- When the Folding Pistol Carbine launched, I thought this was a very cool concept, I saw reviews from all the typical big names. I did notice, that for a brand new, firearm with a completley new design, no one had any negatives to report.... not the case here.
dislcosure, RDRgear is a 02/07 FFL licensee. This FPC like many of the products we review, was purchased by us.

Had mine for over 2 months with a couple thousand shots. Absolute reliability, very accurate, and even more fun than my Ruger Pc9 I've had since 2018. Much lighter weight and quicker into action, it's now replaced my ARs as my home defense gun.
I agree, the PC charger was cool at the time. The FPC is much lighter and less time to deploy.
I've done the most accurate and tightly grouped shooting in my life with this gun and I have eight years in the military. I can not get over how accurate this weapon is! And the MG-42 vibes it gives off makes this cool firearm that much cooler!
Huge fan of this piece. It’s funny, the guys down at my local shop were talking shit about it, calling it cheap and garbage. I bought it at a show the next week in pa and absolutely love it.
❤ the FPC. No complaints!!!
I am happy you like it. It’s sub par for
Me.
Man, I took mine out today for the first time, this thing is a Hoot, it fired perfectly, no hangs, 3 mags nice case and folding is a nice feature. For ~$600 most reasonable people are going to really enjoy it.
I wish you reviewers would get over the mag issue. Was not planned for combat access just storage. As Storage it's fine. actually quite convenient. Very minor issue. Blown way out of proportion IMHO. Overall a great product. You did accurately report super accuracy. Thanks
If i had to only speak about the good things about a firearm to keep people happy. I would close this channel tomorrow. The fact is this, you and i both know the backwards release is an issue. It may not be as big of an issue for you as it is for me. Imagine this. What if your every day carry gun. Had a magazine release where you had to pull the mag release button, instead of push?
-
And you are correct. No one is using these for “combat”. But the manual
Of arms for this weapon is still backwards. The FPC is sub par band aid fix to the pistol brace issue, and an non taxable option for those wanting a SBR. With none of the performance of an SBR.
If you can’t neutralize a threat with 17 (or 23) rounds, I guess that’s your problem. I put 100 rounds through mine today and had no issues whatsoever. CZcamsrs just gotta find something to cry about.
I don’t think any tears were shed. Did you just say neutralize a threat?! Lmao.
I don't understand how you, the creator of this video, can say it's very accurate, excellent trigger, yet complain about the mags storage. There is more than one way to store/carry magazines! I own the fpc. I find it highly accurate, highly shootable, and easily storable as my truck gun. Honestly, I think you're knitpicking.
Did you listen to the review? I clearly stated how well it shot and how I like the way trigger and grip. I was very surprised at how well it shot.
U shouldnt have a truck gun. Thats how criminals get guns. Be more responsible
It’s easy to understand “He” created the video. Don’t like it make your own quit crying.
@@10oneryou shouldn’t have a car that’s how criminals steal cars.
Well, I fully understand what you are conveying. It's about the mag storage which these four commenter's have missed the point on. I stand with you in that the mag storage/release was not thought out before making it for public. I can see the mag storage in a 45 degree slant with two buttons, one for each mag drop, would make it easier for deployment.
Wow. Mount the damned sling on the right side. Instead of pushing the lever to release a mag at the rear pull up on the side you wish to release. Two big deal problems solved! I've shot a ton of rounds with a can and didn't notice any excess face gassing. Much less than some other firearms I have actually.
Oh, if the safety bothers you so much don't use it. Another "problem" solved!
I dont believe this is intended to be the only gun you own, need a backpack gun? Truck gun? Something to take a 9mm and make it longer range? Pest control? Yes all day. But sort of like cars you dont have to only have daily drivers they can be for fun too. And with a cool design.
Mine is exceptional, easy to pack and you have 63 rounds on board.
Dude why are you complaining about storing extra mags on the rifle ?! Who the hell cares even if it isn't the easiest in the world because you can still carry extra mags like you would with literally any other gun . Throw the mags in your vest or other mag carrier and then you can use those mags in the rifle in a last ditch effort . You are complaining about the wrong kind of shit
I totally agree. He’s not the only “reviewer” nitpicking about STORAGE. Someone else also commented and asked if they plan on using this weapon for combat…I know there are pros & cons on just about every tool but some people strongly gripe about the silliest thing. IT’S FOR STORAGE! (like you said, “GET A VEST!”)
The mag release for the extra mag storage can also be pulled/pushed down on the side you want by sticking you thumb in between the stock and the button instead of pushed in, so you can pull it down on the left side to release the left side mag then the right for the right side mag or push in on the same left side to get the right side mag out, that way you aren't reaching over with your thumb to the right side like you said to release the left side mag.
I have no finger nails and have no problem pulling down the mag release at all - way to much crying about the release
@@sickleshop Yep.
I am not concerned much about mag release as in Canada mags are 10 only. But I would like to have ability to put them into storage facing other side up.
