I'm glad to hear Jared recognise the quality of the Street Fighter movie. Guile's inspiring rallying cry to his troops is perhaps the greatest speech in the history of cinema, rivalled only by President Whitmore in Independence Day.

I always noticed how the live-action movie from the 90s and american cartoon show was seemingly trying to make the Street Fighters like some team force going against the Shadoloo comparable to G.I. Joe and Cobra, and the commercial for the figures outright just has Guile having "G.I. Joe" on his vest to hammer in that was exactly how they saw it.

For anyone wondering what the hell was going on with that ad, it starred the late great Rik Mayall, an anarchic UK comedian famous for comedy TV series like Bottom, The Young Ones, and Man Down. He was also Flasheart in Blackadder.
Nintendo wanted their UK ads to be a bit more edgy to compete with Sega, so they paid a very hefty sum to Rik, who was famously utterly mental, to make them. Apparently he bought a very nice house with the money.

Well, technically Street Fighter 2 Turbo had 2 versions seperated into 2 modes at the main menu. There was the Turbo mode, which was based on Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting and Normal Mode which was based on Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition. Sega pretty much did the same with their special champion edition, but we get to that next month. :P

Honestly, the entire version history is far more complicated (and different) that he suggests.

It's worth noting one of the things that kicked off the series of Street Fighter II enhancements was a mod called Street Fighter II Rainbow Edition. It cranked the game speed up, allowed Ryu and Ken to do multiple Hadokens in succession, Guile's Sonic Boom gained honing, etc. James Goddard, who did design support on Hyper Fighting, played it and told Capcom they needed an update. Development started immediately afterward. The rest is history!

Fun fact: Street Fighter II Turbo was the only Street Fighter game to be on the SNES Classic. I'm guessing because of the popularity that it was this version of the game and not Super II.

Ohhhh StarTrek next gen for gameboy!!! I had that! it's a really cool sim if you know what you are doing. The control are clunky but you get used to it. basically you get a quest from picard and to just do what he told you. Like go to planet A to pick up an ambassador and drop him off to planet B. So you warp there, go into orbit, beam the dude, warp to the next planet, maybe fight 1 or 2 ship, orbit the planet, beam down the dude. so the game is a bunch a small mission like that.

Splatterhouse is such an iconic game.
I’ve only ever played the first one, once or twice,
But they are an absolute treat to see in action, graphically.
Probably an unpopular opinion. But i think its one of the best games sega had to offer.
Sonic is alright…. But SPLATTERHOUSE?! That stuff scratches my horror and heavy metal itch.
One game I’d love to see a movie adaptation of.
Just a guy in a mask going berserk, fighting against grotesque creatures in an attempt to save his wife and son.

I really wish that Capcom would have included Final Fight 2 and 3 on one or the other Capcom Classics Collection disks for PS2. Almost all of the games were arcade games but the first CCC disk did include Super Ghouls N' Ghosts, another game that debuted on the SNES.

I remember getting SF2Turbo at Wherehouse Music and spend hours on it a day. Final Fight 2 we rented it at first but we end up buying the Japanese version because it was cheaper than the US version when we bought it for some odd reason. But it's fine because it was another Capcom title my brothers and I played so much.

Street Fighter II's legacy is long and complicated.
The first game was Street Fighter II: The World Warrior in 1991, which was such a success that Capcom released an expanded update in 1992, Street Fighter II': Champion Edition. Romhacks of CE proliferated (e.g. the infamous "Rainbow Edition"), so Capcom released another update eight months later, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, the SNES port of which is featured in this video. September-October of 1993 will see the arcade release of Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, which adds four new characters, new animations and moves for existing characters, and replaces a lot of the iconic voice lines; that one gets a SNES/Genesis port in 1994. Super Street Fighter II Turbo hits the arcade in early 1994, adding super moves, juggling, and throw tech, but the only notable console port it got at the time was to the 3DO.
Capcom moved on to develop Street Fighter III and didn't revisit II until they ported it to the Game Boy Advance in 2001 with the subtitle "Revival." Revival used sprites from both the arcade and SNES versions of SSFII, so some animations look weird for a frame or two, and replaced some stage backgrounds. Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition (2003), allowed players to choose which game version of their character to play, so you could pit SFII Ryu against SSFIIT Sagat, for example. In 2008 as a downloadable title, Capcom released Super Street Fighter II Turbo: HD Remix, with everything redrawn by UDON Entertainment to 1080p widescreen scale and the soundtrack remade by OverClocked ReMix members. In my opinion, the HD Remix visuals feel stiff and jerky because they were drawn to match the original sprites' animation frames; fortunately, the old sprites are still available as a visual option.
The last iteration of Street Fighter II to be released was Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, in 2017 on the Switch. It added Akuma, Evil Ryu, and Violent Ken to the roster and reverted the balance back to Super Turbo. Perhaps the oddest addition to the game was "Way of the Hado," a first-person shooter mode featuring Ryu where the player used the Joy-Con motion controls to fight Shadaloo soldiers.
