We got our shih tzu one year ago and I can honestly say it was the best decision we ever made. We love her beyond words and our family could never be the same without her. No con could ever beat the love and laughs she gives to all of us!❤️

Paige doesn't shed, and although a stubborn Diva, she's good when we do our daily walks, we don't have to leash her, she stops when cars are coming even before we told her to wait. People in our neighborhood thinks she's the best,.

My Shih Tzu doesn't shed at all. He cuddles with me when I am ill. He also lets me know when it's time for my medication if I am asleep or if I am busy and forget. He also loves cats. I plan on getting a second dog and without a doubt will be another Shih Tzu.
My shi tzu is prone to ear infections. Can be stubborn especially when trying to get meds into him and if he doesnt feel like eating or playing he wont. That said he is very aware of peoples emotional states and is extremely emphatic. He also loves cuddles, kisses and playing tuggy and chuck. Not keen on long walks but thinks every dog and human is his friend. Doesnt like to be ignored and will let you know in no uncertain terms. I love him so much in fact we all do. Hes a little softy bundle of love wrapped in a puppy cut even though hes nearly 15.
Our Shihtzu would have Zoomies all the time. He's super active and sweet at the same time. Would run up the stairs to greet everyone and go down and go back up again 😅😅

I have 2. They are sweet and wonderful companions. No shedding but they do need to see the groomer every six weeks. They potty outside but hate to go out in the rain! My girl will use the potty pads inside, my boy always goes outside! I just love this breed.
The video says that "their fur can go everywhere", that's absolutely inaccurate: Shit-zus are known for not shedding and also for being hypo-allergenic. Every one having a Shitzu knows that.
@@cutemochi145 My Rocky is 16 yo. If bathed every 1 - 2 weeks no problem. If he goes more than that, he does have an unpleasant odor. It's not the usual smelly dog odor. It's different & I would describe it as a very sharp smell. His mom was pure & his appearance is 100% shihtzu. His odor may come from his dad, I just don't know. He developed cataracts in both eyes at 14 years and from what I have read this is not uncommon. I have also had to keep the hair on & around his ears trimmed to prevent yeast infections in his ears. As long as I trim once a week, he gets enough air flow to avoid this. And of course pure cotton in his ears before bathing. He has always been such a loving dog that I don't mind doing whatever it takes to give him the best life possible. I don't think one could find a better companion.
I honestly think the pro of not needing to play very much can be true for some dogs. The shih tzu my family has LOVES to play and run around in our yard, she loves it when we chase her or when we run from her and throw balls or squeak the squeaky toy. So i think it can very (how active you dog is). Now this could be normal for them but i just wanted to put this out there i guess.
They become part of the family, I can’t explain it, but there’s always that one it latches on too and for mine it’s my 5 yr old daughter, she follows her every where
I own 4 shih tzus and I’m pretty certain that I’d own only shih tzus forever. They are the best toy dogs ever. If you have older parents that need a dog, get them a pure breed shih tzu.

You kind of wonder at a channel called Cocker Spaniel World that does a video on shih tzu's but OK! My sweet girl was almost perfect. She did have separation anxiety but I think that was as a result of being at a breeders for the first 5 years. I will say - ALL dogs want to walk. A balcony may be adequate on a day where you're under-the-weather and can't take your dog for a walk, but it's otherwise lazy. Don't rip your dog off - all dogs need mental stimulation and for canines, there is no stimulation like the walk. The low shedding has nothing to do with their size - it's their type of fur which is more like hair and considered hypollergenic. That's why they need regular grooming. A chihuahua is even smaller and they sure shed!
Shih tzu/chihuahua 2yrs named lil bit Lucy. She found us and needed a good home. She is fragile small like chihuahua. Medium hair length. Playful everyday. She'll choose her own toys and super friendly but nervous with other strangers and pets. Her chi side she'll get protective gets a lil barky and if another pet gets near us she'll eyeball. Lol She's smart she let me know if my other dog needs help or wants something. She gets attached easily and will whine if us or our other dog leaves the house and wonders where we are. She will have her space and take a nap by herself in bedroom or she will be a lil lap dog. She good on routines. Good on puppy pads and outside. Only 2 cons are her shih hair esp around face needs consistent brushing and trim at least once a week or else it does get knots. She is small, curious and will try to get via gate if she sees something that catches her attention. she came into our lives at the right time and love her so much.🥰
P.S: shih tzu is known to be good for pple with alergies and this even I can confirm it. My friends 2 of them as sever alergy on dogs. When it come to visiting me they are happy because they can enjoy it. One of them ended to get a shih tzh