@@dansu3586 I'm Canadian also and you'll have to be good at mag changes since we have to do them more often due to the crappy capacity limits.
Wow. And you have a business trying to sell firearms related products?
Considering the negative to positive reaction ratio in the comments, I would have taken this video down by now.
It doesn't seem to give you much credibility, assuming that's important for your business.
Absolutely love this folding pistol carbine. After only a couple of range visits, the bolt release is as intuitive as an AR. Piece O’ Cake Baby! Just plain fun to shoot! Accurate, points well and lightweight. I wouldn’t trade my ARs, but if you want to introduce folks to the shooting sports, defensive home protection, or a hesitant gun owner, this carbine is very persuasive! Smith and Wesson knocked this one out of the park!
Bro! For the price point and functionality, you are being petty.
You have to train with your equipment and you’ll be just fine.
You don't have to "remember", you have to train so you don't need to remember.
Exactly! Guy sounds like a little girl............
Bro your killing me here. lol I bought my FPC and I love it. It shoots so smooth. The recoil is light and highly manageable. There is virtually no muzzle rise like AT ALL. Ive had no issues with ejections, stove piping or carbon in my face. And i shoot a lot. The reason you have a negative opinion about it is because your unaware of why S&W designed it. Its to compete with the Kel-tec sub 2k in PCC in steel challenge, 99% of todays PCC's are used for steel challenge. The FPC intended secondary use is defense. Of course as a rifle in the most widely available and used caliber in the world 9mm. If you look at its main function to compete w/ the Sub 2k then its design makes sense. So I hope your opinion changes.
1. I’m pretty sure I praised the FPC on accuracy and reliability.
2. I mentioned the carbon because I was shooting suppressed, were you?
3. I had zero malfunctions. Not sure what you are referring to there.
4. I have been in the retail side of guns for 25years the kel-tec sub2000 has not been a thought for the last decade. I am very aware of the benefits of the FPC over the Kel-Tec that’s why the FPC had a Red fit and a light.
No one is shooting a kel-tec or a folding 9mm pcc in any steal challenge match. I literally laughed out loud when I read that.
My review was my review, it’s free content for you to consume. The FPC will sell because it it’s price. And the fad of bag guns. There are things on it just don’t like. If I’m going to run a 9mm at any pcc match I will used one of my dedicated 9mm pcc guns for that. I really hope you don’t believe this is a model by s&w for the pcc competition market.
@@rdrgear I liked your video and watched it all. Cant we all just be friends?
@@DisclosureTvNews we are friends. Remember there is no tone in text. I appreciate the interaction. I will be curious to if other versions if the FPC get released at shot show. Or if Kel-Tec comes back with an updated version.
PRO TIP - here’s how I pull out the stored mags - instead of PUSHING the opposite tab, just wedge your finger under the tab for the mag you want released with the barrel slightly pointed down towards the ground, and then gravity slides the mag you want right out into your hand.
Missing the point of the review and why I brought it up. But I appreciate the work around.
@@rdrgearI wouldn’t say he missed the point at all. Just pointed out an other option to a very real flaw you pointed out.
What’s wrong with mlok or pic rail QD swivel mounts for a sling? Legit question, I have one and looking into this now.
This seems like a great solution, gonna try it out this week!
@@jacobbeaton6611 i could not get
The fpc to fold and lock using the a mlok qd mount
That’s what I was just commenting and the jack ass of this channel tried to make me look stupid. "Oh no blah blah blah
Just bought one. Took it out of the box, mounted my red dot, loaded it up and put 50 rounds of ball through it right there. No malfunctions. Very accurate. Very handy rifle. Trigger was good. Seems well made. This is not a tactical weapon but what I wanted it for was home defense to give me better accuracy than my Glock 19 with the same reliability and also be light weight. I am very happy with it and look forward to the aftermarket addressing the mag storage (which I really will not be using). Bolt release is not an issue as slingshot works well.
I had a problem with the way the guns mag release was. I moved it to the other side much easy to release there .
To me the storage of 2 23 round mags in the stock is a strong point. Tell me about another gun that you can carry 63 round of ammo on the gun and out of the way. If the knucklehead shooting the gun can't figure out how to get the mags when he needs them maybe he isn't bright enough to be shooting a gun.
I have this fire arm and I love it. I agree with the mag storage is lame, but I feel it was just for storage/trasport convenience. At the range I pull those mags out before I start shooting otherwise it's a pain to get them out.
He skipped over so many other things about this weapon. He focused on one negative, and road through the review.
The lack of information in the review (if you can even call it a review) is astounding.
I'll add my vote to the many who think you are missing the mark. This gun is NOT for armed security details/ police / etc... it is a convenient package the shrinks because it folds ... perfect for backpacking, truck, bug out.
If you are worried about the safety ... just don't use it. It's NICE to have that option, I'm glad they included it. But I doubt I'll ever engage it for 99% of my usage!
