- Quiet Monday, but over the weekend I managed to catch the VP departing the US Naval Observatory on a non-scheduled helicopter mission. She flew up to Delaware for the day to visit the Biden-Harris Campaign headquarters. On Monday, a quiet day, we just bike around looking at some history and monuments in Washington, D.C.

I have learned more about D.C. watching your videos then I did for the 6 years I lived there while working on the Hill.
I have a friend who lives there and I 've taught her some things. She doesn't go to the White House as often as I do.

Thank you for the little tours. My 3 kids have been to Washington with school trips but I never have been there and doubt I will ever get there now. Wish my dad was still alive when the honor flights started and we could have taken a trip there to see the town in person. One trip I wish I would have made long before I became disabled.

Women have been involved in ceremonial duties of the Marine Corps since at least 1975. That is when the first women joined Marine Band that is called The President's Own. Since at least that time their role has expanded, and they have been pilots in the Marine One rotation since George W. Bush was President.
The marine in the back of the helicopter probably performs regular duties, he or she probably does not just perform ceremonial duties.

Many fire departments utilize reserve vehicles for 2 purposes.
If a vehicle breaks down, or needs maintenance, its crew can use the reserve vehicle as a substitute vehicle.
If extra firefighters staff the fire department while working overtime, the extra firefighters can use the reserve vehicles. Here in Southern California, a lot of fire departments use reserve vehicles to fight wildfires/brush fires/forest fires. They pay firefighters to work overtime and use the reserve vehicles to fight the wildfire.
If a particular fire department does not have any wildfires, it may staff its reserve vehicle and help some other fire department, such as the U.S. Forest Service fight a wildfire. The federal government will often pay whichever fire departments fight the wildfire.
The Super Bowl game will be played this coming Sunday near the Las Vegas Strip. The Clark County Fire Department might staff some reserve vehicles to protect the game. Several fire departments in the Las Vegas area might staff reserve vehicles to protect the extra crowds which will be in town for the game.

That is a good scanner, I use to carry a scanner but I am an Amateur Radio Operator so I just program my hand held radios with our local frequencies for All Emergency Services, that way I talk on the Amateur Radio bands and just listen to the Emergency Services Frequencies. It's a lot simpler that way for me. Thanks Andrew

I have learned so much from you, I would like to tell you about the Hay-Adams hotel located on the site where connecting mansions homes of John Hay and Henry Adams were built in 1889.
Hay was Lincoln' s private secretary in the White House and was at his bed side on his death.
Henry Adams was the grandson of John Quincy Adams and great-grandson of John Adams.
In 1927 the houses were razed and the Hay-Adams hotel was built on the site. The hotel is said to be hunted by Adams' wife Marian who committed suicide in their residency before the hotel was built. It is said she roams the hallways leaving a scent of almonds as she committed suicide with cyanide a chemical that smells like almonds. I have been at the bar on the main floor but didn't know the story of the almonds.

I used to go to Washington DC every Spring for a small advocacy organization on whose board I was a member of (National Association of Railroad Passengers, also known as NARP or Rail Passengers Association). I was able to stay in Washington for free because a friend of mine had a cousin who lived there and I knew how to do Washington on the cheap, supermarkets near Metro stations etc...
Years ago I did get to go to where the Vice President's head quarters were because they have a museum or something that tells or shows you how the Atomic Time runs. Forgive any misinformation as it's been a long time ago, and I haven't been to DC in 20 years.

No they didn't. I have followed it daily to when checking for potential Marine One and Air Force One flights. It has not been taken down and you can see all the historical data for the schedule.

The White House grass is tall fescue, and they do a lot of work on it throughout the year to keep it in good condition.
