  • This is a companion tutorial to the Aries Crossbody PDF sewing pattern.
    The pattern is available for purchase on my website: knottedthreadsco.com/products... or Etsy: www.etsy.com/shop/KnottedThre...
    This is an intermediate sewing pattern requiring basic sewing skills and some experience sewing bags. It is domestic friendly for most machines!
    I am sewing some parts on a Juki 1341 industrial cylinder arm, but most of the bag on my domestic Juki HZL-DX7. I'm using Tex45 thread in my industrial and Mara 70 in my domestic.

    I just had to jump on to talk about this pattern real quick. I discovered it on the Oklaroots channel and I can’t tell you how much I love this bag! I’ve made a bunch for myself, friends, and family. Out of all the different patterns of bags I’ve made-this is my all time favorite. • @knottedthreadsco
      @knottedthreadsco  Před rokem +1

      I hesitate to answer with confidence because I haven't personally sewn with that material myself. But I think most materials are doable with this pattern! If you cannot fuse interfacing to that material, I suggest investing in some peel & stick interfacing so you still have that support and don't have any slouching occur.
      Quite a few have made it with faux suede and it looks/seems to feel luxurious, so as long as it isn't too thick I say go for it!! And then please be sure to share it so I can see 😍

Small thing that bothered me, you keep saying ‘either side,’ which technically means, one side. Amen for the visuals, because if it was a written pattern only, that would be confusing LOL. I don't recite the written pattern while filming the video - I simply explain it while doing it, which is why the rambles and rants happen, ha. So the explanations in the pattern are better. Thankfully my patterns also have tons of photo visuals to help provide further context, but I will try to use both/each/one side in place of either to help clarify. Sorry about that!

    I love this bag and the tutorial looks fantastic. Are you able to sew the whole thing on a domestic machine? I’ve got a Juki DX7 (which I think you have as well?), and I know it’s capable of more than most domestic machines, but do you think it would cope with this pattern whilst still using cork/vinyl in the same places you’ve demonstrated? Thanks!

    • @knottedthreadsco
      @knottedthreadsco  Před rokem +1

      Thank you!
      Absolutely! I've sewn up a full vinyl on my DX7 and it was a thick one. 🥰 It's designed to be domestic friendly and I haven't had anyone complain to me that their domestic can't handle it. But I always add the disclaimer that of course some materials will give your domestic a hard time. For example: Silieather bulks up super quick and is stretchy, so not a good choice for a domestic.
      But otherwise I take great care to avoid sewing bulk wherever possible, plus a couple tricks I came up with for this pattern to push it to be even more domestic friendly. :)
      The only additional thing I highly suggest is a zipper foot (and/or narrow foot) and a stapler as I don't think you'll have the best results you could without those.
      Hope that helps!

      It's the D Ring Connectors and the Gusset Flap. It would be the pieces that require edge painting. Woven used in those places would stretch and wear over time, potentially causing it to lose functionality or durability when used for the purpose I've intended in the pattern.
      If you want to use woven for the Exterior Zipper Tabs, just double the length and create a bias fold and sew it on as called for after that.
