing electric guitar when I want to get a different sound. Could you maybe do a video introducing some pedals for beginners. I don't know much about pedals and would love a video on it. Maybe include something (or make a separate video) on loop pedals and how to use them. I used a loop pedal for a day or two when I was first learning guitar. Now that I'm much farther and better, I would like to play with a loop pedal because it was fun and I want to be able to play multiple things and make more complex music. Also, what are some pedals that you would suggest for someone who wants to start using pedals?

    • @davidwilliama.7296
      @davidwilliama.7296 Před 8 lety

      I'm not entirely sure what kind of sound I want in particular. I experiment with a bunch of different styles. I have a Behringer LX210. I got it from my brother recently along with his old Laguna guitar for $80. I do know that I want a loop pedal. Other than that, I play worship music, some rock (like The Classic Crime and Listener), and some songs by Ed Sheeran, Twenty One Pilots, and many other bands. I like the TC Helicon VoiceLive Play pedal that Worship Tutorials reviewed recently. There's one for electric and one for acoustic (I'm pretty sure). Anyways, I think that it would be a pretty good one to start out with because it's so versatile. I don't really know many others that I would like (maybe reverb, a distortion pedal, and something I haven't even thought of).

    • @KristofferNHavn
      @KristofferNHavn Před 8 lety

      Well, I suggest taking a look at the Boss RV-6 reverb pedal, then. That's a good reverb pedal at a fairly affordable price. And Boss also does loop pedals. When it comes to distortion it's really hard to suggest a specific pedal, as there are so extremely many different types of distortion. I suggest going to a music store and try out a few different distortion and overdrive pedals and see what you like the most yourself.

    • @davidwilliama.7296
      @davidwilliama.7296 Před 8 lety

      Thanks. I'll look into some Boss pedals and try to go to guitar center. I didn't know that you could try out the pedals at a music store. I thought that you could just try the instruments.

    To anyone looking for a good entry-level budget acoustic guitar I would recommend the Yamaha FG700s as a good starter guitar. I bought this as my first guitar a year ago and I still play it nearly every day, it stays in tune very well, ( I only need to tune it every few days ) it also has a rosewood finger board, a dreadnought style body, and a solid Sitka spruce top. It would be less than ideal for playing in church or something but it makes a great starter guitar for $200. I would recommend buying it from Kraft music to get a hardshell case bundle for $220. That's my two cents anyway, hope it helps.

    I've been playing music since about December of 2004. I think these guys are going a little overboard with their picks for the best budget guitars. Here's my line up - Yamaha Pacifica - $80 used and I replaced the tuners. Schecter Omen 6 - Probably about $400 new. Squier 70's VM Jazz bass - $400 new. Jay Turser P Style bass - $230 new. Harley Benton B-550 5 string bass - a little under $300 after shipping (like $180 on it's own) and it's killer for the price. Fender CD-100 acoustic - around $350 and it felt better than the guitars worth a couple hundred more. Beaver Creek Classical guitar - Used for $120 I think. Fender Deluxe VM guitar amplifier - Picked up used for $400. Are some of these instruments great? No, but they're pretty decent with some love. They would especially work for a beginner. If I were a beginner I would never pay $500+ for an instrument. I don't even want to pay that over 10 years in. You can find tons of quality instruments for a low price, you just have to do some research.

    • @Just-Michael
      @Just-Michael Před 8 lety

      I don't know when mine was made but it's not great on it's own. I say that because who knows what kind of improvements they've made in newer models. I bought it from a pawn shop owner after his store closed down so I have no idea how long he had it. But the tuners were not good, and the pickups are very usable but completely "meh" at the same time. I'm planning on dropping some hot Wilkinsons in it, as well as my Schecter. After all the upgrades I'll probably have payed as much as a brand new one! As far as playing goes, it's absolutely fine. If you can find a good deal on one, you should go for it. The humbucker and 2 single coils offer a good variety of tones to play with.

I am a heavy strummer, so my hand moves a lot, so I scratched the the finish in front and below the pick guard and on the other side of the strings away from the pick guard. You guys are preaching everything that I have come to learn through hours of research....Where was this video 6 months ago?!?!?! I do want to say though that you shouldn't discredit solid state. They're more reliable and if you buy the right amp, it can sound fantastic. For example, the quilter amps. They're brilliantly clean, take pedals amazingly, have a DI so that makes mics history, and they have an insane amount of wattage for their size. I can fit my toneblock and my pedals into a backpack with plenty of room for other cables, books, etc.
    ps. Thanks for the good words on GFS's xavier jm style guitar. I was hesitating but now i'll pull the trigger.

I'm very happy with my Fender Telecaster American Pro, and I'm looking for another guitar with humbuckers, for more gain, low output, with definition in the treble. I have two options right now. A gretsch G5230T FL and Fender Player Telecaster HH. Gretsch sounds great, but I see problems with the Bigsby. Telecaster sounds great, but it sounds like Fender. I love the sound of Lambertobes Crema, I'd like something close to it. What are your thoughts on these two guitars? What would you do if you were me?

    Squire Classic Vibe Telecaster. It does need a set up (but I am in the middle of building a Les Paul type guitar from scratch. One of the most difficult builds I've ever done.) I plan on changing the (Tele) nut to a different material and getting locking tuners before doing the set up. I've learned to set up my guitars with very low action and a straight neck using a little fall away starting around the 12th fret all the way to the last fret. A very slight taper. I go back and blend it into the whole fretboard. Then re-crown the fret wire of course. After that I adjust the nut string slots to almost touching the first fret. I do this by feel mostly but I use feeler gauges to get close. If I go too far, I use just a little fine bone dust and a drop or two of super glue. This has raised the strings to exactly the right height both times I've done it. I lower the bridge as close as I can then raise it until I get no buzz. If it doesn't feel right or get buzz then I repeat the process.

