Right on Brandon ! So there's one reason I leave my gills to the very end...when I have thread straggles, I will hold the gills between my finger and thumb (out of the vice), while running the lighter across the hook quickly. When the gills are short, you can't get as good of a hold on it. Some may not agree, but that's what I do ;) (CaboHew) Cheers !

Hi. Nice tyong. I have a question. On tbe video you talk about gills, i think they are called seteae, and those help the chironomid to hold on a rock. So from tbat perspective, the fly is being tied upsidown? I mean hook eye is on tbe tail sode of this chironomid?
Thank you for watching! In lakes, the chironomids start off in the mud as bloodworms and mature into the pupa stage (which is what we are tying) they wiggle their way to the surface of the water to hatch. Their gills (or the head of the fly) lead the way during their ascent. So in this case, the bead is the head of the fly. Hope that helps explain it! Cheers
You should try using a thin UV cement for your first or second coat of hardener. The zap a gap doesn’t set properly or takes a long time to set without pressure contact whereas the UV sets up instantly allowing you to do your second security application immediately. My opinion only.

Nice flies! I was using the UNI Stretch for gills, but have been using UNI Floss more just because it's UV reflective. Makes me a bit more confident that it stands out that much more when your fishing deeper.
Wookie! Thanks for stopping by again. Good points, I will have to give that a try. How does it hold up after being saturated with water? Visibility stays strong?
If you add a tiny bit of zap a gap before you add your Holo you avoid the unraveling tendencies and the pressure from the holo sets the zap instantly.

Hi broken tippet. I like watching your videos and you do tie pretty well. Just as a suggestion, tie one fly of each color combo, keep the time short and sweet to hold viewer attention, and speed up any of the segments that make sense to do so. It may gain followers and unfinished views. Also, a using a rotary vise and half hitches would help. I’m staying tuned and thanks for your consideration.
