What kinda makes the whole "Tails is Robotnik's adopted son" deal better is, in an episode of Sonic BOOM Eggman gives Tails good advice on how to talk to a girl he has a crush on.

Just wanted to say that seeing Tais' spelt appropriately with the apostrophe made me so happy, happier than a Robonik being happy for his son Tails

Prevailing grammatical usage is apostrophe S after a singular possessive, whether the name ends in an S or not. A single apostrophe without an S is not usually considered *incorrect,* but it's not the most common usage and most style guides would recommend "Tails's" before "Tails'". Some, like the Chicago Manual of Style, outright discourage omitting the final S.
In a plural possessive (e.g., "the Romulans' warship" where "Romulans" refers to a collective group, not a singular Romulan), it's always just an apostrophe after the S, but that's a different grammatical rule and does not apply unilaterally to things like names ending in S.
