I have used my floor standing makiwara for at least 30 years .I still use it every other day , but mainly now for exercise and breathing ( I am 81 ) .My hands are strong and hard and no arthritis.
Its funny as I met a new guy ( much younger than me ) only 2 days ago and when we shook hands , I knew he was trying to give me a strong handshake ( but a little too strong on 1st aquantance ) so I reciprocated back .
I noticed he soon gave up the idea .LOL

    巻藁叩くと、初めは手の皮がむけてずるずるになるよね。
    巻藁も血で真っ赤になるし。懐かしい~

Right or wrong I have this image of stern-faced Japanese (or Okinawan) masters who don't seem to enjoy life let alone their art. Maybe there are enough people out there that contribute to my perception but here I see to esteemed men who are obviously very serious about their art sharing knowledge, smiling, enjoying the interchange. I love it and I love the attention to detail. If I were twenty maybe I'd figure out a way to spend 18 mos studying Isshin Ryu (?) at this dojo and I'd be grateful for the opportunity.

Makiwara is a very useful exercise to strengthen the hands
Hitting the goal helps to develop speed, strength, and precision in defense art Makiwara is part of the traditional karate complementary training called Hojo undo
Makiwara is a simple and easy tool and you can make it at home and train it daily for a quarter of a half hours to make your hands steel
But what is important here is that you need to train it correctly or otherwise it has a loss
    Especially those students who started

    巻き藁の振動の仕方がそれぞれ違うように思える。
    突きの質が違うのか、スーパースローでの撮影と巻き藁の打撃面に振動計、加速度計。荷重計等の計測器を付けて計測してみたい。

Dear Sir..... I don't know if you can read English.. I hope so.... I absolutely love this series of videos... I love seeing how all the different styles of Karate are connected and in fact how they have just evolved as different interpretations of the same thing...or have taken a specific emphasis to a specialised level. Thank you again!

It would appear that both instructors have a great of genuine respect for each other. I wonder would Okinawan karateka be interested in visiting Naka Sensei's Tokyo dojo as an exchange training visit?

it sure is interesting, but any Okinawan karateka knows that he got a lifetime of skills and information within Okinawan itself the variety of styles and philosophies adopted by all the sensei....that should keep any practitioners occupied for multiple lifetimes xd

in the video he said, "we don't lift our heels, we push through them" it's about timing the movement of the whole body, from the heel on the floor, through the hip and shoulder into the fist. This is the benefit of the makiwara, it gives feedback on your movements when you make contact

    その感触を体に覚えさせる
    それが巻藁の本質です
    手の表面を鍛えるのではない

    • @kokiimai6149
      @kokiimai6149 Před 2 lety +3

      腰を入れるのではなく、腰を切る
      しかも初動の一瞬だけ腰を切れば良い
      あとはその勢いに任せて、鞭のように拳を前方に放り出す
      そして当たる直前に拳を握り込む
      鎖鎌の分銅のように拳を使う
      そうすると巻藁がバイーンと鳴って良くしなります