Our family has shihtzu way before and now we have a pair and our male is a 6th generation dog from my grandparents first shihtzu pair and the female is a 4th generation dog from their 2nd shihtzu pair. All I can say is that shihtzu's are really sweet and sometimes picky eater hahahahahah
Mine was a great guard dog. Hardly had to teach her anything. She learned to ring the bell to go outside on the first day. Never went out the front door when it was open. She’d like to lay on top of the furniture like a cat, especially if the window was open and the sun was beaming in. She was playful and always down for a snack. Absolute bed hog, though. She snored a lot too. She use to wake herself up sometimes by farting lol good times. Never barked unless she had a reason which was typically because of a threat. She was stubborn at times but not the way described in the video, more like pure laziness. She was the worst at at playing fetch. She’d go after the ball and then ignore the ball and not come back. Sometimes she just looked at me and didn’t bother with the ball at all. Some years later we ended up with an abused dog that found itself in our backyard tangled in it’s leash. We took him in and he recovered. He took a strong liking to Dolly and they bonded. Dolly was definitely the pack leader. The dog we found ended up belonging to someone who abused him. We kept them and they agreed to it. His real name was Bowie like the music artist. My step father took him as his dog and renamed him Hobo lol. Not sure how it he ended with that name but it’s his. Hobo followed Dolly everywhere. Sometimes we’d find her humping his head. My first experience with her breed was a wild one. Thanks Dolly.
They are fairly common, here in the jungle, (we say forests), of Southeast Asia. Of course a true homebody, their paws never tread beyond the front and back doors. Yellow cobras, recluse spiders, and a host of poisonous plans await. But ours is perfectly happy to stay in with us, a retired couple, and our daughter. No wanderlust, really quiet, unless she wants something, friendly to all our extended family and friends, perfect for us. Not like family and friends who have hunting dog breeds, pains in the asses, with ultimately short lifespans, like 3 years.
I bought my three Shih Tzu’ s and they are passed when turning 14, that I way to you young. I once had a Schnauzer: Poodle mix. The babies didn’t look like either bread. Just one big thing, when you either mix a poodle or just buy a poodle. You will be very happy. She was so intelligent, I had no desire to see my fur baby a normal life. Please careful about the food that you buy for your loved one. I get nothing out of this except the Dr. Marty Report and advice, every thing he said made so much sense. Shih Tzu’ And few others will definitely make the breed will be much healthier . When I used to make my raw meatball mix and they loved it. In wolf packs the leader of the pack got first dibbs. Dr. Marty’s food ha been healing many animals with his recipes. I don’t have a dog right now but I am getting some opposition. The truth is that I do not need to rescue a dog, I need a dog to rescue me.
When our Tzu pees in places he shouldn't, initially I get mad then he does that puppy dog eye and head tilt move and I "forget" why I got mad. Smart little punk, he's turning 10 this year.
My baby has literally all pros, zero cons. Only thing I don't like is she freaks out during thunderstorms, not sure why. That is the only thing close to a "con" that I can think of.
If we leave more than four weeks between visits to the groomer her mood becomes very terse even if her coat hasn't become overlong. Agree with all comments particularly the manipulative behaviour.

Yeah that's too long to leave any dog in our opinion....even a fully trained adult dog. If they have access to a yard etc then that's a different scenario

No, he's friendly with everyone and very passive. If you have a shih tzu you will smile every day. He was stubborn with training it took an intense 2 weeks to get him to shake. If it's his idea he learns fast.

they do demand a lot of your time, meaning they want your attention, playing with them or cuddles. My dog loves his walks but is happy with out as long as you play with his for some mental stimulation. Perhaps get a dog over 3 yrs old if your energy level is really low. Personally I think they are great for people who suffer depression.. they are very in tuned to your feelings. My dog licks my tears away every time i cry. I would have taken my dad's death a lot harder if i did not have my dog, he is very affectionate and loving and funny that I can't help but smile. tjey get their feeling hurt by being ignored for long periods of time or harsh treatment. They are a Velcro dog that will follow you everywhere. If you want a dog who is happy to do his own thing for most of the day and does not demand your time and affection don't get this breed. my dog is fine to be left alone for 4-5 hours. i work from home so I have not left him alone for longer. If u want a companion dog that will adore u get a shih tzu.

