"How are you?"
"New train."
Never change Geoff.
-And here we have the antique series 800 passenger trains of London and North Eastern Railway, which have been famous over the century, for giving a newtrain experience to the passenger.
-Excuseme, what's "newtrain"?
-Newtrain is a term, brought to public in summer of 2019 by an old chap, called Geoff Marshall. Basically it means "excited beyound belief".
-Geoff Marshall, you mean the HSXL lines president?
-Yes, the same fellow, that brought us the famous HMU network.
Have to admit, when you watch someone who is so enthusiastic and passionate it keeps non trainspotters watching!
Great work!
I know what you mean. I'm a non train spotter too, but I love Geoff and Vicki's videos.
Joanne Gray Exactly I am not a train spotter either, but Geoff and Vicky’s video are just great!
I'm a bit like Pete Waterman, not the famous music producer bit, being a fan of railways not just locomotives, trains and multiple units...
70% of the parts were from the UK. Made in Uk factories with both UK and Japan tech and designing. Great team work between the two nations.
It’s still just a downgraded Shinkansen though. But compared to the GWRs 800/1 these are a lot better in build quality and comfort so that’s nice
all trains now have to be measured but the #FistOfQuality and the #ElbowsOfSleep
Don't forget legnth in vickyfeet as we need to know if it'll fit the platforms.
The fact Geoff keeps getting a shot of the 43 at King's Cross to match how an old train and new train looks next to each other
The fist of quality! The Geoff Marshall elbow test!
What an exciting train!
10:00 you said he had been on the train for 10 mins exactly 10 mins into the video...
Good to know I'm not the only one who does the elbow test 🙂
I don't think I've seen so many close-up shots of one person's elbow before...
Vicki and Geoff, you're amazing representatives for the railways. Your enthusiasm is infectious!!!
Congratulations #Azuma! So excited for your gorgeous train.... Wish we could have something so wonderful in the USA. Loved this video, felt like I was personally there, Thanks for sharing.
Roger is like that priest from 'Father Ted' who keeps breaking furniture by punching it.
Thank you. I was trying hard to remember why he seemed so familiar.
How much did you pay for the train, Ted? Ah Jaysus, I could have got you a better one for half that!
I swear you 2 can do nothing wrong, brilliant totally brilliant once again, I think you're wonderful. Vicki that seemed like quite a large frog in your throat at the end I hope it wasn't too sore. Of course down in our neck of the woods on GWR, we've been experiencing the 800's with the ones they are using for the Penzance to Paddington runs. But they look terrific and I hope LNER have the same success with them as we are down here in GWR land.
The new trains look great. Loved the video, but your videos are always excellent.
thanks Jill, we work so hard to make them fun, entertaining and yet also informative. appreciate the comment!
Shame GWR only relies on having a trolley service. But well done LNER, a buffet counter! Just like GWR's old HST's! Beautiful!
Geoff serves two teas on 5.22 😂
@Peter Mitchell I've heard that there are a lot of both internal and external discussions ongoing to bring the buffet carriages back into service on GWR on the new Intercity Express Trains. There is also a public petition at you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/great-western-railway-bring-back-the-buffet which may help with this decision...?
The buffet carriages do exist and are sitting in a siding somewhere apparently....
@@davidmilne5122 i go on the new gwr 800s quite a lot (live in Bath) and when he said they had a buffet car my jaw sort of dropped because recognising this train and then having the luxury of a buffet car in the middle is sort of perfect. it cant get better. it shows too that it takes so little space and we all know how annoying it is to get stuck behind the trolley. not only that but most of the time there is only a trolley on one half and ive been on one where they claimed that and still didnt serve even though i got on at paddington. (sorry about that rant)
just bring back the buffet. its better in every way
Baggage car with an actual decent number of bike and oversized luggage spaces would be more useful.
@@cjeam9199 they have load of space for bikes and luggage. the old ones did have the guards car but i think they have reasonable space for bikes and luggage
Buses in Bath & Bristol They have a decent amount of luggage space for normal luggage yes. But there are 4 bike spaces on the 10 & 9 car layouts, which is poor.
