Yes, it is easier to start from scratch. You can try to edit but I find it very hard within garmin. I tend to make all my courses in either gpx.studio or more recently Gaia GPS, then import them to Garmin connect. You could export the course from Garmin connect, then drop into Gpx.studio and edit it there before re-importing.