The only thing is when you get it you might want to change a few things. For sure change the strings when you first get it. • @worshiptutorials

      Sure. Typically it means setting the neck relief (truss rod) appropriately, setting the string height (both at the bridge and the nut), setting the intonation, and any minor fret work that may need to be done.
      I might do a video showing how to do all of it soon. It's not as hard as it sounds.

    Thanks for answering the most asked question hahah
    1. What do you guys mean by consistency?
    2. What would be better to start with? An acoustic guitar or classical guitar?

    • @worshiptutorials
      @worshiptutorials  Před 8 lety

      +violetnhz By consistency, we mean that if you saw 5 of the same guitar hanging on the wall at a store, 1 of them might play/sound really good while the other 4 aren't so great. Generally lower end/cheap guitars are made with without the same quality control standards as higher end guitars (which is why they're cheaper), so they are not consistent from guitar to guitar within the same model.
      A classical guitar is technically an acoustic guitar, but I'm assuming you mean a steel string acoustic vs a nylon string classical. I'd go with a steel string acoustic for sure, unless you specifically play a style that needs a classical guitar, like Spanish style music, for example.

    • @davidwilliama.7296
      @davidwilliama.7296 Před 8 lety

      +violetnhz I personally use a classical guitar (I have two of them) and I've played steel string acoustic guitars as well as electric guitars. The guitar you get shouldn't be based completely on the style of music you play. I play many genres on all guitars (I even do rap with a ukulele, but that's beside the point). The main thing you should focus on is what sounds the best to you and what you're more comfortable playing. Steel string acoustics are great for strumming or playing with a pick. They're harder to play with your fingers and they have they're own sound and feel. Nylon string classical guitars have softer strings that are farther apart making them easier to play with your fingers (for finger style or if you just don't like using a pick. They also have a wider neck and a softer sound than steel string guitars. What I would do is go to a guitar center or a local music shop and play some of each type and decide for yourself what you like best. For worship songs, a steel string might be better, but I prefer classical because I'm used to playing them and I like they're feel/sound. I like the Cordoba C-5 CE classical guitar and the Takimine G series for steel string. I'm also a fan of Taylor guitars, but those are quite expensive and I don't own one (yet...), but I have played them and they are so amazing. Anyways, just try some guitars at a shop like guitar center (hopefully something like that is near you) and you'll hopefully find what you like.

    You can find the fender hot rod deluxe for around 300 used. I bought a Gibson lespaul for 500 with Seymour Duncan antiquity mini humbuckers. The AC 15 has a digital reverb. A really good affordable tube amp is the bugera v22 combo. Another great affordable stack is the egnater tweaker 15 watt. Because that amp has a voicing switch to sound like a fender, Vox and Marshall for around 650.

    • @moreanimalspirits
      @moreanimalspirits Před 8 lety

      +Ian Stanley Well, the Tele will have a 25.5" scale is about the only difference. The longer scale length means it will have more clarity and treble, and I find it easier to play up closer to the neck, because you get more space.
      I personally find the gold foil pickups have too much treble, but that could be what you want. I would probably keep the GFS pickups on it, or get with one more vintage type single coils or P90's.
      Make sure you set the Xaviere up and see how low the strings can go without buzzing. I got one that sounded amazing, but could never be set up right because the neck was too messed up.
      The radius of the X's are 12" which are flatter than vintage 9.5" tele's, but has more curve than the typical 16" LP's.

    I lead worship in a small church and I'm always looking for ways to improve the quality of our sound on our very limited budget. You guys have helped me tremendously over the last couple years, from the pads (that I now NEVER play without) to your guitar and gear reviews... It was a more than a coincidence that I was in the market for a new acoustic, went into Guitar Center and they had a Martin DCPA5 on clearance. I must have played 25 guitars that day, and this was shortly after your video on the Martin D-35, I gotta say that no other guitar plays like a Martin. I have never for one second regretted that purchase. I bought a Line-6 pod for our electric guitar player based almost solely off your review and we couldn't be happier. There's almost nothing that pod can't do.
    If you're looking for ideas for future videos, especially for those of us that are always looking for ways to do it "cheap" (or on a budget), maybe you could do a video on putting all of the budget gear to work in a worship setting. I know that guys like me look to leaders like you for inspiration and direction, maybe you could help us all with how you would do a dirty cheap setup in a smaller church and how you'd expand it to a larger format. Maybe even some "behind the scenes" video of one of your worship sets or a rehearsal?Thank you guys very much for all that you do. The available resources for guys like me a few and far between, I'm so glad that the Lord has lead you to share your expertise and experience with us. God bless you all and keep up the good work.

    Best cheap guitar should be under $300 for an acoustic and $200 for an electric. For acoustic something like the Yamaha FG730S would suffice and for electric the Epiphone LP special or the Squier Affinity Strat. there are 10-15 in each category that would be better than the more expensive recommendations here to be described as cheap.

      Bob Marioni I bought an epiphone les paul special 2 with an amp and everything on amazon for about 170 dollars and it works fine.

    Bluse Jr uses EL84 tubes. The one Fender with the more British sound.

    I would recommend a Fender Modern Player Tele, (not Squier). I have the sunburst one, and I have to say it is the best guitar versatility wise. You get two single coils and a humbucker in the bridge position, and a five way way selector switch. It doesn't get more versatile than that.