On board storage of extra mags is a HUGE bonus. I see a major part of their target audience as M&P 9 owners who want mag compatibility and the convenience of all things being neatly stored.
The only part of your review that revealed anything to me was gassy suppressor host, but you have blown other minor things (IMO) out of proportion so I can't even trust that..
I"m getting one, cheap entry into local 2 gun competitions since I carry an M&P 2.0 9mm ... and where my mags will be stored on my belt. I'll figure out if it's too gassy for hosting my cans I'll have an excuse to seek out a less gassy can ... Hmmmmm CA$H 9k is looking like something I need ....
People complain about the mag release. I'm thrilled the extra mags are there. You don't have to use that. The competitors don't even have the ability to hold extra mags. There is no way that can be counted as a negative. You have the option to not use them. Pretend they are not there.
I lost you and you lost credibility when you couldn't figure out the engineering of the mag release because it seems pretty simple to comprehend. If you press down on a side when has it EVER unclogged a hole to release anything? Obviously when you hit the rocker style mag release it acts just like the name suggests, it rocks from side to side pulling a pin out of the mag's locking hole on the other side of the rocker lever. Seems like you should have chosen something else to complain about because that just highlights a severe lack of engineering comprehension..
I agree. I've heard people bash on this.
To me, it makes perfect sense.
People just need to know their manual of arms for all of their Weapons. They are all different.
What other gun do you own that unmodified carries 63 rounds of ammo?
Love this gun, thirty five years LE, every cop should have one. The sling issue is not an issue. I placed a Edgar Sherman Sling on mine with a QD mount on the underside, sling is folds perfectly. I agree with the mag storage issue, however that can easily be overcome by storing one of the mags on a duty belt. Not perfect, but pretty damn close. What is perfect in life.
My only issue with using the supplied QD mounting points. Was the position of the rifle when it was slung from those points. Very little positive control. And the off angle of the rifle. QD points could have had more development time
Just use a mag pouch on your belt if it bothers you that much. You dont even have that option of holding extra mags on the sub 2000. Not a big deal. Im buying one.
I hear your gripes and they all feel very valid, I was a bit irritated and confused by the mag storage release system too in that it is both counter intuitive and awkward, but I still love that it is at least there. I bought one yesterday and have been very excited about it and I hate to hear that you got light headed from the thing upon shooting it as I have yet to shoot mine. Here is the deal though, I heard so much bad from the sub 2000 and I wanted a backpack rifle. This left me stuck debating the Ruger pc carbine takedown and the fpc..... I know I want the ruger 10/22 takedown in the future and so........ fear of redundancy and budget restrictions on GETTIN' EM ALL left me feeling that this was very much the right move. I think I am going to be happy with my purchase and I can't wait to try it out. I do think this was the right pick for me.
Its an awsome gun and run flawlessly. Easy to clean. Its accurate. Compact. Whats all the whining about.
Did you watch the video?! Pretty sure if covered all the topics you just mentioned. The functionality of the FPC overall has flaws. Was my point. The FPC will make a great cabin, or camp plinker. And that’s about it
And that’s just IMO.
Amen. It shoots like a laser at 100 yards. Who the hell cares if the mag holder isn't tactical enough.
2000 rounds+ and it hasn't barfed once. Not once.
@@SgtHulkasToe like I said. If you want a cabin plinker on the cheap. The FPC is great option.
@@rdrgear You, too, have flaws...as do we all. But most of us manage to engage without a sour look on our face.
So what gun do you recomend that competes with this gun.? I havent found any
This video is more negative than any others I found on this gun. If the mag holder bothers you that much, then pretend it’s not there and don’t use it and stick them on your belt or Fanny lack or chest pack or leave them at home like you would on all other magazine fed guns .
This is NOT good for schools because you don’t like the mag holder?…wtf?
What PCC does NOT have a safety? ….this is NOT a pistol
Accurate
American made
Foldable PCC
Mag storage
Reliable
….but hell no for schools and it’s a novelty in your eyes ….I won’t be subscribing
Great thing about you tube its all about varying opinions. As soon and someone does not like what i am
Saying they tune out the parts we agree on and focus on the parts we don’t agree on. FPC is affordable, it shoots great which i covered, american made, is always a good. But not always the best. The magazine mechanism poor at best.j appreciate your contribution to the conversation.
@@rdrgear it’s not that we disagree, it’s your reasoning. A good company make an affordable gun, that can be stored easily and provides more accurate firepower than any pistol and it appears very relatable, and you don’t like it because of how it stores extra mags….makes no sense. It didn’t have to store ANY mags and you don’t have to use it. And ALL PCCs have safeties….am I wrong? It’s a rifle! You didn’t knock because it’s inaccurate, because it jams, because it’s unsafe, or because you can’t shoot it which all those would be critical design flaws….but no, you don’t like how it stores mags
It’s affordable, comes with a case, backstraps and mags and it’s American made…..but you want to say it’s a novelty. With the right ammo, It would be perfect for school security. I can’t trust you judgement on any gun now because your reaction to this new gun was ridiculous….you don’t have to like it, but a novelty?
