On the show today, we have with us Anand Neelakantan. He is an Indian author, columnist, and public speaker. He is someone who's specifically known for his mythological fiction writings. From books like 'Asura: Tale of the Vanquished (2012)' which was based on the Indian epic Ramayana, told from the perspective of Ravana, followed by a series of books based on characters from Mahabharata and Baahubali. Shri Ravan, let's not forget he is till date the most disciplined and biggest devotee of Mahadev. One of the 10 heads was a great scholar, a great king and a great giver. Only his Ego got the best of him through a boon given by Brahma Dev. Shri Ravan has a lot to teach us in the modern age, especially how to get the best of Kalyug along with embracing Brahman teachings. Shri Ravan was not completely evil. Anybody who try to prove Hinduism a religion, are the most idiotic persons in my opinion. The "religions" have such a basic history which Hinduism havenât. Its the traditions that run Hinduism and that's why we call it Dharma ( what we hold).
1.Valmiki ramayan is oldest , you cant deny the fact.
2. This person mentality is clear(love for ravana & hate for hindu gods, when he says:
-Ravana is lynched
-Rama is a failed attempt
-Rishis are full of lust. They are not able to control their mind. But we (today humans) are able to control, so even we are better than rishis mentioned in hindu scriptures.

I love how much he has read and delved into the characters and authors' minds to lay out the meaning of the mythology and what we have to learn from it.
This is the philosophy atheists take so they can slowly tear down the fabric of religiousness. Of course this is also the method that Christian evangelists take as they slowly brainwash Hindus to convert.
Coming from Kerala, he is heavily surrounded by anti Hindu rhetoric. The very fact that he subtly discounts everything as stories, myths, mythology and many such subtle references of non belief shows his heart doesnât hold Hindu Gods in Bhakti. Itâs just a theory to study, for him.
Wonder what curse this man is living out.
I will give one example. Jaya-Vijaya say âplease donât keep us away from you for 100 janmas, it is unbearable even if we are your bhaktas. We would rather be your enemies and become examples of good and evil to the world and come back to you in 3 janmasâ.
But this man described it as âThey donât want to be blind bhaktasâ.
That reveals him to you!!đ
Ya. This is the kind of content you infidels crave for.
His point of view is very logical and acceptable about the mythologies like isnât depend on what we used to hear, see and what some people want us to believe
This is no wonder, we have so many versions..it's like Chinese whisper..like a man plays different roles.. can be a dad, can be husband, can be brother, can be uncle, to some the same man is manager in an organisation...so we can understand why we have so many versions of it

The oldest ramayan written is Valimiki ramayan.
If today suppose I write ramayan with changes , so should future generations also believe my version of ramayan as correct or valmiki ramayan?
@@anubhavgupta7683 Valmiki Ramayan was written by Tulsidas who lived only 300 years ago⊠how does that that mean it is the correct version aka truth that happened three thousand years ago?
I agree with you..!!
@@siddhikakartik5633 please go and first collect the correct information.
Valmiki ramayan name itself means it is written by Valmiki. For your knowledge Valmiki was a sage who was there during the time of rama or you can say treta yuga.
Tulsidas had written Ramcharitramanas.
Even tulsidas is not 300 years old. He was there around 16th century. I am not saying his version as correct.

So if you can think what version should be considered correct.

If you go by astrology, the date of Rama birth was around 10th january 5110BC or you can say 7000 years old.
Or go by Rigveda, then ramayan happened around 8,70, 000 years back( 8,64,000 yrs of dwaparyug+ 5000 years of Kaliyuga

Lanka was elsewhere and the sri lanka which was sinhala according to ancient texts..
Came across such discussion on this same podcast channel....
Well the srilankans consider Ravana to be good Buddhist king.
Sri Lanka is not the Lanka of Ramayana. According to Valmiki Ramayana, Ravana's Lanka was situated down in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The present day distance between India and Sri Lanka does not match with distance mentioned in Valmiki Ramayana. And Ramayana is not 7000 years old, it's a million year old history. It also documented many extinct animals.

It is such a pity that this is one of Ranveer's shortest podcasts. Why is it so short? Was it too controversial for the masses? It seems to have significantly less views than some of the other podcasts. I am going to have to look out for more from this man as I thoroughly enjoy it when someone challenges my conventional ideas and pushes me to revisit what I think I know.
Hats off to your efforts to bring guests from every aspects of life. Learning from their experiences and their stories provides a different prospect towards way of life.
This has to be one of my favourite episodes. So deep. We filter and critically analyse things that we actually donât need to.
Be your authentic self, have faith in your ability to handle consequences.

