    been trying to make this decision for a while now. I hope it won't be very risky for me to begin with 50, month-old chicks. Maybe later, after my pilot, I will definitely go for the day-old as they appear reliable. This was a great piece.

    Hi mutwiri.Between pure kienyeji and improved kienyeji,which breed is more disease resistant?I have been thinking of going with pure Kienyeji coz i believe the biggest challenge to poultry farmers is diseases.The other reason why am going for pure kienyeji is that it can incubate as opposed to improved coz i dont have an incubator at the moment.My intention is to increase the flock first b4 i think of making profits(am patient and the longer maturity age for kienyeji doesnt scare me).Am looking at 300 chicken by dec.Kindly advice.

    • @Homerangepoultry

      ngotho kahiga Hi Ngotho. The kari improved kienyeji chicken has the highest disease resistance as compared to the ordinary kienyeji chicken. Production in terms of eggs is also better and they gain market weight faster. I'd advice you go with the kari improved kienyeji chicken. Visit our website for full details www.homerangepoultry.com

    What if you want to start with a layer flock? Is it wise to buy chicken that is almost ready to start laying? Am a little bit confused about the choice between buying day old chicks and almost ready layers. If you can see this comment you can highlight the pro and cons of buying the layer flock.

    • @Homerangepoultry
      @Homerangepoultry  Před rokem

      It is not wise to buy ready to lay chicken because the high cost of buying it is not commensurate to the cost of rearing the chick from day old to maturity. You will incur losses if you start your poultry farming with mature chicken.
      We compare this during our training days. Thank you
