    Bonnie. Great video. I might be nuts but I want to install a mosaic floor on my bathroom using patterns of our Plumeria, Roses and Bouganvilla for our yard. I think we can do this ourself and I am not concerned about how much time it will take. I need to research the proper tiles to use and cut and how to prepare the floor and how best to adhere the tiles.

    I have a question. I thought that one had to be super careful about any glue getting between the tessera or left at the sides as the grout would not stick to glue. But I see that there is always some left as you are demonstrating with the Cinca. It is very hard not to have a little excess and trying to get rid it with toothpicks etc. invariably moves a tile a bit. So, can I leave some??

    • @MakeitMosaics
      @MakeitMosaics  Před 2 lety

      Grout sticks to most adhesives, especially thin-set and Weldbond. You want to have somewhat clean spaces in between each tessera if you plan to grout. You can leave some, just want to not have any glue above the depth of the tie. Great question, thanks.

    Are there any rules to the form or pattern of how the tile needs to be placed? Example: specific rows or patterns need to follow the figure or drawing, with spacing, rows, pattern, etc. May I lay the pieces in free form?

    • @MakeitMosaics
      @MakeitMosaics  Před 2 lety +1

      Absolutely you can work freeform, it is really a matter of your taste and the goal of the artwork. The concept of andamento is often referred to, that idea comes from the European tradition of mosaic making and is the same idea as what some folks call lay patterns, how we choose to lay the tiles. Have fun, look at lots of mosaics and keep creating, you will figure out what works for you. Thanks for being a fan.

      @MakeitMosaics  Před 2 lety +1

      Lots of options! The internet is a treasure trove from stained glass patterns to royalty-free clip art - do a Google search. Or you have a photo or some image you like, let's say a picture of a fish, trace the basic shape using tracing paper- You don't need a detailed drawing, just a guide like what Kim demonstrates in the Mosaic Table Top using Glass video. Make larger on a photo copier. Great question!