Nope No Cons ! My Shih Tzu Cocco is a diabetic medical alert service dog. He doesn't shed his hair. I do brush him every day, he loves getting brushed. He is also Not Stubborn. Never had a problem with him doing his business only outside. But he will go potty on command in the tub if I don't feel well. In fact he has been the easiest n smartest of dogs to train. My uncle was a dog trainer and breeder of specially trained German Shepherds. N my Shih Tzu is much better than all of the dogs I've had in my 55 years of living. My Shih Tzu has saved my life and my cousins life n others since he's been a puppy he's now 13. He will sniff a diabetic out very quickly. He is trained to retrieve or indicates he wants the glucose test meter pouch. I always carry one in my purse or walker n he always can get to one. He will tell total strangers they need to test their blood sugar levels. My Shih Tzu Cocco goes every where with me so no need to worry about separation anxiety with him. But to me the most amazing thing about my dog is he told us what he could do by grabbing my cousins monitor and placing on his chest after he took insulin and didn't eat n went to cut grass, by the time he came in his blood sugars had dropped too low. He started alerting after he lost his eye sight in his left eye after another dog smacked him in the eye. His whole eye came out into my cousins hand, it took 3 surgeries for him to keep his left eye. It was just after he got home from the second surgery that he alerted to my cousin he needed to test ASAP . To me he is just pure love n gentleness .
Mine bit my 3 year old daughter because she was sitting on the chair that he liked to sit on so unfortunately I had to give him away ...I had him when I lived alone but them I met someone and my two girls

I have a feeling this person knows nothing about Shih Tzus. These dogs don't shed at all. If I see a hair, it is from her tail and not often at all.
My family had a total of 4 shih tzus. They all passed on at ages of 16-18 years. Loved all of them. We now have a 5th one.

Have you tried using ear powder to pluck the insides of the ears? It help the ears ‘breathe’ and dirt and debris won’t get collected in the ears.
Sounds like my 13 yo female Shih Tzu. She sleeps a lot.

I know it is a year old but. It could be An allergie. My dog is allergic to beef. When i stopped giving him beef products his infections stopped.

Our family has shihtzu way before and now we have a pair and our male is a 6th generation dog from my grandparents first shihtzu pair and the female is a 4th generation dog from their 2nd shihtzu pair. All I can say is that shihtzu's are really sweet and sometimes picky eater hahahahahah

I have a Malshi, too. I love my other dog to pieces, but my Malshi is the easiest dog ever. I'd get another one in a heartbeat.
Mine was a great guard dog. Hardly had to teach her anything. She learned to ring the bell to go outside on the first day. Never went out the front door when it was open. She’d like to lay on top of the furniture like a cat, especially if the window was open and the sun was beaming in. She was playful and always down for a snack. Absolute bed hog, though. She snored a lot too. She use to wake herself up sometimes by farting lol good times. Never barked unless she had a reason which was typically because of a threat. She was stubborn at times but not the way described in the video, more like pure laziness. She was the worst at at playing fetch. She’d go after the ball and then ignore the ball and not come back. Sometimes she just looked at me and didn’t bother with the ball at all. Some years later we ended up with an abused dog that found itself in our backyard tangled in it’s leash. We took him in and he recovered. He took a strong liking to Dolly and they bonded. Dolly was definitely the pack leader. The dog we found ended up belonging to someone who abused him. We kept them and they agreed to it. His real name was Bowie like the music artist. My step father took him as his dog and renamed him Hobo lol. Not sure how it he ended with that name but it’s his. Hobo followed Dolly everywhere. Sometimes we’d find her humping his head. My first experience with her breed was a wild one. Thanks Dolly.

