ngl the Horus Heresy box would be a perfect way to instantly make armies for 'scavenger' space marine chapters like the Marines Malevolent and Cacharadons who are well known for having to scavenge for parts to arm their warriors
IKR! I play carcharodons and am frothing for some of those chain bayonets
@@robertweiss9635 Too bad it's 40x MkVI and not a single MkIII or MkV... Would ideally like a mix of all three for my Carcharodons. But the praetor with the two-handed axe could make for a nice Bail Sharr conversion..!
@@CitizenSnips88 I am going to switch out alot of heads I got some 3d printed carcharadon heads and I don't mind the armor being the same with some head diversity, but I do see you point 40 dudes of the same type is pretty redundant
I've always had the impression that its the other way around, that only the most esteemed, older founding chapters, or the ones with the most connections in high places get Horus Heresy relic gear, since its from the "glory days" of the Imperium and the Great Crusade, when not only primarchs, but the Emperor himself walked alongside the legions.
@@Flight_of_Icarus In lore the Carcharodons are a very ancient chapter presumably second founding, and as they are a nomadic fleet based chapter they get very little in the way of resupply and new equipment. That means they take very good care of of every peice of equipment to the point that the head techmarine sits at either the right or left hand of the chapter master. The chapter master Tyberos' armor also bears markings that indicate he fought alongside the emperor himself.
Sorry for the long ass comment I just love the sharky bois 😅
I've wanted to build a heresy era army to use in 40k for the longest time now, like a legion force that was lost in the warp maybe around the start of the heresy and only emeregd now into a galaxy they don't recognise
I'm doing exactly that. An entire Mk3 marine armour Iron Warriors force
That's such a cooooool idea. What chapter? I had a similar idea for a Salamander's list.
Very cool idea!
My small Alpha Legion army is literally mix of Mark IV and Primaris (for Havocs).
Been working on that for a while. Pre-Heresy era Salamanders and Iron Warriors joint force that got bounced to a few hundred years before Guillimans "resurrection" and now working with the Ordo Chronos to get back in time to warn everyone before the Heresy can happen.
The praetor with the axe can easily be converted into a lord of contagion.
I mean.... sorta. They both have a big axe and similar pose, but the lord of contagion is in terminator armor and the praetor isn't.
@@RobotronicKillforce relic armor 2+ save use as counts as,no biggie.
Baffling and hilarious to imagine the Spartan being fragile in 40k. In 30k its basically a brick that refuses to die.
My money is on the chaos book being heavy on infantry so there's 40 marines and the terminators will probably be useful if you magnetised. Being HH armour means you can play them as chaos or loyalists which is my jam to save on hobby dollars
Just the beaks alone are invaluable to Raven Guard collectors.
Edit: For traitors, they'll work great for Iron Warriors, Alpha Legion, and Fallen, legions that aren't as into crazy mutations as Black Legion or Word Bearers. Night Lords might work but Night Lords basically always need some kit bashing anyways.
Edit edit: Mk V Space Wolf Blood Claws and Grey Hunters might look cool, too. Put some viking heads on instead of the beaks and give the beaks to your RG buddy. MK V has that more heavy metal appearance that looks more grunge than the standard Blood Claws armor
I see this entire box as perfect alpha legion starter set.
Ultra marines, imperial fists, white scars, dark angels, and blood angels will also like this box. Blood angels will take some kit bashing but it can work.
Iron hands, salamanders, and some others it doesn’t really fit. The heavier iron armor is just a better match for how they wage war.
@@shadowman484 That's what I've got my eyes on it for. Though, I'm worried that the new Chaos Space Marine models look like they may be bigger. In which case, using these models would be considered an advantage and my local league wouldn't allow it. So, I'm still on the fence.
I'm using this box as an excuse to do night lords, i would do the flawless host but idk if 30k players would appreciate playing against a 40k paintjob. Night lords are pretty ass in 40k tbh it would be wasteful to lock the whole army to one game
@@shadowman484 I hope! My husband and I want to start HH. He wants to do Iron Warriors, and I hope to do Alpha Legion. I love their armor colors!
