@SanjayaElvitigala Because when I was going to do Data Science back in 2018, some people told me that I'd be able to switch from a Software Engineer to a Data Scientist if I did IT instead of DS. On those days, there were no jobs for ML engineers at all. Even today, there are very few positions. And those positions require like PhDs or 10 years of experience. However, there are positions for data engineers and BI engineers, which is another discipline for data scientists that has no relation to ML.

Very good explanation, Sanjaya. I have used punched cards in Main Frame computer in Sri Lanka. Perhaps it was the first in Asia to be used for structural engineering design. I believe the best is to have A'Level with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and most importantly Maths. Try to teach things like app development with IntelliJ IDEA. All the best!.

Students wo are watching this, don’t give up learning to code listening to some CEO who wants to make profit. They are providing a service, and every word they are speaking is to maximize their customer base. By learning to code, you are learning the art of solving problems logically. If that is your passion, please continue. Just because AI can write a calculator, it doesn’t mean AI can design a complex system. Sure AI can help. But to solve human problems, we need humans who understand those problems and have the problem solving skill. Be smart and use their technology to your own advantage.
PS: and please dont waste your money on those AI courses offered by Sri Lankan institutes. There is no AI without mathematics and data science. So learn those first.

and what you said about complex systems being designed by AI is just a matter of time. Last year no one believed that we could generate life like FHD video clips this soon. Now it has happened. So will this. Only a small number of multi-disciplined people will have the capability to thrive.

​@@SanjayaElvitigala I don't know much about your course bundle. So I'm not going to talk about it. All I want to say is of someone wants to study about AI, they should have a strong foundational knowledge on Math, Stat and CS.
About software engineers, GPT4 can't even handle the tasks of an SE intern yet. There are multiple times I personally decided to write my own code after trying multiple detailed prompts with ChatGPT/Copilot for specific scenarios. But I must tell that AI has surely made the work easier. I spend way less time writing lengthy code from scratch. But I don't see any CEO's that will trust an AI with their projects, and any customers who will spend money on such products. Even if a time comes where AI's write complete code for a complex system, human engineers who understand what it wrote will have to be behind the wheel to take responsibility. Humans will have to review the architecture, design and the code. So I'll wait at least another 15 years before talking about AIs replacing software engineers.
The situation in Sri Lanka where companies not hiring interns/engineers is not related to AI. It is mainly due to the mass hiring which was done during the covid season, and the global recession with followed after covid. There was a high demand for online services during the covid season and companies had to expand quickly. But that was not sustainable when things went normal. So most of the IT companies have frozen hiring at the moment.
I'm against everyone coming into the IT sector just because it pays well. But if you have true passion for this field, you can succeed, and AI is not a significant threat.

This is quite misleading, heres why - > Nvidia wants build a monopoly of AI compute infrastructure, and then sell AI services to people via there hardware they make people dependent on them. Now imagine if a large part of the population doesnt know how to code and the AI makes some mistake , you would have to contact Nvidia to sort out your issue , thus creating a strong dependence on Nvidia. And if most of the world relies on Ai for coding and Nvidia for AI infrastructure then the stock price of Nvidia goes up. So its in the best interest of the CEO to say that learning to code is pointless and position them selves as the sole provider of AI coding services , i.e a monopoly. Please dont get tricked by such marketing gimmicks.
