  • Filmed by Geoff Stokes of www.brentwoodclassics.co.uk Geoff and I own a 1957 MK11 Zephyr Highline ourselves which is currently under restoration, so we do have a genuine interest in the club. Two of the Consuls you see here, were painted at Geoff's classic vehicle restoration garage in Essex. Filmed 30th September 2012 at Battlesbridge 26th Grand Motorbilia Day in Essex England. Please look at their websites for information on the many events held here www.battlesbridge.com www.battlesbridge.com/events.php

    My Grandfather bought a consul in 1961. One year later he passed. My father took ownership of it. He had it for years. My father has since passed. But looking at these cars, reminds me of my father. I miss him so.

    We had a blue-&-white Zephyr Mk II when I was a lad in Canada. No troubles I knew of, and my parents liked it (Mom learned to drive in it). Totalled by a drunk driver; my Dad stopped a sec to look at TV before leaving for work, otherwise he'd have been beside or in it.

    Always liked the Mk2, passed my test in one (BSM). Back in 1968 I and a mate were dabbling in the motor trade, we bought a Mk2 convertible for £17.50 from the block, cleaned it and put it straight in the local paper and it sold for £40.

      I paid £65 for a primrose yellow one (1962 Consul 375 mkII convertible) in 1971. Wish I still had it! Needed a respray but built well.

    Loved a Ford served my Apprenticeship there .Had a couple of Zodiacs around the 60s..myself.. When I was there The chairman had a special turquoise/white Zodiac a one off built coup 2 door Zodiac [ not convertible ].. It had the wide chrome American Ford Fairline side body strips .It looked the business in the day I wonder if its still about maybe stored by Ford ..I wonder if any of mine are still about .....Terry Moxley

    Lovely selection of mk2s. I always thought that the Zephyr front grille looked best. The Zodiac one looked too fussy for my taste. Two questions, if anyone can answer: Did the fitted sun visor cause higher fuel consumption? I recall the rear lights on the early highline Consuls were sloped off at 45 degree angles and less fin like with no chrome. Or maybe my memory is playing tricks?

    This specific video was only about the MK11 Ford Zephyr, Consul and Zodiac owners club stand (1950s to very early 60s).

    I had a mk2 yob type Zephyr years ago.... paid 65 quid for it... did 100 mph............ fuel consumption was awful and road holding almost non existent but I loved this car.

    Shame about the port holes added to the Zodiac.These add ons reduced the car instantly from executive status to teddy boy status.

    • @PonytailRuth
      @PonytailRuth  Před 7 lety +2

      I understand what you are saying, but they are also often owned by Teddy Boys, who want them to look exactly that way. We always like our personal various classic vehicles to look totally original. I guess it is horses for courses and we all think differently.

    Fords rival was the Austin A95/6 Westminster and then the A105/six which was a 2.6 litre engine with twin SU carbs and devolopd a 103 BHP. Those Austins lended them selves to the fitting of disc brakes and the Austin Healey 30000 Mk111 with the 150 BHP engine. Its a great pity that we dont see these lovely pastel colours anymore , which is a shame as they were cool in summer .

      @PonytailRuth  Před 7 lety

      I suggest you join the owners club as they are the best place to help. Also you need to be searching on Ebay. You may even need to import the parts needed, as they end up all around the world.

    You are not really sure on some models here. Actually in reality the lowlines were higher than the highlines. not a lot of people know this. Dave Debenham and me knew this 35 years ago. but its worth pointing out. good video tho

    Don't think the Ford Zodiacs, zephyrs and Consul range were ever aimed at the executive market, they would have been up against Jaguar, Daimler, Rover etc, the Ford's sold very well and created their own market, more family men with a reasonable salary bought them new than teddy boys,