I definitely plan on getting some of the more special units and adding to my chaos army. Heresy era vehicles make more sense than the modern stuff for chaos in my opinions since it's what they would have had when they betrayed the imperium. I'm taking the spartan, contemptor and the praetor and converting them to thousand sons, might sell the rest
Yeah I’m getting a spartan for my black legion list. I used a sons of Horus contemptor with forgefiend autocannons for the kheres assault cannons too
@@mikediamond1234 I'm probably gonna bite the bullet and pick up the forge world TS contemptor also , that way I can use the weapons in this box to build 2 contemptors for my list. Probably with magnetized arms to swap out as needed
Well for me i use the terminators, the spartan, one group of space marines and the contemptor for my deathguard. I will mix it with plague units so to show that not everyone is full on nurgle. Some are on the first steps to become plague marines like their comrades.
The rest will probably go to my blood ravens
Note. The contemptor dreadnought, single pose has been removed from the GW site. Even for the custodes. So chances are there will come some custodes uppgrade. Here's hoping it contain the glaive and shield option.
I watch Guerrilla Miniatures video playing the new version of HH & to be perfectly honest, I like it better than 9th edition. Reactions are a far more interesting mechanic than Strategems.
Well this aged well..
definitely need this to sit on top of my unpainted indomitus box
would love to have those Terminators.
and i guess this box is the reason that they have removed the Cataphractii Terminator armor from the website.
The terminators are rumoured to be repackaged into squads of ten, just as MK3 and Mk4 armour marines got repackaged into squads of 20.
@@maxmaassen3913 Ugh. Even more expensive now.
@@maxmaassen3913 well i would rather get that repacked box then this big box, as i would run the Terminators as relic terminators and then with mostly primaris.
and would also rather have the Astraeus then the Spartan
That's awesome it's a 2000 point list. I love the way the old armor looks, once they have the marines up for sell by themselves I'm going to buy a box to make a kill team out of
I made a kill team with 20 Mark 3 marines as a full roster. I run them as deathwatch and it worked well.
Im planning on selling the tactical marines from my box if youd be interested in purchasing some or all of them them once I get it.
I agree as standard CSM they don't fit the look without massive conversions (well apart from the Praetor with the axe) But as Fallen Dark Angels? Some small tweaks and accessories and I'd think they could pull it off.
I'm planning on making a squad as a modern Legion of the Damned squad. I'd just need to model some new pads, flame parts and heads and jobs done.
Cool thing I guess with the HH set is that with each box coming with 20 marines I can build both my ideas without much hassle.
I think Alpha Legion works too. I prefer Alpha to look more loyal than normal for obvious reasons.
@@changer_of_ways_999 Good idea! They really wouldn't need much to pull off the look. Maybe some mixed armour parts to pull off being renegade for so long
The accurate-so-far leaks suggest that Fallen don't even have rules in the 9e CSM codex, so take that as you will.
Generally speaking, Fallen don't have a place on the tabletop, they haven't for a long time. They're just not relevant outside of internal Dark Angel lore, and that won't change until the Lion re-enters the story.
I think I would use the chainsaw bayonets and proxy them as chainswords. At least it opens up some more melee units.
I'm looking at this box to make the core of my Alpha Legion army. So looking less Chaos-y can work for them very well. Adding cultists etc to really show they are chaos. I may also use some stuff in my Blood Angels or Dark Angels armies but I'm not sure.
.
Thought exactly the same, also got some spare bald heads
How can you use the marines in box? Use them as a proxy for normal chaos space marines? Sorry for the dumb question I am new
I'm really tempted to grab this to extend my Night Lords army even farther, I have plenty of spare chaos bits including the helmet from the Sevetar model I have been holding on to which would be great for another chaos lord.
Definitely looking forward to getting hold of some Cataphractii termies and a nice Contemptor!
I'd love to do a late-Heresy Sons of Horus army to mix in with my existing Black Legion with the box. I hope that huge axe can be run as something in the new CSM codex.
I’m going to pick up a box of MkVI and give them the sons of Horus heads and shoulders and use them as a sort of veteran squad in my black legion list
I'd be easy to turn into a Master of Executions.
I play BT and I was looking forward to this as either proxy crusaders, I have a fuck ton of leftover chainswords and assault bolt rifles. Or a strong core of tactical marines.
The terminators and the contemptor would go amazingly my scalpel and I would have a great time with the praetors and the spartan is just neat in all circumstances
I'm looking to start collecting and this seems like a good deal to get started and then add better units later. Only problem is I don't have a miniature to take a picture of for the drawing entry.
