  • In this video I´m gonna I how I install a tank and plumbing for the residual water of a tiny house and how I install everything inside a barge for a tiny house on wheels that we built in our workshop that we´ll move to Michigan to install over the water.
    Before everything we´ll need a really big barge to get floating this house.

    Back in the 1950's my dad built a flat platform and put 55 gallon drums under it. Then put a 8' X 32' mobile home on it and removed the axles. Bolted it to the deck and that was it.

    Just now seeing this... One thing that struck me when you talked about the 1/4 inch slope needed for the fill pipe. This would be subject to the trim of the barge... which would be subject to the weight distribution.... which would be HIGHLY unpredictable when you have third parties living on/in them. While the minimum is 1/4 inch, I would suggest to confer with the barge builders and find out their thoughts on the maximum likely slope that the main deck is likely to have. Next, being as you built the house going on top, you should have some idea as to which end is heavier and by how much. An unrelated check would be to determine your house's weight difference side-to-side. If it is close, no biggie... otherwise, consider changing the design in some way to even out the weight.
    Just some (late to the party) thoughts...

    I watch videos on "DUTCH BARGES in Europe and, I have to say, I really, really like them. Some barges are built without engines. I just watched one video where the barge is about 62/65 feet long, 2 baths, 4BDRMs , quite nice and very spacious!

    Why wouldn't you just already have the piping for the secondary tank installed with a valve to flip between the two? Low Effort.

    Chicago as well, and Navy hull tech vet. Can you please tell me who the builders are? I would like to work there when I retire, or pick their brain. I also have some question for you if you don't mind.

    If the barge is on a tilt while floating in the marina (for example, if the barge + its load has an uneven weight distribution), won't the 1/4" pipe slope per foot not be enough? Don't you want a more aggressive slope just in case the tilt of the boat negates the 1/4" slope?

      Also it's going to Michigan/cold weather no wrap on pipe/or tanks heat tape or something unless they are not using them in winter! I would like to know more about the place that is building the barge and how big they can build and prices great product with a tiny house 🏠🏡. You might have started a new business for your self!

    Seems like that if they are welding everything from scratch it should be easy to add in an access hole and door/cover/etc for working on or replacing those tanks.

  • @albertreed966
    @albertreed966 Před rokem

    Was there a restriction on length? The first thing I thought of was there being a problem with a replacement should there be a failure with a tank. I would have tried to place a tank on one end with a deck above it that could be removed to replace. and I really would want enough width to walk around on the outside. I really do like the concept! Are there any tax advantages being as there's no land that the place is setting on !

    Big mistake installing the tanks before the hull is completed and metal is all treated and sealed. Better to have a hatch and install later. If for whatever reason there is a a leak and the tank has to be removed, you have to cut the boat apatr to get it out and install another one. Yup,engineered to fail.
    There is a floating home near me, after ten yeras the black tank started to leak. $80000 to replace it, when it should hav cost a fraction of that price if some though went into it during the building.