All you have to do is practice it works very well when your not stupid
I agree............. this guy is a real knucklehead..
Glad to see that everyone had same problem with this....the fact that taking mags out of a stock is awkward....ummm, when the f is that normal? I think it's a great feature imho
The storage idea is not new. Mags have been attached to carbines for decades. My issue was with the how the mags were released. If you want reviews, where nothing is wrong and it all amazing comments. I’m not the guy. I have been in this industry for 28 years. Im not just saying nice shit so i can get free guns.

The FPC is innovative and cool. It’s super accurate, i am a m&p fan. The FPC has design flaws. That’s just facts. 🤙
I liked your review, and I agree with your comments as for use by professional defense (school defense). As for home defense and general shooting, l I find this gun great, super reliable and accurate. My wife could take of business with this carbine with 23 rounds. It is reliable, easy to shoot and light weight. For the average old guy or gal who can't shoot a 9mm pistol well, this is a great option when your arthritis is acting up.
Silly me but isn’t one suppose to train, train and train with a weapon so when SHTF you are operating automatically. So your complaint with mag release doesn’t hold water. It maybe an awkward design but you made it sound you walked out onto the range for the first time and discovered the problem and were upset.
Uh. That's why it's called a review.
I love mine. No problems or gripes at all!
Man I'm really sorry but what you do with all other fire arms which do not have any storage in the stock? If the stock was without the storage like the rest of the guns on the market does it make it good. Are you really disregarded the S&W for the option of the storage they provided? Looks like it's the only feature that bothered you so much.
Right on!!
I have one and I love it.
I don't feel like the mag release is a deal breaker. Not many guns have ammo storage built into them. If you are worried about efficiency switching mags you wear a mag holster like you would have to with any other gun. You will always have another 46 rounds with you. ++ to me.
On Board storage is not something that is a feature that’s a need for most.
Thank you!
💯 true the mag storage it is what makes the gun unique.
Honestly half of your gripes can be solved by getting familiar with the firearm. This seems like a rushed video with not very much thought put into it. I am by no means a s&w fan but after shooting my buddies, I'll be picking one of these up. I appreciate your criticism but I think if you were familiar with this gun half of this video could have been more positive
I am very familiar with it. If you don’t see the issue with the mag system. You shooting your buddies for a few rounds. Is a very small sample size of experience.
Also. My criticism was not based on familiarity. It was based on function of the features.
I have the Primary Arms 1x Prism Scope. Its designed for the 9mm 16" Barrel Carbine. Has perfect BDC Reticle. It took over a month to come in. But I knew it was on Backorder when I placed the order. I was shooting Winchester 124gr NATO last night. I had it on Zero in about 4 rds. I did use my laser bore Sight. Checked my Mbus and good to go. I was getting good groups at 50 and 100yds. Makes a Great truck gun, Home Defense. Or to take Camping and Fishing. I have a 23rd magazine with Underwood Extreme Penatrators for the Woods.
I have a 4 mag belt. I don't keep them on the stock. I'm always standing up when I'm switch mags. Put an M-lock swivel on the front.
The mag retention in the stock is my only real issue, and I'm sure there was some reasoning behind it that just doesn't translate into real world use (designer/engineer vs end user). The safety was probably a compliance issue to be able to sell it in restrictive states. The gas blowback when suppressed should be expected based on the design, and it is in my experience just as bad with the SUB2000. Like he said it's an innovative design and hopefully S&W will listen to customer feedback and make improvements.
Dude you complain alot! The beauty of the engineering is there! He reminds me of Biden! This is the only video that complain alot..take it for what it is! A $699 trucker/backpack carbine . Sheesh ..it's better than my sub 2000 gen 2
Good vid over all. My process: barrel downward (low ready or high ready), hit mag spare mag release with off hand finger and it gravity drops right into my hand, no problem, fast after I trained a day or so. I don't 'use a can so no gas in my face. One inch groups at 50 yards with my red dot. Fits in my motorcycle luggage. Very reliable. I love it. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. Now my "go to home" defense arm (rural forest location) for 2 or 4 legged varmints (I get lots of skunks and raccoons, a few others. I keep a 23 round mag in the gun so "tactical reloads" are not a high priority consideration for my purposes. Thanks!
Why would you need to shoot skunks? 😂
@@Natrist2 Your emoji says it all. (One of them sprayed my wife's car in the driveway. Was up 'til after midnight trying to clean it. That stuff dries and most cleaners won't dissolve it. Weird!
@@GeezerWheels They don't normally spray without reason and it might be illegal to shoot them, depending on the laws where you live. I hear a solution of sodium carbonate, peroxyde, water and dishwashing soap will quickly get rid of the smell.