Or any other imagery , like a shoe with your name and date
I’ve always been tempted to do a fallen Dark Angels army using the HH minis, so this is tempting as a good way in, the beakies remind me of the original RTB plastic kit but miles better
This is what I intend to do as well!
I am definitely onboard with this. Great box set!
Many people implying that the Raven Guard are the most “beakie” army. Keep in mind that at the end of the crusade/start of the heresy the Legions were huge (up to 200K for some) and spread across the galaxy. There would be a massive variety of armour types and equipment levels across a single legion.
The early tactical marine sets actualy had beakie helmets anongst the helmets it was just a optional helmet back then
also other factions like hawk lords have somtimes been seen in lore woth beakies
@@demonic_myst4503 The original RTB1 boxset had only beakies. Hence the nostalgic love for them.
2nd Edition introduced the mark 7 flatfaced helmet. Which was used again for the Mk 8 armour.
The late 1990s plastic tactical box brought back the beakie helmet.
I used my beakie helmets for my jump pack marines. (circa 2000 when I still played and painted)
@@Mugdorna awe thanks for coreting me and adding more info
I plan to run these as Alpha Legion. They're so mysterious I feel like you can easily justify any mark of armour, Beakies included
I'm planning on Alpha Legion as well. Felt like a good fit for a HH army and a mostly uncorrupted CSM army. And the armor works great too, they've got their own pattern of Mk.VI, the Corvus-Alpha pattern, so beakies are a perfect fit
@@corvus15 awesome! Hydra Dominatus. 🙂
Part of me loves the idea of taking this box and kitbashing it with existing Chaos Space Marines, Mk 3 marines, and Mk 4 marines to make a very large Chaos Space Marine force. Tedious and expensive, sure, but I like the mismatched aesthetic of desperate rebels, taking to piracy and using whatever they can find that still works, in 30K or 40K. Probably not an efficient army, or use of time, but I think it'd be neat.
I'm grabbing the box to make em all my fancy Thousand Sons, with plans to play em in both 40k and HH
Looking forward to this release to add to my bunch of Rogue Trader era Marines and vehicles
My plan is getting a fair portion of the models from the kit and then at some point finally choosing between Alpha Legion and World Eaters and converting them as such, mainly with 40k in mind.
I love the beakie mob for that rogue trader crimson fist vibe
I like the idea, of kitbashing the "beekeys" with Primaris stuff, like how various Marks of Power Armour could be "mix-matched" on other firstborns.
I've wanted to make a 30k based alpha legion army for years but it was always gonna be really expensive because mkIV marines were online exclusive and all the forgeworld. This is a great way for me to finally do it and me and my friends are looking into HH so it will get me started on that front too! So picking this up.
I might buy it for the contemptor and Spartan for my 40k death guard, then sell the rest. The mk6 could add some cool variety if kitbashed with plague marines and csm kits (I’d definitely swap most of the heads), but I already have enough plague marines anyway.
The terminators are just too small to fit in with blightlord terminators unless heavily converted.
In my house we don't really play tournament level - it is fluff all the way (we even occasionally allow extra points to be spent on only the worst units you can manage). So the Spartan is exactly right for my games!
Cant wait for all armour marks to be made in this scale so i can kitbash a 40k firstborn army
Check out Tortuga Bay Miniatures. They make excellent truescale body upgrade kits for the old armor marks.
@@escapo6895 I need to check them out then. :3
I’ve still got the mk3 and 4 squads from the Calth and Prospero box sets. Plus all the bits and spares that came with them. I could probably field about 4K 30k.
Axe-wielding praetor - librarian (potentially in termy armour) with force axe, sorted :D
I think this box would be great for a deathguard/ thousand sons 30k and/or 40k force. Both lean into marines and terminators and both have 40k kits that are based on older armor marks. Get this, a box of faction specific marines and termies, sprinkle those 40k bits in and you're pretty much set to go
if there is enough powerswords in the upgrades sprue that comes with each 10man unit ... you could maybe look at running 3 x 10 marines then run 2 x 5 marines as vanguard vets on foot with power swords/pistols maybe for some chop chop stuff in the elites section
As a 40k army it could work depending on the chapter. Just need to invest in one heavy weapon kits keep the dread and termies cheap and it could be a hard army to shift
I plan on using 1 tactical squad for 40K and the rest for 30K. I already use mostly older armour marks for my 40K army, so more (and taller) beakies will fit in nice and neatly.
