    OMG thank you for this video. I had a try in a beginner class and every figure was so painful. All the other beginners seemed to fly, but I felt like "wtf, why does the skin hurts so much? " So I stopped and didn't come back, but I couldn't forget and want to start a new try. And now I know the pain goes away. I just have to stick to it, thanks to you.

      It's insane isn't it! I looked around and everyone was just blissfully floating 😂. Yes it does get better. It takes about 3 weeks for your body to stop reacting. It's like the pain sensors calm down but you've got to visit those poses a few in that time frame. Everyone of my aerial apparatuses hurt but I just was so in love with the practice I would go back for more. Even with lockdown and having to get back into it after a break... ouch! 😆 All over again!

    Thank you for posting. I have been playing with silks off and on for a while and you are correct. The pressure of the silks can hurt a bit and you do get used to it. I was frightened about embarrassing myself with my poor upper strength so I hung up a nylon strap and just pulled on it a bit and also worked on my planks for 2 or 3 weeks. My upper strength was actually ok. What surprised me was that my core was a bit sore the next day.

      Thank you for sharing! Yes I know it's so surprising it doesn't look like a core workout but it works everything. It is a little intimidating to even try it but I always feel so amazing after. One thing I learned the hard way is to ***NOT EAT SOUP*** before going to a yoga class.
    Another thing that isnt really told about online is an IUD can be painful when leaning over the hammock! I switched out and suddenly there was no issue with me leaning over the hammock anymore.

    What are the differences between hammocks and the aerial silks?

    • @YogawithAliBeale
      @YogawithAliBeale  Před 3 lety +5

      Good question is does get confusing especially cause they usually both use the same kind of fabric. Hammock is with 2 rigging pints like mine in the video to create that horseshoe. Silk is 1 point and has two open ends and a much longer material. So silks is hung in the middle of the fabric and you have lose ends.
      I have done both and silks it literally the hardest thing I have done. Enjoyable but soooooo hard! I also feel sale doing hammock at home and teaching it in videos as with silks I never practice without an instructor present. It's vey possible to get stuck in a wrap or fall in my opinion.

      I'll be publishing a handles workout Friday so you can take a peak at that when it comes out. I'll be adding a trapeze playlist for the channel. I like them both.... I started with the trapeze then got certified with the silk hammock.
      I think of the silk fabric as the option to do more aerial dance/arts or tricks. The trapeze gives me more ability to do toning stuff and hurts slightly less. They both are comparable in the stretching yoga department. It's next level stretching!

    Love this, thank you! I'd torn the ligament of my right ankle twice, last around 12 years back (and the first time 5 years before that). Plus I'm flat-footed. Standing on the 'foot lock' on the silk really hurt my right foot (today was my first silks class). Please suggest any conditioning and/or strengthening exercises for this? 🙏💚

    • @YogawithAliBeale
      @YogawithAliBeale  Před 2 lety +1

      OMG the first time a got into a foot lock I felt like there was no way that safe. The pain was so intense. FOR ME the foot lock pain subsided to mild/tolerable after the 3rd week. So hopefully for you it will be the same for you even if with the old injury. Pay attention on ankle strength does the injured one feel like it needs to be strengthened?
      For conditioning... do you have a hammock at home or just at a studio? Some of the things you can do a home which will be essential is train lower abdominals. I've got one video on it and made it to help me get into my aerial invert.

    Thank you so much for this! Now I know more vocabulary and more about both silks/yoga trapeze. I have the yoga body trapeze and would like to know if it’s even possible to wind up/down in it? Or should I buy a silk for that?

    • @YogawithAliBeale
      @YogawithAliBeale  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Maya good question. Ya know since I have both I haven't tried a windup in the trapeze. I have seen a single one done but I'd expect some serious pinch. So I don't think you could get any serious winding or drops. Also depends on your set up too, I can't even really get more than one in my hammock from my height and ceiling.
      Try the single and see if it's tolerable. I do enjoy both for different reasons so just think about where you want to take your aerial journey. I had to try it all and find my favorites!

      That sounds like would be a good spot for you. I did have a contractor here. It's reinforced up there as well so it's not being supported fully by the trusses. I would much rather use my rig but it's a bit of a handful to get up and down and I use the room daily for zoom yoga or pole. I say next house I know my requirements and higher ceilings is on the list! I hope to get some outdoor videos once it's warm again.

For example a rig or have someone help you hang is safely through the ceiling (speak with a contractor/engineer). I got a entry level rig on amazon I use outside or indoors just on a lower height. For your fabric you can get your kit from uplift active and pick out a beautiful silk pattern. It should come with all the other essential items you need. I'll put all the links below. Depending on the ceiling height you will pick from 4 - 5 meters. That's like 13-16 feet and they are also 9 feet wide! I'm glad you you have a local class there are far and few between here. Enjoy the journey it's slightly addicting!!! 🤗🥰 Let me know if you are struggling with anything.

But when it was originally hung I wasn't home and the person just guessed without asking 🤪 I was taught to go around the with of your shoulders. But I think going for 16 - 24 inches is a good reference. No more than that. The joists in the ceiling are like 18 inches so if it's in a ceiling that's a good estimate.

      Hi Andrea you should be okay with the 4 meters.4.4 yards size (13 feet). Your kit should come with a set of daisy chains and you can move it up and down easily. Silk burn ouch! I've done it a few times but I get it more when I do silks with the two open ends not so much the hammock. One think you can try is that firm grip I mentioned this will make you tacky. It was essential when I was in silks class. I really couldn't even climb without it. I use it on my legs in pole as well. There are other products like chalk but that's my favorite. Also the more you practice the stronger your grip strength and then you will be unstoppable. 🤗

      I like to use Uplift Active cause they usually sell everything in a kit or you can purchase just the fabric. They have fun colors and prints so you can pick one to your personality. I'll attach an affiliate link to check out the different styles and color. Just thinking ahead they might have a sale this weekend cause "black Friday" deals if I remember correctly!

      Well that can be so hard but I'm sure there are things we can do to help. It sounds like you are going to classes and don't have a set up at home. Here are some ideas...
      * Do some regular yoga just gentle stretching at home, my channel has a whole bunch of follow along ones. This might help with the flexibility to get in and out of the hammock. I do just as much aerial and regular yoga BUT I think my mat yoga makes my aerial work much easier.
      * Talk to your teacher about adding a low flow class or YIN style aerial class. You can sample what that looks like on my channel. I'll link one example under for you. Low flows can be soooooo deep I love them!
      * If you don't have a set up a home there might be an affordable option where you can hang something in a doorway and get some practice at home. A rig or ceiling set up can be expensive and take up a lot of space.
      Think any of these options might work?

      Try a short stool to get up the first few times to get used to it. And having it at the right height.

      I am a big gal, and I took my first aerial class this week. It was HARD but so fun. If I can, I bet you can!

    I could never do this. I have so much myofacial pain all over my body that pressure, let alone intense hanging pressure, is excruciating. Sure looks fun, though.

      It's totally possible some people just feel it way more than others. Curious how foam rolling feels cause that's got that similar pain. Red heads feel pain more intensely than others and for woman certain times of the month more pain. The human body is fascinating (and frustrating lol). Hopefully you can find something that works for you. I didn't find aerial yoga till after falling in love with my mat practice.
      If you ever have the opportunity to do a low flow or restorative it "might" work for you. It's honestly my favorite but also just different. Much less pinch sometimes none!