Thank you so much for this episode . I was kid when I read meghnadh bodh kabya by Michael Madhusudan Dutta the famous Bengali writer in my school text book ,which changes my perspective towards Ravan . Today my interest in him increases A very interesting subject u picked up.
Beautiful episode, this gives an unusual perspective ! Ranveer, you are just fab, you are doing a great job. All your guests are so so amazing
So many stories...!so many variations...!!Hari Ananta Hari Katha Anant....!!!!! Interesting podcast đđ
It was a great podcast, would love to hear again from him
Anand Neelakatan sir, such an amazing speaker and source of knowledge... hats off !!
Really looking foward to unpack his knowledge !! His perspective is insane..
Wow wow wow all wires of the brain were shaken after watching this.....amazing content Ranveer.
These communist of southern india trying to brainwashed people ,south is brainedwashed now they are heading to north. These all are cristains propganda. They are on way to pollute our epics.
Many factual errors in this podcast -
1. Jaya and Vijaya do not get cursed by Duravasa, they are cursed by chatush-kumara
2. They are given the choice of taking birth for 7 lifetimes as friends of Vishnu (not 100 births)
These guys, esp from Kerala, have a distorted views of Hindu beliefs. Ramayana & Mahabharata are part of our history for which researchers have given enough evidences..
@@mahakmadhu7970 true. people from kerala wr jst educated illiterate they believes lord jesus walked on water but blew thr cerebrum on indian history.
EXACtly this man is an idiot i don't why they called him...almost every thing he's said seems like fad and made up stuff..just to subtly spread his propaganda..and to glorify ravan and degrade lord RAM..in every sentence..
Actually wanted to comment the same thing.. Moreover, I stopped listening to the podcast after this particular instant when he uttered this.. Can't expect something of this sort from so called 'subject matter expert'
Yes, very true they choose 3 life because they want to come back as soon as possible to there Aradhiya Bhagwan Vishnu and they were happy that Bhagwan will specially come and finish there life to the path of moksha after 3 life span OM NAMO NARAYANAYA NAMAHđ
What a podcast.. Changes your perspective on scriptures. Goes beyond right/wrong.
Totally food for thought đ
In my 30s, I shifted from just being a Hindu to focusing more on humanity. As an artist, I've gained a new way of thinking from this show that helps me tell stories better. I don't believe in God; instead, I see my parents as my guiding forces. They've given me life and shape how I see the world.
So this what it feels like when youâre mind is literally blowing!!
Yes!!
Woah!! Anand Neelakantan sir is here! Congratulations on getting him to the podcast! Am a huge fan of his after reading his book on the Kauravas - Ajaya: The Roll of the Dice.. The way he inverts the entire Mahabharatha on its head and still makes the story make sense..
totally agree..... after reading the book, i have started to question anything and everything about our ancient stories
The oldest ramayan written is Valimiki ramayan.
If today suppose I write ramayan with changes according to my culture or my opinion, so should future generations believe my version of ramayan as authentic or valmiki ramayan as authentic ?

@@anubhavgupta7683 what you believe is for you to believe, what i believe is for me to believe. thats the beauty of the openness of indian culture, it is always up for debate. in ancient times, scholars used to travel from one kingdom to another debating their best scholars and in the process leave some big gems of wisdom among the people listening. all i am saying is that the book by Mr. Anand Neelakanthan gave a different perspective of looking at society for me. and by the way, the book i am referring to is Ajaya, which is based on Mahabharatha, not Ramayana.

- I knew you were talking about mahabharat not ramayana
- yes, that is also true , everyone can believe what they want to.
- I just want to say if you consider ramayan and mahabharat as history, then the valmiki and ved Vyas version respectively I think would be the most authentic source.
I felt one with this podcast since I have grown up with these very discourses thanks to my grandfather in particular. Especially about the versions where Sita kills Ravana as well as Ravana being a true scholar and in many ways being the personification of lust for life at its supreme. @BeerBiceps thank you so much for doing this. Please bring Anand Neelakantan Sir back. This felt too short. We definitely need more of these. đđŒâ€ïž

