This is why election is very important. Many people has no idea what their votes make the direction of their lives. I get very angry when I meet people who don't think much about the importance of election. How many thousands of the officers and their families have to go through this before people of New York will wake up to the truth? After so many repeats, nothing changes, that is on the voters shoulder not just on politicians.

The city council really had nothing to do with it. He was released by a judge and the judge did it because he had to follow the STATE law as written and passed by the state legislature and signed into law by the governor. The city can't make it's own laws if they conflict with state law.

@@jeannien3283 I believe I already answered that question. It was the New York State Legislature who passed the 'no bail' law and the governor who signed it into law (that was Cuomo and not the current governor).
If you know anything at all about how the 'criminal justice system' in the United States works (geez don't they teach this in school anymore) you would know that we, the people. have all the power through our elected representatives. The criminal justice system cannot just do whatever it wants. It MUST follow the U.S. Constitution, the constitution of the respective state in which the incident occurs and the laws as passed by the respective ELECTED state legislatures.

But the law that let the guy out was a STATE law passed by the New York State Legislature and signed by the governor. The mayor really had no say in it. If state law did away with bail and it says a judge has to let him out, there is nothing the mayor or any OTHER mayor in any city or town in New York can do about it!
