    One of the little things that made the movie great is that it stayed within the world of the show. Like in the Simpson' movie it was all "Oh no, the EPA put a dome over Springfield and this guy we never met before is trying to kill everyone! Homer, quick ride this motorcycle up this vertical surface before the nuke in your hands goes off!"
    Everything that happened in the Bob's Burgers movie felt natural, like it was all the same stuff they deal with all the time. The most fantastical thing was that someone was actually murdered and when it came time to do the reveal, it was someone we knew, even if it was just a small side character.

      Also, compared to The Simpsons Movie, they went to great lengths to make sure you could easily go right back to the status quo of the series while still giving the characters development. In The Simpsons Movie they make a big deal about deconstructing Homer's destructive and selfish behavior and having him learn for the better.....only to go right back to him being a dumbass in the series lol

      That's an aspect of the movie that I greatly enjoyed. So many films based on animated shows usually see the main characters embarking on a big, grand, road trip adventure of some sort for whatever reason (i.e The Simpsons Movie, pretty much all three Spongebob Movies, all three Rugrats Movies, The Chipmunk Adventure, The Teacher's Pet Movie, Beavis and Butthead Do America, Ed, Edd, and Eddy's Big Picture Show, etc) I love how they kept it within the limits of the Belcher's neighborhood. In fact, a good chunk of the movie takes place at Wonder Wharf, which is just down the street from the family's restaurant. It's impressive with what they did with the story and how they utilized familiar locations to it's advantage. The only other films I know that follow this format are The Hey Arnold Movie, Doug's First Movie, and Recess Schools Out (To an extent since that one does see the main characters traveling long distance for a brief time).

    As someone who never really tuned into the show before seeing the movie, I’m surprised that he was such a minor character that barely appeared in the series, but I also appreciate that the movie didn’t introduce a new character that we’re never gonna see again. At least there’s a possibility of Grover showing up or getting mentioned in the future.

    • @angrynoodletwentyfive6463
      @angrynoodletwentyfive6463 Před rokem

      I found it a bit weird that they suddenly made Calvin be mean to him though. They seemed like they legitimately got along in previous episodes, so calvin all of a sudden being a bully to him at every chance seems to go against their established relationship (however little it was established.) as funny as the scenes of Calvin and Felix tormenting Grover are, I honestly think it would have been much more interesting to have Calvin really care about and trust his cousin and feel super betrayed when it turns out he was behind it all (see he suspects that kind of thing from his brother, he knows his brother is unstable, but once he found out he couldn't trust Grover he would truly have nobody he could fully trust.) a lot of the characters got to explore new emotional depth in the movie and even though he is a side character Mr. Fischoeder is one of the most enigmatic characters in the series and he has a lot of unexplored depth that i think would have been much more interesting to go into than the kids generic desires two of which are carried over from the main series. I get that they are trying to stick to the status quo, but they have been teasing a more vulnerable side to mr. Fischoeder since like season 3 and i was kind of hoping we would see a bit more of that. It also made absolutely no sense why grover separated his witnesses from his victims sure he can be a shortsighted but he doesn't seem like he is that dumb. It would have made the most narrative sense for the belchers to have escaped due to mr. Fischoeder to purposefully goading his cousin into shooting him with the crossbow so that all the people he has been established to care about have a chance to get away since grover only has one bolt. It would have also added more tension to the final scene too, I mean we KNOW for a fact they are not going to kill off the belchers so the whole buried alive scene means very little, but killing of mr. Fischoeder would be possible. so the belchers and felix leaving him bleeding out on the floor while racing to get to a phone to call the police would have felt a lot more tense. I mean I get why they didn't do that, you couldn't really go back to having Calvin be so ambiguously concerned with the belchers after having him risk his own life for theirs so it would mess up the status quo, but I think the character deserves a "J Jonah Jameson won't give up peter parkers Identity." kind of moment at this point one that is surprising given his established character, but also makes sense when you look into what he truly seems to care about.

    This was an incredibly clever move. I'm sure these episodes were produced in tandem with the movie, and they wanted to introduce the character before the film so it seems less like a cheat to invent this new character out of no where to be the movie's villain. Yet, they didn't want you to get too attached to the character by having him do just enough to establish they've had a relative the whole time. Even better, it was a cast semi-regular doing his voice, not a major, noticeable celebrity. Same guy does the voice of Courtney. And even though it is obvious enough he was the villain anyway, they did at least give you enough benefit of the doubt to believe Felix could be capable of such a thing. Remember the Wonder Wharf 2 parter? Even made a call back to his gold digging girlfriend.

      @averyfera7156 Před 2 lety +25

      These were made pretty far in advance to the movie. I'm sure they'd been planning for the movie for a while but I don't think Grover was just introduced to be the villian. Who knows though I could be wrong.

    • @mightyfilm
      @mightyfilm Před 2 lety +25

      @@averyfera7156 While I'm not exactly sure when everything was planned, the movie was announced in 2017, with an initial release date of 2020. Now it was early enough a release in that year that it was probably on some level of completion before it had to be shelved with the lockdown. Now, I don't know how much planning happened before the movie's announcement date, but they would have had some level of concept of introducing a character to be a villain so he doesn't just show up out of nowhere. If anything, any initial script concept could have been a reason to add the character, and even if the movie took a different direction, we'd still have a character who would probably be used in future episodes in a similar role. Still, they didn't forcibly play him up before the movie, and they used a series regular as his voice actor, rather than an out of nowhere noticeable celebrity voice actor. So basically, even if they somehow changed the script during the initial stages, they could continue to use the character on the show without major alterations. Strangely enough, Bill Hader must've been busy with something because they couldn't even get him to reprise his role as Mickey for the movie.

    when it comes to Grover after the movie I'm actually quite conflicted on his character as on the one hand I do genuinely feel quite Bad for him given the Fischoeder Brothers seem to have Treated him like crap his whole life but of course on the other side his actions are genuinely pretty evil.
    like murdering someone just so he could frame his cousin and get control of the finances to build a theme park and also trying to murder a whole innocent family by burying them alive which is probably one of the worst ways you can die so yeah.
    also I love his pink Tracksuit in the movie lol.