When they sprayed the steam/smoke across in front of the Azuma, I hope there was nobody sat in the HST in the adjoining platform, they would have shat themselves!
Great video as usual 👍
Looking forward to travelling on the Azuma in the near future
Honestly Azuma is the best train Ive ever been on currently and it reeks of huge invesement!! All of TOCS will have to up their game and catch up with LNER!! Great passion guys!!
I'm impressed. You managed to upload the day after.
Great video as always btw. Feels weird being from Chicago and having seen all your videos taking place in the UK.
I am 100% with Geoff on the elbow test. So disappointing when you're on a train where your elbow slides down.
I know, sometimes I have to swivel and pack my coat up behind my head so I get a cushion against the window.
I sincerely think this was your best video to date! Keep up the good work!
鉄道発祥の国に日本の車両が走るとは...これほどの誉はあるまい。更に日本式の名称「あずま」を受け入れてくれたイギリスの方々に感謝します。
We destroy our own railway engineering capacity then import what we once made.
There is no honour in that.

アズマ(Azuma) is very cool and beautiful !
congratulations from kyoto !
東 あずま アズマ Azuma 🤩
@@envirommc7059 this is true, they are also largely assembled in the UK like the HST. We sold our ability to design trains in the 1980s so our friends in the far east come to fill the gap
Kinda sad how the HST sits sadly whilst it's replacement meets up with it 😔. Good video Geoff
@@Nimmo1492 im going on the last gwr one tomorrow. cant have been on one for nearly 2 years because of the new trains. going to bring back memories
Chris Bell Only partially. The HSTs that the IC225s replaced were obviously moved to other operators.
Oscair Brady it's funny, but when I moved to the UK in 87, I used to sit on the IC225, thinking that they were like the most modern thing ever. Not realising that they had been in service since the 70s.
Loved the video...your videos are always wonderful and well done!
At last, looks cool and cheerfull enjoy them everyone and well presented All the stations...again!
About time these were introduced
Agree with Vicky on the interiors - makes a big difference to the overall experience
From Japan
Congratulations
I wish British people would like that Hitachi train.
So far so good?
The interior looks better than ours in Japan
Nah they replaced the god damn intercity 125’s and most trainspotters hate this train because the intercity had been in service since 1976 because Britain wanted a new train different to a diesel but still one.
Well, the operating companies definitely love them; LNER, GWR and TransPennine have all ordered variants. I doubt I'll ever ride on one, I'll be stuck with CAF's trains, but I'm delighted that we're finally getting modern rolling stock.
I_like Jintys10 They are definitely the most insufferable part of an otherwise fairly inclusive community. I like the HST too but Jesus Christ , they need to grow up and stop snivelling .
What an excellent video. Couldn't agree more about the buffet car, much better than waiting in your seat for the trolley to get to you. A really informative bit of reporting, looking forwards to trying an Azuma myself.
Yes! The interior of a train makes all the difference for passengers! It is the little things they notice. Also, so great to see LNER kept the buffet car, sure wish GWR kept theirs too :( Terrific video!!
Exciting! Trains are the best!
Great video, Geoff & Vicki. Two more enthusiastic, geeky 'train people' have yet to be created!
These guys are so great.
Love their videos.
The train is so colourful and a joy to see.
Unlike GWR they have kept the buffet service and there hasn't been any teething problems on the first day of service unlike the GWR 800 that leaked in one carriage because the aircon system broke.
Looking forward to them making it as far as Durham and Newcastle.
Where was the toilet review? I am disappoint.
There was no toilet review as there is no toilet on the Azuma. It's so fast, engineers felt you don't need one onboard!
@@grbadalamenti Don't believe you, but nothing would surprise me in 2019!!! 😁😁😜🤡🥺😊🙃😛☹🤪
Excellent Video as always Geoff and Vicki.
Sincerely though, I would like to wish LNER all the very very best with the new Azuma trains when they come on line and I hope, and trust, that they will provide reliable service for you. Yes, I am a fan of the HST, and I hope that this iconic train will get the send off it deserves.