@@Natrist2 GREAT suggestion for cleaner - I'll have try that. My store brand spray cleaner was useless. Some years we have real skunk problems - large numbers. They come up on my deck like they own the place - not good for our cats. They also carry diseases. Our veterinarian says if you have outdoor cats you should get rid of skunks and raccoons at the house. I have nothing against either, but both are problems on our deck. There is an abundance of them this entire county, so I don't feel to bad taking out a few. Thanks for the cleaner recipe!!!
Mag storage release issues seem more user error than bad design. Not a deal breaker for me.
Lol. Did you guys even listen to me. Did you HEAR me explain the backwards operation. My god, I gave an honest non-shill opinion and you guys are all but hurt.
Sounds like your butt hurt.
The tertiary mag release, That's a manual of arms training problem. That's piddly bs.
Valid statement, but its still a very poor execution of mechanism.
If taking a extra 15 seconds to remove the 3rd magazine is a deal killer i totally disagree with you. Practice will overcome the problem. I have one on ordered.
It’s honestly not that bad. Cool little plinker, not a bad little range toy. Yeah it has its corks but it’s better than the keltec that lives in the same category imo
Exactly
I like it. Super fun to shoot. I’ve gotten used to the extra mag release, but I view it as a nice to have that extra storage of ready to use ammo.
The S&W FPC is also very accurate as well, at my age(64) accurate 50 yard shots with a semi-auto pistol isn't happening consistently , but I am very accurate with the FPC at 50 yards without a magnified red dot optic, just a cheapo Sitemark Red Dot,I really am thinking about unloading some of my 9mm semi-auto pistols and buying the new Response by S&W just because I enjoy shooting the 9mm in a carbine format so much more and the Grandchildren prefer the FPC as well over pistols !
Feels like this gun would've reviewed better if there was no mag storage in the stock. But S&W adds mag storage, fails to make it a more tactical design, and gets dinged for it. It shoots "lights out", but is no more than a "plinker" due to the mag storage.
Pretty much. If if I was to have a go to 9mm. The FPC is bottom of that list for far more reasons. I would simply use one of my 9mm AR’s.
Agreed. How is a feature not usually seen a deal breaker? Very disappointed in this review. Reliable and great shooter is not a novelty.
@@keiththibodeau8607 that’s the great thing about this platform. The content is consumed for free by the viewer and we will not always disagree. My reviews are based on practical end user views. Not the novelty or niche things about a system or product. The FPC shoots amazingly well. It’s super accurate platform. Which I cover in the review, this not a defensive deployable 9mm carbine platform. It lacks in the bag deployment area. It’s low cost mostly plastic construction. Is a benefit and a negative. At the end of the day it is a novelty, on board storage has been done for decades with carbine. It’s a great shooter, great plinker for the cabin or camper gun. As I mentioned that’s what’s great about this platform. I don’t have to just say awesome great things about everything that I purchase for this channel. And the consumer of this content and I won’t always agree. Thanks for the watch and the comment Keith.

@@rdrgear When you have to result to insulting your viewers, you’ve already lost.
So two suggestions on the mag issues. Instead of pushing on the opposite side to release, pull on the side for the magazine you want. Or, like you would an AR use mag holsters/pouches. The reason the mag storage is more complicated is that the spring in the center is to used to field strip the rifle. The safety issue and the magazine issue can be overcome with training and frequent use. Be thankful that you didn't get one of the early ones that had a bolt issue with firing pin spring retention pins that fell out. S&W fixed this but it was disappointing to fire one magazine through it before having to send it back in for repair.
I just purchased one of these and had this happen when doing an initial cleaning, (pulled the bolt out, set it down, picked it up and saw a pin sitting there) I cleaned and reassembled everything. Do you think this would necessitate sending it in?
Yes the mag release on the stock sucks but this is one of the most accurate guns ive bought right out the box and with ALL kinds of ammo, ive tried 10 different brands/ types/ grains.
Even my GF who is a novice shooter can hit 6" steel targets at 50 yards with a Vortex red dot standing. And she struggles with my AR 15 and M&P 15 22 past 25 yards even on a bench with a tripod
I run steel pro-mags 33 round and ACT standard Mags aftermarket at the range and they work great. No Cycle issues.
Be careful if you buy the cheaper ETS Clear polymer mags that say "works with Smith and Wesson 9mm" they dont work with the 2.0 M&P system which is what the FPC is.
I bought ETS Mags for my glock 43x and 42 thinking i could buy them for the FPC but the version they sell wont seat right.
Manual of arms... Learn it
I don't know why people keep harping on the way the release lever is for the on board magazines. With a little "training", it's not hard to do. Try cupping your hand underneath the magazines instead of the way you are doing it. Reach for the magazine closest to you and then reach with your fingers to the opposite side to depress the lever and then start pulling the magazine out gripping it with the crook of your thumb and trigger finger. I had that figured out in less than 5 minutes. Try thinking outside the box.
Why would you want to open or close it if a round is chambered?
That’s actually a great safety feature for those brain farts.
