    Ended up with several of the 1974 and 1986 $2 bills growing up when my family traveled to Canada for dad’s work. I lived in rural Ontario for awhile back in 1999 and we still used mostly bills. I liked the ‘74 issue the best!

      The Indy-pendent Stacker Yes the 1974 might be my favourite too.
      I always wondered how prevalent the $2s were in the years after 1996

    The same day I was given a $2 dollar note back around 2006 I was in line at timmies and an older man in front of my Mother and I paid for his coffee with a silver dollar. I will never forget how the teller wasn’t sure what to do with it and left it in front of the machine where the man left it. I regret not picking it up and taking it with me.

    Got about a dozen or so of the 1974 $2 bills from my dad when we lived in Canada in the 70s, about four are in what appear to be very good shape. They probably haven't been touched in 40 years.

      There is 2 versions of 1954, the "devils face" and modified portrait. The modified portrait, about 2$ but the devil's face could fetch a pretty penny if you have some of the scare prefix, to know what version you have yoh can look at QEII's hair and the signatures kn the bill, the signatures to look for are Beattie-Coyne with prefix *A/A or prefix H/A and T/A also signatures Coyne-Towers prefix *A/A

    The most recent 2$ bills are going to lose legal tender status in a couple months. -Should I keep the bunch that I have? it seems like they will never really be worth anything significant. They're good quality (never folded or lightly folded/handled), but still nothing near mint, nor are they protected with any sort of cover.-
    -I feel like they may -_-lose-_- value after they lose legal tender status, plus it will be a hassle to sell them for 1-5$ each even if they still retained or gained some value, since I can't just go to a bank to cash them.-
    And while I hear some specific versions of 2$ are a bit more valuable (particularly if in great condition), I presume they're much much rarer and that I don't have any since these are just ordinary random ones.

    • @CanadianKingCoins
      @CanadianKingCoins  Před 3 lety

      While you are correct that the $2 denomination will no longer be official legal tender at the end of January, they will continue to be accepted by banks indefinitely, so you never have to worry about them being worth less than they currently are. In this sense nothing really changes

    • @MsHojat
      @MsHojat Před 3 lety

      @@CanadianKingCoins yeah you replied quickly! I was just going to edit/delete my post because I realized that fact myself.
      Just can't be used in stores (although many -maybe smaller- stores will probably still accept them anyway I'm guessing), so no big deal.

    • @CanadianKingCoins
      @CanadianKingCoins  Před 3 lety

      @@MsHojat Yeah theoretically the stores could still cash them in at the bank, so it shouldn't cause a problem.
      I think the whole removing legal tender status thing is likely just so the Bank of Canada isn't liable for any transactions with the old notes anymore (in case someone were to use fakes, a cahier might not be familiar enough to refuse it)

      I would check your note for the ser# some are a lot more valuable then others. In front of the serial there is 3 letters known as prefix. Also the signatures on the bills, tbe first issues were Bonin-Thissen and the ones to look for are Ser#BRX3520000 to BRX3579999 as well as any prefix EBX.
      The second issue was Crow-Bouey with the serial to look for ARX0000001 to ARX1339999, Ser# ARX14000000 to ARX2320000 as well as any prefix AUG,AUH,AUI,AUJ,AUK,AUL,AUM,AUN and finally the last issue Thiessen-Crow and prefixes AUG and and AUH are extremely valuable especially in high grade, there is a few other but those would be the highest money bill you could find

      @@MarlenaXR No, the signature combinations often change a few times during a single banknote’s issue. In this case, the Deputy Governor G. Thiessen was promoted to Governor in 1994. Since the 1986 $2 was printed until 1996, we see a change in the signatures.
