The sprites weren't the only interesting thing in 1.0, slime God literally used king slime ai, without modification, desert scourge didn't even connect properly and had trouble living and dog had purple probes that froze you, so if you got hit by one you'd just get infinite stunned
The old leviathan's lore was different back then. Here it is:
After years of devouring most of the local wildlife, she became bloated, and could no longer move herself at a decent speed. She resorted to forsaking her back half by ramming her side against an underwater cliff; the cliff side cracked and fell, tearing her in half. She survived this and left her home in the abyss, leading her to seek out prey located in shallower waters. She adapted to capturing the local divers in her jaws by forming her lure into an attractive siren of the female persuasion. The divers would become mesmerized by her beauty moments before feeling the harsh crash of the Leviathan's jaws shearing them in half. Now the Leviathan waits patiently for the next easily-infatuated diver to approach or attack its' precious lure.

If I remember correctly it was after the boulder broke half of her the sire was watching and evading any attack from the leviathan and was feeding the leviathan with fishermen but after some time it grew too big or something to feed by themselves and thus got it to also get fishermen or something

The first Providence sprite’s based on the “Volcarona” pokemon. There’s way too many similarities for it to just be a coincidence lol.
6 wings, fluffy body, similar faces and both are literally just fire moths with some affiliation with the sun (providence rests in its core and volcarona replaced it temporarily)

Yup! The original theme for Yharon was Kyurem's boss music from Pokemon Super Mystery dungeon. Infernal Catharsis takes a fair bit of inspiration from that track.

Because before they were pretty much the same thing just slightly different
Seeing those old Levi sprites again makes me REALLY glad for the one we have now, honestly. It looks soooo much nicer. The sprite artists have gotten very good, but I'm glad they still even keep the original design concepts that were first used.

You could argue bumblebirb was TECHNICALLY a resprite, because bumblebirb and the Dragonfolly are extremely similiar and also use the same soundtrack and act as the same character in the plot(maybe)

bro calamity's creator was way more down bad in the earlier sprites
I loved how like most of the bosses started as regular game bosses but they gradually got more warped and demonic as they got consumed by the calamity, that's a cool concept :D

Slime god: Modified slime king
Desert scourge: A worm that used to fall over
Devourer of gods: A worm that is familiar to destroyer but it spawns statis probes and charges at the player as fast as people read the medicine descriptions
And calamitas used to just follow you around the world instead of being a arena fight with phases lol, it wasnt a bullet hell either

Bumblebird was not removed, it got resprited into the dragon folly, they have similar ai, just diferent attack patterns

i didn't even have a script. all of this mumbo jumbo came from the top of my head lol
The old deus sprite was great (not like the current one is bad, but it looks a lot like DoG which makes it less unique but i guess it's more in line with the whole astral stuff). And also i'm still mad that they reworked the fight, the previous one where you had to fight 11 worms was one of the most fun fights in the mod

Man, the sprite work for Calamity sure went a long way. From having a palette of probably 4-5 colours, to the almost Metal Slug-like intricacy.
Is there any chance you could do a compilation video of the old sprites for Thorium, Shadows of Abaddon, and Elements Awoken? I was always fascinated by the design and style changes of all their sprites and it was really sad when wikia removed file/image history, so most of the old sprites for all the above mods are hard to find...

The weird fluffy providence reminds me of vulcarona from pokemon
Every time I think of calamity mod, I always remember the first time I played it back in probably 2016, sometime in its early stages at least when a lot of the mod wasn't super fleshed out yet. Desert scourge used to drop water whenever he took damage, and it was annoying as hell so I built a wall on either side of the desert so it wouldn't scuff the terrain on the other sides with water.

I think all of those changed for the better, but I still love the previous Plaguebringer Goliath sprite. It looks so goofy, and with a bit of polishing it could've looked really good

The first unused Leviathan sprite is 100% based on the Intruder from Feeding Frenzy 2: Shipwreck Showdown, which out of all things I never expected to be referenced in the mod lmao. Just take a look at it on google, you'll see what I mean.