For 30K I'm probably going to utilise 1 squad with bolters, and do the other 2 as support squads with the weapon upgrades.
I'm thinking of getting one of these mostly for 40k. I want to make some more grey hunters and blood claws squads. I'm getting back into things after last playing in 4th. The spartan will be my first lord of war.
I could load up two big squads of blood claws in one of these. Hadn't thought of using it for skyclaws. That's a good idea too. Or melee armed termies.
I’ve debating getting this to start my Space Sharks for 40k
Happy to be a patron for this one!
gonna try and kitbash and make a death guard list with these might turn out cool might be a waist but it'll be fun
Hmm seems like the biggest challenge for making it a decent army is the 40 vanilla marines. Maybe buy those heavy weapon kits and create 3 squads of devastator marines (that's 15 dudes). Then another 3x5 dudes as basic troops. Then you got 10 more to do whatever with, maybe more special weapons as sternguard or vanguard vets with CC weapons. Plus with that Spartan Tank, it can transport the little fellas right?
Seems like a fun project and challenge :)
This box is the best SM release in over five years.
I see Codex SM 2.0 include new plastic contemptor as a codex dread. Maybe the plastic weapons could be in the codex, as the other weapons could be relic only.
I see volkites being a thing for captain in relic armor
Will you do tactics videos for the new edition of the Horus Heresy ?
Part of me wants this box just for all of the beakies to mix into other Marines.
Great upgrade for my Iron Warriors army
I’ll might by a box + a box of new chaos marine stuff… and re-invent my shooty Emperor’s Children’s noise Marines army list ( in anticipation to the new codex)…and repaint/ re-touch up my old Emperor’s Children army as a Creations of Bile or Death Guard as the old army looks very mutated and close combat focused…
I'm interested in what the chaos numbers are like
The absence of chainswords probably hurts a bit but you get a chaos lord and master of executions along with a very big run me in iron warriors tank
Just play the chain bayonets as chainswords. You could also try to source 40 chain sword arms and bolt pistols, but that would be more expensive then the whole box I guess.
@@stefan020290 if you arent bothered by removing heraldry, you could get one of 2 boxes of space wolves, as in, iirc they bring nearly 20 or something chainswords + all special melee
@@Happy-zg4zd I play space wolves and no, they don't bring as much chain swords. You get about 8 pairs of pistol/chainswords, two energy swords, two axes(two hand) two thunder hammers and stormshields and 4 plasma pistols. The box doesn't come with enough chainswords to kit it even 10 marines with them.
@@stefan020290 weird, i remember them bringing a fuckton of melee
Thinking of trying to split these between my Word Bearers and Templars and play them in HH and 40K, I know Templars weren't technically in HH but maybe could run them as Brethren?
I was thinking about getting this box and making them iron warriors and making my current 40k death guard army into a chaos undivided army
This is going to be a great deal, perfect for an Alpha Legion 2k point tactical army.
It's great for my night lords, can add all the grisley trophies I want!
Got over 8k points of nurgle/chaos rn, 3.5k of death guard, 2.5k of nurgle daemons and a death guard painted warhound, really considering getting this and having some Heresy Era death guard, feel like it will make a fine addition to my collection
no DG knights?
Well it's the first space marine release since the cashmaris vs Bobby kotick marines starter box.
I'm planning on making an Iron Warriors legion force for Horus Heresy with the box and nothing says I can't just use it for 40k too when my friends are playing that.
I'd convert some of the beakies into devastators if I were to do this, just pick up one of the heavy weapons boxes
Probably gonna use the terminators and maybe the contemptor for my blood angels. Everything else will probably get used for HH proper
Hm could see making them all blood claws for space wolfs if can go melee and pistol. Wanted some big blobs to run across the board.
I have a doorstop I use as a necron monolith. Nothing stopping you from using this box as a Tyrranid army.
Would be cool to compare this box with Betrayal at Calth
It's worth noting that there are no reaper autocannons on the cataphractii terminator sprues.
I want this box, but I didn't even finish the ones I own right now. Maybe will still buy it for better times
love this type of video . thank you.
I'm most certainly getting it lol. A whole fresh start for a space marine army
The old school look is really going to stand out.
@@NightfireGamingYT they're supposed to be an old spooky group of space marines, it's fitting
Already planning on getting it
Beakies for my Raven Guard, both for 40k and HH. Me happy.
