THEATER TALK presents a special program devoted to the great playwright, Eugene O'Neill. In a rare televsion appearance, historians Arthur and Barbara Gelb discuss the life and work of O'Neill, and his definitive works: THE ICEMAN COMETH, LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT and A MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN, which set a new standard for dramatic literature in the twentieth century and forced the American theater to "grow up."
In 1962, Arthur Gelb (former Managing Editor of The New York Times), and his wife, writer Barbara Gelb, wrote a landmark biography of O'Neill that was hailed as the definitive depiction and evaluation of the legendary genius. In this interview, they explain why they completely rewrote this work for a new three volume edition.
