I never got to surf "Down Under"nor meet him, but to me, this guy, MP, was one of the most beautiful surf stylists I've ever seen! To me it was Micheal P, & Barry K, (BK). Those 2 are my favorites to watch, no doubt about it. RIP-ing in Heaven 🙏😔🌊 Oh yeah, Eddie Aikau too, of course!!!
That Winter I lived with Michael and his brother in Tweed Street at Kirra for a few months. Kirra was incredibly hollow and fast that day. We were having trouble just making the waves and he was doing cutbacks! We'd been surfing Snapper for a few days but as the swell dropped Michael dragged me out Kirra and we had two awesome surfs that morning!
RIP Michael, what you brought to surfing will always be remembered. Trust the wind is blowing, the swell is rising and the tubes are rolling in wherever you are now.
Lucky enough to have had the honor of sharing a session at Dbah one fine afternoon many, many years ago. Did very little surfing just watched MP do his thing. Never forget it after all these years. it was like watching an alien surf, beyond human. He was that good.
One of my biggest personal influences in my own surfing style when I was in my teens and early twenties. One of my favorite surfing still photos is the cutback at 1:23 where Mike releases some excess speed. The hair, the arms, the slug up on edge. Classic!
Keith Miller yeah I really like that cut back one of the greatest of all times if it's the same one I saw him surfing magazines if you like that one check out that young I think it's February or March 69 1969 cut back and sunset covered Surfer magazine with the extra fold out so page number 2 fold out for a big wide cut back I think you'll like it

I grew up on the goldy in the 70`s , and my mum used to take me to the stubbies contests , great old footage brought back some good memories.... nice work

Growing Up and seeing video and pictures of MP I would marvel at without really knowing who MP really was. Now that has gone I now Honour Him like A God of The Surf. As for me I don't even surf but appreciate the Legacy of Mp's Talent.

@PeadophileBeard I did see him in his prime, he used to intimidate his oponents on land and in the water, you should read the MP book if you want to hear some of the radical stuff he used to get up to.. Nah i dont think he invented the cutback but he did some wicked ones on those old single fins..

I'm reading the book right now "MP The Life of Michael Peterson" and it's an amazing story about this tragic, yet incredible surfer. RIP, MP !