But, this guy is an asshat looking for views😊
I somewhat disagree about the safety being an issue. I actually can't think of a rifle without a safety. If you sling it and are carrying it with one in the chamber. I'd definitely want a safety switch.
1. Its mot a rifle. 2. Training is a safety
@rdrgear ok 👍 👌
Totally agree training is #1
I'm saying. If you are carrying it say slung like on your chest. Without a safety and something hits the trigger. That's why the safety is there. And 16 inches is rifle length. It's considered a rifle.
It IS a rifle @@rdrgear
I think if something happened and I had an extra 46 rounds in the butt of my gun I wouldn't be sitting there complaining. I've watched quite a few of these reviews on this gun now and and I don't hear anybody complaining about having extra rounds.
Was not complaining about the extra rounds. I was complaining about the mechanical design of the mag release.
Then just carry them in your pocket like the competitors lol.
It’s a good system for what it is. After you use it a bit works just good for me.
Why does it have a safety?
I have FPC and agree with you the problem with magazine storage. I ended up pulling the side of the level and tilt the stock forward and let the gravity to drop the magazine out. I bought a Taccom stock and just give up the storage unit. Hope some third parties could come up a better modification.
Gotta love it when a dude makes a review video, then tries to argue with nearly everyone who posts a comment 😂.
I have this weapon and it is great!
I am happy you are happy with it.
With other carbines where would you carry your mags and why isn't that an option here?
Simple fix for the magazine issue, purchase two magazine holders that are made for a belt.
Defeats the purpose of the design. Finding a work around was not the point. Just my .2
Cents
@@rdrgear I get it and just purchased one of the S&W 9mm M&P carbines, and I immediately new that the only thing I would use the stock magazine holder was to transport. Once deployed those magazine go in my back pocket or a magazine holder. I agree with you on the design and it is very awkward and it would cause extreme reloading delays, not good, but a good use of transport space.

Actually the only reason I'd want to fold and store in a bag is because it's the last thing I could cram in my safe..seriously..we are living in a time of great guns
The mag release sounds like a 3d printer fix , something to replace the release with an “tight fit “ rather then a full release button. My brain is already going
That could definitely be a popular upgrade.
Personally, you are making a freaking mountain out of a molehill. I get it. The mag lock is a stupid design, but there are half a dozen workarounds for this issue. You make it sound like a major malfunction with the gun. Just an overstatement on your part. Where others ignore it, you make it sound like a fail. Just disagree with your assessment.
Thats fair. You disagree with me and that’s totally ok.
Would it be possible to run the PA Gemini x2 Prism on the FPC? I've never had an optic mounted so far foward.
The eye relief would probably be too far forward for a prism type optic.
@@rdrgear I was afraid of that but wanted to confirm. Thanks for the input 😎👍
I think the S&W M&P FPC fun shooting neat folding rifle. 9MM S&W Magazines work with 15, 17, 23 or custom extended 27 rounds. So if you have 9mm Shield 2.0 it should be good. Haven't tried smaller 13 round Magazines with mine. Yeah base magazine holder seems backwards. I argue it isn't there for fast switching magazines. But counter weight and convenience. I put a Sig Romeo5, Brinyte xp22 LED, Viridian HS1 laser handstop, m-lok qd sling mount on the side, and a Mcarbo Muzzle brake. Small backpack gun to carry where don't want big rifle case. Truck gun, Boat gun, camping, Hiking, more gray man bug out. Still fun to plink with. Thinking your can might making the gas blow back worst. Assuming the some state/federal law requiring any new rifles sold to come with a safety. doesn't bug me, similar to Maverick 88.
Great insight, well written thank you. The can on these is always going
To be somewhat of an issue. Especially indoors.
The 9mm shield mags probably won’t work and they are a different shape then the M&P mags, even though the shield it part of the M&P line up. Thanks for the engagement. I hope to you around in other reviews.
Jeff
I just bought one . trigger pull is 7.5 lbs. what is your trigger pull ?
Well, I'm not crazy about the mag storage either,,,but it does have one. My 5.56 doesnt have one. This firearm is not an outright assault weapon but it is reliable and does provide a good defense. It is a relatvely inexpensive folding backpack/truck gun generally thought of as a SHTF/survival/home defense/great for a day of plinking type of carbine and is fun to shoot.
@@SilentWatcher594 All valid points. Nothing we review are Assault weapons. Because 1 you tube does not like it. And al of the rifles we review are semi auto. We may bring out the fun switch stuff again soon.
@rdrgear
My bad choice of words,,,assault rifle...I didn't mean a full auto, weapon of war. I just meant that for the money, it's a decent short range, self defense, backpack, plinking rifle. Thanks for the video.
@@SilentWatcher594 100%. If I had kept the FPC I would have for sure kept it for the cabin gun. I appreciate the watch. 🤙
Play frankly I think you're full of your own self-importance.. mlock Magpul makes a great friend piece that fits quite well and works great in my weapon.... Take your opinion down a bit..the weapon is not made for combat.. but for fun at the range..it Carry's a lot of extra ammo...works for me
Did you proof read this? I think you were angry when you wrote this.
