- Our oceans are steadily filling with plastic - 5.25 trillion particles globally. In her TEDxOlympicBlvdWomen talk, Anna Cummins shares how she and her husband Marcus Eriksen co-founded the 5 Gyres Institute to explore plastic on a global level, and leverage their science to drive solutions. Recent 5 Gyres findings are driving national solutions to a previously unknown source of pollution lurking in products in many of our bathrooms.
Anna Cummins is the co-founder and Executive Director of The 5 Gyres Institute, dedicated to engaging people in policy and design solutions to end the global threat of plastic pollution. She and her husband Dr. Marcus Eriksen founded 5 Gyres to establish a global baseline on marine plastic pollution in areas where no previous data existed, publishing the first global estimate for all ocean plastics in 2014. Their expeditions invite scientists, artists, journalists, and industry on board to learn first hand, and become engaged as ambassadors for change. 5 Gyres is currently focused on inspiring communities to dive deeper into plastic pollution solutions through science, education, and action.

Amazing talk Anna! Thank you for what you and the 5Gyres do and including me in an amazing plastic polllution expedition. We are very thankful!
Incredible talk, incredible person.
For starters, conference organisers should STOP using those plastic holders with synthetic strap to place the name of the participant and the conference.... These are held for a few hours or a few days and then discarded !!!!!