Really enjoyed listening this podcast makes lots of sense.. all this years I heart never wanted to accept Ravana as evil.. this podcast definitely opened my eyes⊠Thank you
as a sri lankan , im happy to hear that things you try to explore. in sri lanka we have one story about ravana. 1st ravana name is not a one person, its a family name. and seetha his daughter. 1st born twins baybs , seetha and meganada . and more....thank you
Jaya Vijaya are Door keepers and not Body Guards with exceptional devotion to Vishnu. The choice was between seven lives as devotees orThree lives as Enemies . Jaya Vijaya chose 3 lives as enemies as they preferred joining their lord in a shorter time of 3 lives rather than being away for seven lives
I agree ! This is what even I had heard. They didn't want to live away from their god for a longer time, so they chose to live 3 lives as enemies.
The whole episode was about diversity in beliefs!!!
@@syt1175 valmiki ramayan à€à€ž considered as the authentic religious text by Hindus. Other versions can exist but cannot claim it's place. Most of the times it is due to ignorance of the people in faraway places. Some times the ploy is to create alternate versions with the same names but with different values to undermine the original Dharmic content or to create an impression that there is no consistency hence the whole thing is false( hence you believe in false gods) Hindus have tolerated such versions because their Dharma teaches them to do so. Same is true diverse versions of other religious texts.
This is actually awesome, we want to know more from Neelkantha sir
He is an atheist
This was very good, best part was how Anand N is clinical about his learnings in an academic way and not pushing any agenda be it religious or political . Very tough to do these days especially around this topic
Lovely to hear such a fresh perspective on this particular topic. Love the way the thoughts were conveyed. đ
Can we deduce that through Ravana, it is conveyed that excess if everything is bad whereas through Rama, it is conveyed that you cannot control everything. There will always be things beyond your control
I've read his book. Asura - a tale of the vanquished. Amazing book.
Yes. đ
what version of ramayana is it? Would love to read it
@@fokincheezetteokbokki it's a retelling of the ramayana from raavan's perspective. Lots of it is fictionalised, but it is hands down one of the best books I've read. go for it definitely
@@surajsuryanarayanan5609 thanks for letting me know :)
I loved how Anand Sir gave entirely different viewpoint. Hinduism is all about rationality and is subject to change which is what he elaborated. Loved everything about this oneđđ
However many people will criticize him for such upright viewpoints. But I welcome such deep thoughts.
That ring story sounds more like of parallel universe rather than cyclical natures of yuga ..
Its really mind opening episode like i dont knw that there are soo many versions of ramayan nd we celebrate same festival for another reason.. .. btw thanks ranveer sir u r doing great i love your podcasts
Completely different angle to look. Loved the diversity and unity. Expected longer video, please bring him again đ
Not a different angle if you know the source of multiplicity of versions.
EDIT: It's like a mirage.
I liked this podcast, it gave a different perspective. I would love to see more of these type of podcast which are countering our beliefs which we are taught from childhood and giving a logical reasoning to why they are countering our beliefs.
I actually liked his perspective the way he kept it to every character,,,, actually we need more elaboration on this topic.... it's amazing...i humbly request you for more details on this episode and Thanks to Sir Anand Neelakantan đđ
What perspective exactly did you like so much? This dude has half knowledge, illogical representation, and has no knowledge of the stories, uttering nonsense, cooked up stories, glorifying Ravana, his lust,greed,etc.. calling it the natures gift, calling North Indians as lynchers "Ravana lynching" n stuff with a clear mindset of spreading some kind of propaganda, surely a Communist one. I wonder what amazed you so much. đ

U r doing great thing making our youth understand spirituality, culture n our history đ
The sure shot way to know about our own Sanksriti and history is to read the actual texts. I have started reading the original Ramayan Text, Valamiki's Ramayan ( originally in Sanskrit with Hindi translation) and trust me, I'm just half way through the first chapter ( Baalkand) and I've discovered things that I never even heard or saw.
Sanaatan Dharm ka mukhya stambh gyaan hai, jab gyaan rahega tab buddhi badhegi. Jab buddhi badhegi tab man par niyantran aayega. Jab man par niyantran aayega tab aatma ki tripti hogiâ€ïž

@Anand Neelkanthan sir!!! It's an honor to hear you..finally! đ
In college days when I read your book 'Asura' where you touched on this alternative view of Ramayana ( Raavan being Sita's father, Hanuman and Vibhishan being main antagonists and eventually the observer, when he sees what happens to Ayodhya in the end).. I was blown away, there's a perms impression on my head of that book!..
The way you wrote that book, the strong rationale and logic backing it like almost evidences, it opened my mind to multiple interpretations. The proud Hindu that I am, my faith didn't quivered but that was the first time I started accepting our Gods as super humans and not super naturals, incidentally making the concept of 'Avatar' feel so much more possible and logical.
And hearing you in this podcast, same mass load of knowledge and energy with lots of depth and no apparent end base, trying to share the 'right' knowledge through multiple perspectives. You deserve the respect you have earned sir.. in leaps and bounds.. đ