After the FIRST TIME, you should be okay. You spent more time on the mag storage than ANYthing else.
It’s was most annoying. And most of the other reviews as free gun reviews. And or paid by S&W
So, to discount the rifle because of the extra mag release system seems a bit disingenuous to me. First off, what other options even offer ANY onboard extra mags? Maybe the release is not the best design but the fact that the mags are there at all is a plus to me. If you can't use it fast enough for your purpose, you can ignore it and carry your extra mags the normal way you do. Every review I have seen touts the accuracy, reliability, and the trigger of the FPC and those are the first things I care about in any weapon I am considering buying.
I see this rifle as an alternative to a shorter PCC that now have additional requirements by the ATF that police forces would not have to deal with so, it was never meant as a police weapon. Home defense and fun 9mm plinker seem it best use.
You just basically repeated what I said in the review. So thank you for watching.
In my opening statement I wanted this to be a great option for LE and civilians alike. As i stated.
-
I also discussed how accurate the FPC shoots and that I like the trigger, the frame mounted safety not so much.
On Board mag storage has been around since the Vietnam era. When dudes were taping mags together. This is new to a PCC and it was not very well thought out. As I stated.
-
It was not about the speed of the mag release it was the backwards operation of the release also I stated.
In regards to the other reviews. Most received the gun for free so take that for what it’s worth. But as same as those other reviews. I have the FPC high praise for accuracy function and trigger. It was a YT review so the reliability is solid, I feel to get a handle on that it would require alot more range time or a 1000 round test.
-
This is CZcams. I share my opinions, that’s what you tube is for. It’s free content. To discuss random things.
Thanks for watching.
@@rdrgear OK, I get it. I keep a G19 on the nightstand but my accuracy with it (even with a red dot) was not nearly as good as it was when putting it in a MCK conversion and using it shoulder braced. Since I am now not able to have that system, this 16" barrel 9mm looks like a good home defense replacement to the Glock once the reliability is well confirmed. I would choose a light/laser combo for it for home defense.
@@jmartin5607 fair points.
1. Pistol accuracy can always be overcame with training.
2. You can invest in other measures for your home defense. The plan should be for them to not even want to try your house!
3. You will always have better accuracy with more points of contact. As you have found with your brace use. As much as the ATF sucks. If you want to Form 1 /4. One of your weapons the process is not hard.
4. Before I would invest in a laser. I would invest in a red dot and a weapon light. You will be surprised how much of a advantage a red dot can give you.
5. As I said earlier training. Training will overcome any issues you Jane with firearms. The cost of the FPC. Could fund you a 1000 rounds and some pistol training in your local area. Just something to chew on. And thank you for the engagement, and the watch
@@rdrgear Well, I am an old fart and the eyes are not what they used to be. Weight is important for me and I like the weight ( the lightness) of the FPC. Acquiring a red dot in a home defense scenario will take me second OR two with possible bleary eyes and the rifle must be raised in firing position as well. Then I have to turn the light on too. With a light/laser, I can have both aids on with one button and shoot the rifle from the hip if I have to as the laser will guide the shot. Seems faster to me. I have a light laser on my shotgun and that set up looks to be good, easy and fast to bring into action. This is a home defense scenario only. I have a red dot on my Glock and it just takes me a little longer to see the dot and get the light on that's also on the Glock. It's a shake to wake Holosun.
As for training, I used to go shoot several times a week but since I began having vocal chord and breathing issues, I cannot stand a lot of gunpowder and lead smell at the range. Outdoor is better but it's over 100 degrees here in Texas at daytime now. I am still confident to hit center mass with a G19 at 10 yards anyway.
@@jmartin5607 I would just get a PSA 16 inch ar for home defense tbh. Cheaper mags, less chance of overpenetration, better manual of arms. This PCC is more for truck gun applications
Someone should tell him to pull up on the mag release to release them on the same side. You can do it easily with one finger in the same motion as you grab the mag.
Thank you for the very informative video. I always enjoy watching your videos.
Which red dot optic do you recommend for the FPC? I was thinking of using a Trijicon MRO Patrol I pulled off one of my rifles. Also which flash hider would you recommend for the FPC? I'm not planning on using a suppressor.
You could use nah dot really.
The release configuration for clips, I counter with, it makes sense ergonomicly if you have larger hands and decent dexterity, I'm Left handed. Shoot either way. That system makes sense...
Have you noticed any hammer marks on the bolt of the FPC? Will it need replacement? Thanks!
I have not. I did not end up keeping the FPC
I see. I will keep mine. It's very accurate and a joy to shoot carbine.
Have seen several videos onFPC that was purchased and had no serious complaints at all, including the mag storage.
Thanks for the review
I love mine but I wish that the spare magazines were just held in by retention.
100%.
How did you install the magpul grips without a rail?
Not tracking on the question.
