Comments make me smile. Any driver who was driving before the CPC shit came in where the vast majority of drivers still hate and think is a waste of time would have done this back then.
It was perfectly acceptable back in the day to load a curtain sider and just use the curtains to secure the load… in fact, the last big company I worked for in the early 2000s had quite a few trailers without internal straps and each tractor unit was only given 6 straps! I’ve seen thousands of loads like this which have made it to the destination and you could argue now that drivers now drive faster because the load is strapped down!
I’m not saying it’s a bad thing to load and strap correctly but I do think it’s a little hypocritical for drivers who were driving before 2015ish to make out this isn’t acceptable because I’ll guarantee they’ve pulled loads like this before! Including Mr cameraman!
Anyone who says they didn’t has either a very short memory or full of shit.

I agree 100%. In 1980s I drove HGVs in UK and nobody strapped pallet loads, rarely any issues at all. No doubt a good practise to strap but all you guys maybe driving 5 minutes calling the bloke out who possibly did loads like this for decades without strapping. we all love to bag others. I feel sorry that he got caught by someone who knows what about load restraint? Theory only, all out of a book. I live in Aussie now, we are strict on restraint too, I've seen trucks gone over and the shit goes everywhere, straps or no straps. They all got us conditioned to think it's soooo scary to even move an inch without a strap. The world we live in, I guess

You still can have a load on a curtain sided trailer snd not need straps , as long as it’s a full fit , and the trailer meets the ES and has a certificate. If there’s a gap at the back you only need to cross strap the back .

We used to pull tautluner loads of coffee beans, in hessian sacks on 4' pallets and two pallets wide from a Thameside warehouse to the plants at Hayes and Banbury. The loads were so wide that we could only just about fasten the straps. The curtains bulged like a woman forty months pregnant. That was accepted then, even by the police.

DHL Use XL rated curtain-siders which satisfies the requirements for load security IF the load is "positive fit" like the truck shown here. Non-XL curtains however are just for weather proofing so this truck being shown will still need to strap up. Even when double stacking, if the weight of the stack is under 400kg then an XL curtain is still acceptable on its own.