座席が2×2シートで通路が狭く感じるって事は 座席の幅がゆったりしているって事だ。羨ましい!
"The fist of quality" i'm in stitches !! :')
Delightful to see you both again!
From Japan
Japanese trains are running in UK. I am very happy. Please be loved by AZUMA of a pretty face, safety first, everyone properly.
ACE Video and , The legend Pete Waterman !!
The video, the content, the humour, the music ............ but above all, the presenters.......... pure quality. The trains pretty good too! 👏👏👍😀
That quick shot from the cab the best seat in the house. Cheers Geoff and Vicky for a now historic vlog
Its about bloody time we get them
The Azuma looks great!
And you make a good job in the Buffetcar😅
It's a smart looking beast, isn't it. Another fabulous video.
Yesssss I have been waiting for so long
The elbow problem is something I agree on. The buses in Leeds have seen a big overhaul and some of them don't have good elbow room and it's really uncomfortable
Richard law. The new iconic train upholding the L.N.E.R. reputation. Thank you Hitachi and a special thanks to the staff for making it a rememberable day.
I want to remodel my kitchen to look like this one! 😁 This a beautiful train. Love the cockpit of the engine.🚅🚄
They'll get to Berwick by Christmas. Not sure which Christmas but... :-))
you are so fortunate to have trains that you can actually ride. All we have here are idiots in cars and grid lock. Victorville Ca. off the 15 Freeway 100 or so miles from Los Angeles. Once flew from Hawaii to L.A. did the trip in 4.5 hours. It took 4 hours by car to travel from LAX to Victorville, distance a little over 100 miles. Just really dig All The Stations, may you never reach the last one....end of the line.
You should ride Amtrak! The Southwest Chief stops in Victorville on its way between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, Denver, Kansas City, and Chicago
You two are brilliant! Love to you both.
Very nice video ,cant wait to get the Azuma trains in the North East !
Congratulations! We are looking forward to further for the development of UK.
Greeting from 広島 (Hiroshima).
HST and 91s: We're In the Endgame Now
Brilliantly presented folks and the 800s look great.I helped build the 125s in Crewe Works in 1975,so to see these trusty Paxman workhorses being wound down is very sad, 😞 furthermore, they were BRITISH built unlike these replacements. Mrs Thatcher lives on !
Great presentation again and no disrespect to you both,oh just one thing,we say “Coach” in the trade, not “carriage”. Sorry to be pedantic guys but if we stop using it, we lose it don’t we ?
Look forward to future presentations 😉
i love it you 2 did a great blog keep going
The elbow test is a long-distance train essential!
Also, do we know what the timetable for the new trains is going to be?
Never clicked on a notification so fast before!
The Azuma is BEAUTIFUL!
For the first few seconds of the video I thought it was just Vicki presenting , but that wouldn't happen! 😂. Great video geoff and Vicki!
Vikki cracked me up throughout this Zideo ( giggles like a fool as he makes the z swoosh sound)
What is about these videos?!? I simply don’t understand how I’d explain to anyone how compelling they are. Great job, great videos. Thank you.
Great video, lot of fun!
Did you get to meet "The man in seat 61" I saw on twitter he also did that journey. He was in Coach K Seat 61 of course.
I have the same test with my elbow in the trams in Sofia, Bulgaria on my daily commute to school :)
I just adore how they’re both so nerdy about things that are diametrically opposite and yet it works so well.
Geoff, my sentiments exactly about the buffet. I have been known to let the trolley pass (on a trolley only service) and then walk down the train to the trolley to get my cup of tea. Poor substitute for a buffet but going to fetch the tea is all part of the travel experience. Love it. Waiting to see how new G Anglia trains turn out!
I love that the guy from LNER said there will be a step change in the timetable that they’ll be delivering incrementally over the next few years... 😂
Alastair Harding Yes funny that! It seem as if the government does not want a repeat of may last year timetable mess up! 😂😂
Major timetable changes must be a headache for the timetablers, as GTR found out, I wonder do they still use a time/ distance graph to do it manually or have computers taken over? Which might explain last years cock ups, at least with a graph a glance will tell one there is two trains on the same track section at the same time, rather than wait for trains backing up on reds. At least a human can allow variable variables, a computer only follows a programme.
