They helped me buy Stardew Valley, the game so good that people BOUGHT it after pirating it to support the developers. Like straight up breaking the law to play a game for free, and then changing your mind to just buy it. Yeah the points are still good

Club Nintendo gives me memories of opening my ds/wii game boxes, seeing the paper for Club Nintendo, and me just throwing it away because i was 6 and i didnt care about the other stuff inside the box besides the game itself

I recently got my grandma’s old Wii, and inside Donkey Kong Country Returns was a Club Nintendo code.
It’s even worse for me, I live in Europe and have enough points in game boxes to buy all of the stuff I really want, but I didn’t know so I missed my chance.
I was in my late 20's and raising my daughter on my own when club Nintendo started.
So not only did I miss out on all of it... I didn't even know it existed.
I'm 20 and just didn't have a wii or internet for a while. Had a ds though so I did redeem a couple codes here and there as a kid. Never got anything though.

I'm pissed at younger me for not knowing all the cool shit they just gave out.
I have like 40 wii games, and all those codes went unused.
I have a huge stack of Wii and Wii U and DS games and stuff and never touched this service and seeing everyone always praise it makes me sad I had no idea what it really even was as a kid
It really cannot be understated though how fast all the good stuff from Club Nintendo went out of stock and how expensive in coins it all was, you had to be buying serious amounts of Nintendo to afford them. Almost all the really good stuff would disappear within 24 hours, even during the 2002-2006 Nintendo VIP gamecube era where not many people were using the internet much. I would then see this stuff on ebay and used game stores for 100's. The amount of time to open all your boxes, enter in all your codes on a crude slow website and keep checking back everyday for decent rewards was really frustrating, so I'm not surprised if most people just gave up on the service altogether. My Nintendo is obviously just for marketing it's consoles to mobile gamers who likely don't even care about traditional gaming consoles, they know the console fanbase is strong enough with the Switch to keep buying their games and re-releases anyway. Until that changes, the good rewards and especially the physical rewards from Club Nintendo days are truly dead.

Depends on the person, yeah it is mostly boring stuff like stickers and keychains, but there are some cool animal crossing and mario items like the game case holder and iirc, clothing.

Fun Story: When the Club Nintendo Mewtwo Smash DLC reward was announced I (only having a 3DS) with a friend (who had a Wii U) redeemed our codes Smash codes on a single account for the free DLC, but because we live in Mexico we couldn't receive the SSB4 soundtrack due to shipping stuff without using some paid service (bare in mind we were just students without jobs), so we put a random address on USA and to this day I believe someone is enjoying a free copy of the SSB4 Soundtrack CD courtesy of Steve Stevenson (the fake name we put).

MyNintendo sends you discounts for your Birthday and STILL to last month the discounts are only for WiiU and 3DS games- No switch games discounted. It feels like a slap in the face for my Birthday every June.

Also, most of those strategy guides are actually starter guides, so they really only have the first 2 chapters from the actual guide, one of which is almost always the control layout.

i got the large AR card at the time and still have it, but what i did also was ended up taking the regular one and brought it to walmart and used their photo center to make one the size of the biggest posters they made at the time. was probably about 4x the size of the large card and they did let me do it. quality turned out fantastic since it already has sharper edges and no detail. can place it in the yard or in the middle of a large room, sucks to use in a way because you have to like run around and stuff, but is still very neat.
I have the Majora's mask CD and I love it. Felt like gold when I got it in the mail.
Whenever I got a Wii game when I was little, I would look at the little club Nintendo pamplet in the case and think "huh, ok"

If "My Nintendo" is mediocre now, it was absolute trash when it first launched.
When it launched, the discounts were mostly 10% and MAYBE 20%.
People were complaining and I saw someone direct people to actually complain to nintendo through their website and send them feedback, because they probably DON'T have any idea what people want.
So, I'll never forget, messaging them and telling them, 10% OFF is fine for Platinum coins, but if you want me to spend my Gold Coins, I want 30% off.
Amazingly, a week later, more and more games started getting 20-30% off.
So, I'm okay with the discounts... I just wish they'd offer it on games I want to buy. (or stuff I want to buy digitally.)

I looked up, “Club Nintendo Kirby Patches”, clicked on images, and the first result was an eBay thing of a Kirby Patch with upside-down eyes being sold for 89 dollars.
Those are probably worth some money, like misprinted/mis-stamped currency.
He forgot to mention the fact the My Nintendo Gold coins expire after 12 months
Not only do the coins expire, but so does your opportunity to claim them from your game purchases. Also there are more than a handful of games where the developers just kinda forgot to tell Nintendo they released physical copies, so don't give you points. The whole system is flawed.
Yeah I found out the hard way. Thinking I could save them for 2019 Nintendo switch games but nope!
At this point, My Nintendo now has physical prizes because of the Mario anniversery.
