    This is what a band “ Firing on all cylinders “ sounds like …. And remember that they are all in early to mid ‘20’s here age -wise.!!! Almost 40 years later and still touring and playing with the same attitudes and close to same styles says a lot about how far into the future they all were back when this was recorded. At least Ian & Billy are still together these days and still flying “ The Cult” for us all to see . Enjoy this every time it comes up on my Feed list on CZcams. Thanks.👍

    What a brilliant recording this is the cult I fell in love with when I was a punk/biker in the 80's in Nottingham. Am still a biker & the sound of Astburys voice makes my body tingle along with semi acoustic guitars & open megaphone pipes on a Triumph. Ha ha the 'fire in your eyes, yea yea'. 🔥🏍🇫🇴.

After that, Ceremony could barely get any attention since as grunge arrived "butt-rock" bands that The Cult aligned with where out of favor big time. Peace has them at their most experimental and taking chances. You should listen to it for Groove, Inc. alone.

"Under the Midnight Sun" returns to them, albeit updated, with more mature arrangements, as well as nods to all periods of the group.

      Not really. It's a corporate rock album designed for US corporate rock tastes. It's vapid, shallow and depthless. It's just about leather pants and AC/DC vibes. A complete disaster rebranding for an artist. The Steve Brown versions have the depth, mystery, creativity and intrigue of The Cult. Electric, the more you listen to it, the more of a pandering album it is. Fake as f*ck and stripped everything away from The Cult that made them great for Rubin's vision of the next AC/DC. Then, there's that horrific Steppenwolf cover that still invokes cringes decades on.

    Sometimes you have to forget the Fender vintage hype and look some further. Bass player Jamie did. He is playing a Tokai Hard Puncher. He got it on tour in Japan when Tokai was promoting their guitars... It ended up as his main touring bass during the Love era. "'Cause of the fat tone and the nice, worn feel.", he said in a interview. Nowadays i play Tokai Hard Punchers myself. So thanks Jamie! Great footage, great sound mix. What a groove during 'Love'. Brilliant. A few years ago I asked him by e-mail where the bass went... still at his place after all those years? No. He didn't know.

    8 months to the day after this Electric was released. Band was firing hot, some how within that short time frame the band scrapped a fully recorded record, restructured and reimagined their songs and sound into a more classic rock feel, recorded Electric and turned it into the label for release and promotion. They were working hard.

    • @FrostedSeagull
      @FrostedSeagull Před 2 lety

      They changed the sound as Love Removal Machine here, whilst interesting sounds like a
      B cut off the Sisters of Mercy album, First & Last & Always.
      Whilst the go nowhere jingly-jangly chords off Love Removal Machine, Lil Devil etc, sounded cool and 'goth' at the time, it wouldn't sell in North America.
      Rick Rubin's influence via power chords gave songs of Electric a new lease of life and lifted The Cult from the Goth UK scrap heap.
      To be both realistic and fair the Electric: Manor Sessions is okay, but First and Last and Alwsys is a vastly superior album.
      Let's NOT forget that The Cult wouldv'e been wiped out had Rick Rubin not 'influenced' them.
      WHY - The Jesus and Mary Chain released
      Psychocandy in very late '85 and s
      sold a massive 250,000 copies in the UK alone and well over 500k world wide within six months of its release.
      Psychocandy was and is a bloody masterpiece !

I am honestly more a The Cult fan early albums including LOVE album, but these songs from Electric live in that period has both album influences in them, love it!!! I really adored Ian, but what I think he shouldn't do is shorten the lyrics to much, the way he left out words. • @zoso1980
      @zoso1980 Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@DaveClark-ib6sp Not really, Electric changed them completely into a hackneyed US corporate rock outfit. Peace begun the diversification that would've landed with Sonic Temple. Peace and Love aren't the same vibes. It's an evolution. Rubin desecrated them and they lost most of their magic. That's why 30-some years later there is still controversy about Electric. It wasn't so much an evolution as a, 'hey you guys need to be corporate American rock now, here's a Les Paul go learn to play Born To Be Wild'.' What Electric is, as a corporate rock album isn't the The Cult. It's The Cult impersonating AC/DC. One of Rubin's worst moves that needs to be called out more. Taking a band that wasn't broken and breaking them. Smashing the original chorus of Love Removal Machine was unforgivable. Even Jamie has said something over the years about his preference for the original chorus on LRM.