Oh man! I never realised how much I've missed the music...
Yes Geoff , tips on making tea , teabag in cup , poor hot water into cup , lovely !
I’m on of one of these right now. Next stop Darlington. I got on at Kings Cross. Getting of at Newcastle. I’m glad they have free Wi Fi!
3:23 is that Simon Calder?, travel expert, could’ve made a good interview!
Great vid and was that Simon Calder at 3.23 in the vid. That would've been great to interview him.
Definitely agree on the elbow test! Also on the furnishings. The current awful Greater Anglia trains on my route fail on both counts so no wonder they aren't relaxing! Looking forward to new trains on our route soon too.
The South West Trains seats in standard class was quite bright and uplifting because like to Azuma in Standard class, the SWT seats were red
WTF Pete Waterman - a hero on many levels - thanks Geoff for grabbing him for mins - not always my style music but we should be thankful where he invests some of his money into future skills and the railway of tomorrow.
These Japanese trains are wonderful.
Not really Japanese, but they have a lot of Japanese technology, majority of the steel on this train is British.
Brilliant video , that Zorro thing needs to be turned into a gif at once 😂👌👍
Hi! Great scene, video and report! New subscriber. Greetings from Italy. Stefano.
Regarding the "elbow space": The best can be found on the German ICE trains (you can place a cup of coffee on them), while the worst are in my opinion on the Voyagers. The windows are so close to the seat you feel claustrophobic.
I take it you haven't been on a shinkansen then. Those things are actually wide gauge bodies!
Dear All The Stations
Currently, in Japan, "AZUMA" generally is "east" or "eastern region",
but, the original word "吾嬬(azuma)" means "My wife".
Good-luck 👍 GOD bless everyone of UK. from Japan.
Because it is written in the 7th volume of 日本書紀(NIHON-SHOKI) as "吾嬬者耶(AZUMAHAYA)".
Its meaning is "Alas.... my wife." (≒ I miss you)
※日本書紀(NIHON-SHOKI) is the Japan's oldest history book of the dynasty officially compiled by the nation.
Classic Vicky & Geoff 👍✅👌 Geoff’s face serving that cup of tea...
It looks very nice Geoff & Vicky...!!! 🚄😀🔝👍
Great to see BTP. Can you do a video about how they police the rail network?
This is a lot of excitement for a class 800 - I can see two or three of them down at Temple Meads any time. Are the seats more comfortable than on the GWR ones?
Got one of these today from Kings Cross to Newcastle.
Nice train. I have already driven it myself as a traindriver in TS2019, some time ago. On the London Kings Cross to Peterbourough route. And I think I will ride it in real some time in the near future. As a passenger...
What was in your tote bag Geoff?!
(I actually know, I have one too)
Another great video, I wish we had the same type of service in the States. If I were Sec. of Transportation, we would ! ! !
So good to know it has a buffet car. Getting up and walking for a drink is one of those little pleasures.
I'm excited because i go up to see my brother in Leeds so it'll be nice to try them one day.
6:00 "Can we get one of these machines in our kitchen at home?" "You mean... a kettle?"
10:33 "Do you want to have an argument now or later?" The light hearted snarky banter between those two is brilliant.
@@Dave_Sisson In all fairness, Vicky was in a cheeky mood this trip wasn't she ?
Vicky - Show him where the kitchen is.
@@Dave_Sisson The explanation for arguments and Peterborough is found in czcams.com/video/01AJAWHNd5o/video.html and for mention of what went wrong see czcams.com/video/2TP3E0Scyhs/video.html
I think that two things happened that day in Peterborough and the second (BBC) video gets the order wrong. Firstly, there was a missed connection due to a late incoming train, which was the departing train that you saw. They then decided to do a Vicki explores Peterborough, but perhaps she was late back for plan B leading to a further delay and the need to switch to plan C.
Frankly, how well Geoff and Vicki got on is a testament to the strength of what they have together. There must have been many times when they were tired and things went wrong, but it seems they took so much in their strides.
That machine costs £10000
