Shaker Cherry Table

  • This Shaker style table is made in Cherry. Shaker furniture is functional, simple, and uses little ornamentation. I'm not sure if the Walnut pins in the legs fit into the Shaker style but I liked the look, so in they went.
This was my first time making my own table buttons and they worked great. No more metal tabs when attaching tops!
The plan was to leave the end grain showing on the table top but I placed the biscuits too close on one side of the top. When I cut the top to length the biscuits were exposed, so I had to cover each end with a strip of Cherry.

It's lovely. The dark pins are beautifully understated and in keeping with the simple design.

Thanks, Jonathan! This piece is one of my favorite things I've made for the channel. It doesn't get many views but I love this little table. Thanks so much for checking it out.

Delicate design...Beautiful wood. I love the way it catches the light....Have to say, I love your jigs as much as your designs. An art in itself!!

I'd make one of these with hand tools, and it looked like you almost did the whole build in a day. Just cutting all those mortises and tenons would take a few days with hand tools!
    Nicely executed.

Definitely. I'd like to use more hand tools, gotta build up my confidence.

Normally I don't post something of a negative nature. But if you think that this man's machines built this piece of furniture, then you know nothing about furniture making in a home workshop.

@@stphnalln compared to crafting it by hand, with hand tools. Looks like you the one who knows nothing about creating furniture. Mr. Negative

I just finished a cherry Shaker table for my wife. Nice work on the table and I really liked the walnut pins, nice touch. I finished my table with tongue oil and wax, what were you using?

Thanks a lot, Roy! I like this project too. I used wipe on poly and mineral spirits mix as a finish. Maybe about 6 or 7 coats.