They are fairly common, here in the jungle, (we say forests), of Southeast Asia. Of course a true homebody, their paws never tread beyond the front and back doors. Yellow cobras, recluse spiders, and a host of poisonous plans await. But ours is perfectly happy to stay in with us, a retired couple, and our daughter. No wanderlust, really quiet, unless she wants something, friendly to all our extended family and friends, perfect for us. Not like family and friends who have hunting dog breeds, pains in the asses, with ultimately short lifespans, like 3 years.

I bought my three Shih Tzu’ s and they are passed when turning 14, that I way to you young. I once had a Schnauzer: Poodle mix.
The babies didn’t look like either bread. Just one big thing, when you either mix a poodle or just buy a poodle. You will be very happy. She was so intelligent, I had no desire to see my fur baby a normal life.

When our Tzu pees in places he shouldn't, initially I get mad then he does that puppy dog eye and head tilt move and I "forget" why I got mad. Smart little punk, he's turning 10 this year.
My baby has literally all pros, zero cons. Only thing I don't like is she freaks out during thunderstorms, not sure why. That is the only thing close to a "con" that I can think of.
If we leave more than four weeks between visits to the groomer her mood becomes very terse even if her coat hasn't become overlong. Agree with all comments particularly the manipulative behaviour.
Really considering getting a shihtzu. They sound perfect for my child and myself but .... We both be out from 7:15am - 3:30pm EST Monday to Friday. Would this be too long to leave them alone?
Yeah that's too long to leave any dog in our opinion....even a fully trained adult dog. If they have access to a yard etc then that's a different scenario

No, he's friendly with everyone and very passive. If you have a shih tzu you will smile every day. He was stubborn with training it took an intense 2 weeks to get him to shake. If it's his idea he learns fast.

they do demand a lot of your time, meaning they want your attention, playing with them or cuddles. My dog loves his walks but is happy with out as long as you play with his for some mental stimulation. Perhaps get a dog over 3 yrs old if your energy level is really low. Personally I think they are great for people who suffer depression.. they are very in tuned to your feelings. My dog licks my tears away every time i cry. I would have taken my dad's death a lot harder if i did not have my dog, he is very affectionate and loving and funny that I can't help but smile. tjey get their feeling hurt by being ignored for long periods of time or harsh treatment. They are a Velcro dog that will follow you everywhere. If you want a dog who is happy to do his own thing for most of the day and does not demand your time and affection don't get this breed. my dog is fine to be left alone for 4-5 hours. i work from home so I have not left him alone for longer. If u want a companion dog that will adore u get a shih tzu.

Mine doesn't. She does her business on a potty pad. She was very easy to train for them and she goes outside on nice days.
Hahahah! I once saw a meme of small dog looking out window at pouring rain and the caption read "I think it will be a $h!t in the house day today." I died laughing. Sometimes they are stubborn about going out during inclement weather. They hate to get their paws wet...divas!

Nope No Cons ! My Shih Tzu Cocco is a diabetic medical alert service dog. He doesn't shed his hair. I do brush him every day, he loves getting brushed. He is also Not Stubborn. Never had a problem with him doing his business only outside. But he will go potty on command in the tub if I don't feel well. In fact he has been the easiest n smartest of dogs to train. My uncle was a dog trainer and breeder of specially trained German Shepherds. N my Shih Tzu is much better than all of the dogs I've had in my 55 years of living. My Shih Tzu has saved my life and my cousins life n others since he's been a puppy he's now 13. He will sniff a diabetic out very quickly. He is trained to retrieve or indicates he wants the glucose test meter pouch. I always carry one in my purse or walker n he always can get to one. He will tell total strangers they need to test their blood sugar levels. My Shih Tzu Cocco goes every where with me so no need to worry about separation anxiety with him. But to me the most amazing thing about my dog is he told us what he could do by grabbing my cousins monitor and placing on his chest after he took insulin and didn't eat n went to cut grass, by the time he came in his blood sugars had dropped too low. He started alerting after he lost his eye sight in his left eye after another dog smacked him in the eye. His whole eye came out into my cousins hand, it took 3 surgeries for him to keep his left eye. It was just after he got home from the second surgery that he alerted to my cousin he needed to test ASAP . To me he is just pure love n gentleness .
