    I had the same surgery 13 years ago and I have no pain from it. I was walking on my own after 6 weeks ,I didn't have the patience to wait, walking was a big help and swimming. The weather can cause pain sometimes but nothing intolerable.

    Hi there Evelyn.
    I had this operation bilaterally with Trigen nails in October 2009, I do suffer from a slight 'quad lag' which may be what you are describing. I am unable to fully straighten my left leg, the knee lags around 10-15 degrees. It's not really stiff in any way though, just incapable of fully straightening.
    For those that have had this, persevere, I was walking four days after this operation and within 3 months I was walking without crutches and back on the motorbike. ;)!
    Cheers!

I just hope that vertical bone fragment attach properly with the rest of the bone.

    Didn't get to physio until week 4. At week 9 now and have gone from a 5 degree bend to a 85 degree bend (with allot of pain and hard work) Still not allowed do bear more than 50% weight on it. Can't tackle the stairs yet either as knee only had cast off 3 weeks ago and gone from 0 degree to 55 (again with allot of pain and work) but can put 100% weight on it.
    Really want to go up stairs to my bed soon.

    • @misschickenlady
      @misschickenlady Před 10 lety

      Samuel what bend do you have now and what percentage of weight are you putting on it?
      I'm week 11 now and my right leg (femur break side) went backwards to 80 bend while the knee improved to 65. I was allowed to take cruches home and tackle the stairs. Its great but only allowed once a day until my legs are stronger.
      Xray shows bone healing but not fully yet. Surgeon told me to add 10% weight bearing each week. Yesterday I shuffled without cruches across the room. No pain. But I'll wait until physio to see what they say before I do it again.
      Let me know how you get on. Best of luck with your recovery.

    18 months ago I had an operation of which involved a metal rod (including pins and screws) fitted in my right femur. I was thinking can it stay in there for life? If I take it out in the next year, my right femur will not be as secure/strong as it would be with the metal rod.
    So I'm wondering, could there be any possible, SERIOUS complications if I was to have the metal rod in my right femur for life? I've researched that people (younger people) tend to have it taken out, but wouldn't it only make the femur less secure and strong? As the femur is the strongest and hardest bone in the body, I feel as if now my femur is permanently damaged. The metal rod is its shield. Personally I don't want to take it out...just yet.
