Wonderful video , it’s always a pleasure to see this beautiful and ancient St. Leonard’s Church Middleton . However the church is very ancient indeed whilst the majority of this fine structure dates form 1412 & 1524 and of course it’s usual bell tower of 1600 added on top of its medieval tower to house its new bells its story and fabric of Saxon origin originally dedicated to St. Cuthbert’ who’s remains were carried to Middleton around 880 to escape desecration by invading Viking hordes in the north east , before finally returning to Durham where they are said to have been cause for the foundation of the mighty Durham Cathedral. Middleton and Durham would continue to have links not only with St. Cuthbert but Langley who became twice Bishop of Durham , Lord Chancellor of England and is responsible for much of what you see of St. Leonard’s church today . The church was re dedicated to St. Leonard after the conquest of 1066 . A very historic part of the north west and thanks again for sharing this post 👍