@@rdrgear sorry, do the Half Slot Rail Covers snap into place? or do I need to pull the handguard
MLok rail system
You don’t need to pull anything they just go right onto the hand guards using the MLOK system
Can you put the 17 round mag in the right side to make it easier to grab/deploy the mag since it’s shorter?
The button release is backwards. That's the issue
To balance the release of the onboard magazines, I must say that I found that pushing the opposite lever to release either one seemed odd to me too at first. 17 rounds is as many as you might have in a handgun in a defensive situation. In addition, you have greater stability during the incident. As a field gun, it is not an issue, and if pressed, I'd be willing to fight with that first mag. So maybe the bigger mag is my start, and if I have time to prepare, I move to keep them on my body, just like my handgun before moving forward.
My thoughts on the lever tend to agree it would be better as he says, but if I jump out of the truck, I do know I've got 63 rounds, gotta like that. The fact that the lever doubles to allow field stripping, with fewer parts to break, is also a positive. I think its best feature is how compact this thing is, and not needing to remove accessories is a good thing too.
I really like how light it is.
My only gripe is, S&W really should send everybody a kit to attach a sling, and get to work designing that problem away, and it seems the mag release buttons should be two separate buttons facing with the stock so that the mags spring toward you versus 90 degrees against the stock. They could fix that, and I wouldn't mind buying the upgrade. All in all, I am very happy with this one, and hopefully, it only comes out for fun, or maybe a coyote or snake.
@@donaldschneider3896 Don, that is the most well balanced and articulate rebuttal I have had the pleasure of reading. And from your post I can tell you actually own the FPC. Man I hope you subbed to the Chanel. I would love to have you around on the other reviews we have posted and future reviews. Thank you.
Jeff
It’s not an issue. The design makes perfect sense.
It’s an unwillingness to train with the product
@@mikejmardis no, the design is flawed, its backwards. And sure anyone can build a workaround… i did not review the work around.
I mounted an m-loc swivel on mine
Does it still lock when folded. Probably not.
Any rumors if they will put out a .40 version?
40 would be nice. 10mm with a metal handguard and that magazine storage fixed would be better
Rhode Island with the shoutout!!!! EP in the house
Possibly a Q Sling devil or Slingleberry would solve the sling attachment issue. The stock is novel for storage but magazines belong in a mag pouch on the belt or LBE. Just my .02.
Whaa! I refuse to adapt to anything! I THINK IT SHOULD BE ONLY ONE WAY AND I REFUSE TO ADAPT OR LEARN ANYTHING DIFFERENT! WHAAA! Seriously man? It is practical physics, you push one side of a rocker switch, the other side raises, if you just trained/practiced with it a few times (like everything else you need to familiarize yourself with) it would be 'normalized'. Either you wanted a different take on the product to get views or you are just ridiculous...
You seem to be really knit picking. I do appreciate that you had some positive things to say.
I was able to add a QD on mine.
But does it fold. Think I mentioned this is the review.
I like it; it’s definitely a learning curve on the mag storage, but I always think of it as a little lever to pull up, rather than a button to push down, and if you do it that way, it isn’t reversed.
I’m on the fence between this gun and the Ruger pc carbine. Any thoughts ? Also wondering what the barrel shroud is made of on the smith and Wesson?
A lot more cool factor and access to accessories with the ruger charger. I would go ruger
I own both platforms. I recommend purchasing both for how little they cost 👍🏻
@@karlk2737 or one quality 9mm carbine.
Ruger is way too heavy, more expensive and has issues with jamming. Check Iraqveteran8888 and other videos that show consistent issues. If you’re looking for a fun gun to shoot and use for home defense, this is for you. If you want to be tacticool and hang a bunch of useless crap on it go with an AR-15. Stay away from videos that can make a 20 minute video about how a single shot 22 isn’t tacticool enough; it isn’t meant to be. This is a great lightweight gun that can go under the seat of your truck, be carried discreetly in a nondescript bag, etc. Don’t listen to tacticool guys more interested in hanging hardware than having fun. This isn’t the weapon you use to fight a war but you can defend yourself and your home with it. It’s very accurate and the money you save on this one you buy ammo, a light or other accessories.
I have a Ruger 9 MM. Reflex sight and a laser. I really like it. Very accurate a 200 yrds.
I think with proper ammo, it would be effective option for school security within 125 yards with a good quality optic. Lighter weight and a bit simpler than an AR for beginners.
You are evaluating at Gucci with a practical styled/designed weapon.
Your judgement is questionable
Many people confuse criticism with complaining. This video seems like it was more about pointing out what could be improved, not bashing the gun. I have an FPC, and I love it as a truck gun, put over 500 rounds through it, and haven't had a malfunction. It's great having the extra rounds, but I do agree that the mag release mechanism is not ideal. I think it's a great PCC, just may not be for everyone.
@@rrealusmc75 appreciate you. Finally someone who sees some on the same things I pointed. 🤙