I've dumped so much money into HH for my 40k space wolves, due to the beautiful sculpts and fun rules.
I just got mine! 270 with tax and shipping, great deal, very worth it.
Like others have said so many options for building lesser know sub factions, maybe that have been lost or forgotten on distant planets to get your teeth stuck into
push comes to shove you can just say that their time-lost marines stuck in the warp for 10k years from the heresy era, whichever side you run them as
The cataphractii are the coolest terminstors
quick question, will there be smaller versions of the starter set?
Nothing revealed so far.
It seems unlikely. The other large game that they support (Middle-earth) doesn't have it.
I want the box and a heavy bolter missile launcher box to make a 2000 point Excoriators chapter just after their post siege of Terra founding.
Box does give plenty of room to pad that extra 1000 pts you need. Grab one of each of the special weapons and get either two proper tanks or few more contemptors. Grabbing a transport or 2 should be easy.
Not sure how well it would work, but with this having the Heresy era look in 40k it could make a good Fallen army
If I get it,I'll use half of it for my Space Wolves successor to give them range, the other half would be for my Nurgle White Scars successor to bring them to fighting capabilities of my other armies.
Does anyone know how long the box will be available for? I have looked around, and I haven’t seen it
It's been stated to be a regular item on their social media.
So we'll see.
I very much hope so
I can see this work for Alpha Legion but other then them I don't know if Traitor legions had Beakies
Yup, the only thing that box needed to get me interested was 10 of each mark between 2 and 6 instead of the spam of 6 that one got.
Going to make a spiffy non spikey alpha legion force with it for 40k
This one's going right in the bitz box ngl. Might even make a smoked out capture point out of that nice tanky boi, but otherwise: yeah just bitz.
in the image the imperial fists tank looks kinda like a slab of aged cheddar....
I plan on using AoD for both heresy and 40k as Dark Angels (as of now primarily 40k). I already have an okay DA collection. But I don’t want to use primaris stuff. So this is perfect. I’ll be buying Aod with the heavy weapon/special weapon upgrades, as well as the astartes company command to have 3 tactical squads, a squad of devastators, and characters such as champions, ancients, and apothecaries. For 30k I’ll probably buy some more tactical marines to play 30k, since how its set up alot of it isn’t 100% compatible between the two systems.
I'm currently debating 30K Thousand Sons or Night Lords. The latter option is definitely good for 40K too.
If I were to get this I’d make a badab war era Executioners army
This will be fun for people making first born armies, which is always fun.
Im thinking space sharks/carathdon(?) The models are perfect for it
I will probably get this. Not sure which chapter: raven guard, dark angels or night lords
So the marines are upsized, are the terminators biggey sized or are these mini marinez?
PrePrimaris it would have been an incredible bundle for 40k even if you didnt play either characters chaper/Deathwatch. But in the world of the primaries... Its only kinda okay since its a lot of basic units.
A lot of basic units which will be phased out by the end of next edition. Oldmarines will be religated to oldhammer.
Could make a pretty cool legion of the damned army out of this box
It would be interesting to take this list into an actual tournament. Having so many troops would be similar to the Guard list that is doing well, but it would be much tougher to kill and shift. It would be fun if nothing else.
The only reason that guard list is doing well is because of the Hammer rule they got. Their lasguns autowound on hit rolls of six. Which means that buckets of cheap 5pt infantry models can chip away a titan. GW literally made 5pt conscripts Necron Warriors from 7th edition. Which is total BS.
Troop spam of Space Marine's will be more durable, sure. But 9th edition is down to who can kill the other person faster and more efficiently for the points. Space Marine's will be less efficient than spammed conscripts in that regard; point for point.
The other reason that guard list is doing well is wounds count. You get three wounds for every space marine's two. And with Armor of Contempt pushing people into bringing higher AP weapons. Those weapons typically have less shots but more damage per hit. Meaning, each one is likely to kill a multi-wound space marine and ignore most (or all) of its armor. While that same one shot at a conscript will only kill one conscript of one wound. The conscript spam is superior in this context.
@@keldor8302 I think it would mainly do with what SM chapter you used with it.
beakies are pretty cool
I'm wondering if it'll be released when they have shown off the 18 legion heads and shoulders, but not before. If so... 16 weeks from now?
