  • Life at the Pa-Auk Forest Monastery in Mawlamyine, Myanmar. This version was built from the DVD version. All other CZcams versions (that I know of are built from the Vcd low resolution.
I originally made this video for my brother in 2005 from a silent 55 minute video shot by the England group in 2003. If you think this video is long winded for people with long attention spans...uh.. you better look at the original. As I was doing an audio comment, "um this is the clinic." a friend told me to add some background noises. Later came a script with a "narrator's voice." (which some do not like, but it was the best I could do.).

I am glad you like it. I hope that this version can become more popular. It is better quality and made from the dvd. All other copies are from the vcd I distributed in 2006

Thinking of taking a 40 days meditation retreat at Pa-Auk Forest Monastery in Feb. of 2018. I'm visiting mainly to learn Anapanasati Meditation. Any suggestion or advise from fellow theravadian who have already visited this monastery.

Do you mean pyin oo lwin? Maybe later. It will not be like this one. That took a long time to make although software has gotten better since 2005

Send an email to the monastery and ask that exact question to them. There are various things to donate. Also ask what the choices are.

Good except Monk junior or Kids are served the last. It shows different class among foreigners and local. Should treat all equal when distributing food for breakfast and lunch like cafeteria in abroad. Myanmar people did not get special treat or separate food for being foreigner here in USA or other countries. It shows Myanmar people’s mind putting foreigner first class among local. Putting themselves as second class people themselves. I like equality. I prefer to treat foreigners and local monks equally. Or weaker people like kids or junior kids should be treated first not last. No wonder foreigners like to come here. Do you treat differently foreigners from western and eastern as well. I have a Vietnamese nun is practicing there and live it. And now I know more detailed about this monestry. Thanks for sharing. But I understand also life is not fair and discrimination and favoritism are everywhere. Hope it will improve it is sad to see it seems as local monk’s position there treated as second class at their own country and every where being from poor country.

That tradition came from the special food that the foreigners could digest better. They wanted the group to be together when serving so they could shut down the serving station after finished. The video explains that.. I think they still do this today in Mawlamyine, but not in other branches. Pyin Oo Lwin Pa-Auk is strictly by seniority for all nationalities.
