- Hey there! Thinking of getting a dutch driving license? Or just curious how difficult it REALLY is to obtain one?
Part one of this series of finally being able to drive in the Netherlands, I talk about how I (thankfully!) passed my first attempt at the theory examen. It wasn't easy, which is why I wanted to share with you my experience and how you can better prepare for it as well!
Here are the links I mentioned:
www.cbr.nl/ - to start your process
www.theoryhouse.nl/ - for the crash course
www.theorieexamen.nl/ - theory course
Hope you learn from this video, and good luck!!!
Cheers,

Part 2 of this video! I finally passed my practical exam! Find out here - czcams.com/video/X-gclQlhDi4/video.html
I honestly recommend doing a weekly class for 1-2hrs for the theory part, that way you can process that weeks information & ask questions or simulate a specific situation together within that class.
Gefeliciteerd! Thanks for inspiring me đ
Really great video! Thanks a lot Natasha!!
Youâre welcome! Hope it was helpful. :)
Congrats on passing the theory, hopefully you already passed the practical and got your Dutch drivers license. I just booked my theory exam three days ago and started heavy studying. Itâs in a week (couldnât be bothered waiting four months for the next free appointment lol), wish me luck!
Goodluck!! I already passed my practical, but it was a very long, painful process. I will be posting that vlog soon so hope you watch out for it :)
I newly got asylum in Netherlands. And one of my goal in first year to get a driver licence. so your video helps me a lot to know for getting a license. thanks đ
Glad I could help!
Congrats on passing the exams and for the nice video!
Thank you! :)
Thanks to your advice about the Dutch Theory exam I passed, just 2 weeks after watching your video!!! Really helpful advice, thank you so much for posting this video.
Really great to hear! Are you doing the practical next? I'm posting that one next!!
@@TheTravellingFoxes Yes, have had my first two lessons and hope to take my practical test in a few weeks. I'll look out for your next video!!!
Hi, Natasha! I'm also from Manila and now living in Amsterdam. So happy to discover your channel. Also taking my practical exam on the 4th of March! Good luck to us!! :) :)
Ah great!!! How is yours still pushing through? I had to postpone mine and itâs far away pa :(
@@TheTravellingFoxes Mine has been postponed twice already because of covid. But the one on the 4th is pushing through. It's been more than a year since I passed my theory exam. Inabot ng lockdown my practical lessons and exam :(
Thanks for the insight that was good info. Hope I get it before 2022..
dank je wel. super helpful
Hello Natasha, I'm also Filipina and came from Manila, I am so glad you passed the exam, Congrats! I am using the same website you shared , but I didn't take crash coarse, so far I am 92% in the website and can perfect or make only 1 mistake on mock test, I hope that's enough and pass the theory exam next week.
How did your exams go? I suggest you take at least 3-4 mock tests where you pass, to make you even more confident :)
Great video! Congrats on getting your theory đđ
With the level of the exams in the Netherlands, I'm amazed at the number of bad drivers I still encounter on the road. What kinds of bad driving situations did you encounter in Manila?
Thank you! Oh in Manila...donât even get me started! Hahaha! Jeepneys and buses feel like theyâre kings of the road, people switch lanes often, and thereâs just no efficient way to catch âtraffic offendersâ so thereâs almost no rules. Oh and we love to honk!
Well, not all drivers with dutch license have done their exams here. (Assuming all those who learn here are perfect) đ People from other EU countries (and also some outside EU) can just go to municipality office and switch license without exams.
@@sabrenpurba so sad but true!
Congrats. Taking your theory and practice exam in a test center near your residence used to be normal.
If you see danger sign with a white sign (onderbord) with the text "Wild Rooster". That sign is not in English... ;)
Don't watch for birds. It means cattle grid and is meant to ensure wildlife does not enter certain areas. You might have seen these at your Hoge Veluwe visit in or around the Park.
I think driving in Amsterdam or Utrecht can be hard. I really hate the roundabout near Kanaleneiland.
I had my test in Enschede in rush hour so that was easy. Getting stuck in a traffic jam.
We do not really practice mountain driving. Some steep ramps is all you can expect. Unless you are in Limburg... I had some training during harvesting in the country side.
But no training in big cities.
I found driving in Greece and Germany easy. I hate driving in Brussels or Antwerp. Belgium or France in general is ok. In the UK driving on the left was easy to get used to. Steep hills with a. underpowered small car was scary.
Thanks for the tips! I had more experience driving in big cities. But the NL and Europe driving hasnât prepared me for that đ
Congrats Natashia! I did the same, screenshot the mock up test and study while in the metro :P How was your practical exam?
Not yet done! :( itâs postponed soooo far away!
Thanks for the tips! Does the theory exam results expire after a certain time period if you don't get your license right after?
I agree with you 100 % , Because i have drived in the Philippines for 4 years. Especially in manila. There is no rule actually there, But the trafic really crazy over there but esier then here in Here:)
keep up with the vids
2:40 We have a saying in The Netherlands: With your license you are allowed on the road.. you actually learn driving in the next 50.000km you drive :).
Which is probably different if you already have been driving in the Phillipines for 10 years.
I am doing amazing with mock up tests but somehow in exam i fail. I m thinking to take 1 day course but they are all in dutch. Do u know any english courses?
Getting your drivers license nowadaysis so much harder than it used to be when I was 18. I had had 16 driving lessons when I took my exam. Theory and practical exam was linked in one appointment. First you took your theory exam and following that, when you had passed your theory exam, the practical exam. I only had to take one exam because I passed my theory and practical exam in one go. The total sum I spent on my drivers license was 475 guilders (in 1979). I todays money that would be 216 Euro.
Wow you were so lucky indeed!!
Actually the total questions in the theory exam are 65. The first part which is 25 question you allowed to make max 12 mistakes. The other 2 and 3 part, max mistakes 2 and 3
Hi kabayan May ask Lang ako about intersection, s priority line which one go first left side auto going straight or right side auto going left ? 2x n ako nag exam hazard & knowledge pass ko with flying colors but insight 6 mistake
Thanks
Very informing Natasha!
You are mentioning that you ''could in reality have exchanged your Philippine driver licence as your partner is highly skilled migrant.'' That your partner is a highly skilled migrant, does that have anything to do with your driver licence and the possibility to exchange yours? Philippines is not on the list on the website, so you can't exchange it without the exams right? They look at you as individual, and not if your partner can use the exemptions then so can you?
Hope you can clear this up! :)
Hello! Apparently the 30% ruling applies to family members too! I actually do not understand why, but if your partner is exempt then you can try to apply for the exchange as well. I have a Filipino friend who has done this! Hope this clears that up!
@@TheTravellingFoxes Thank you đ
May I ask, where I can buy that book?
In reality, you can acquire back you PH driver's license if you exchanged it for a dutch one. For other expats who has the 30% rule, you can save some euros and time from enrolling in a driving school and taking the exams by exchanging your driver's license. I also drove in the Philippines before coming to NL. Some of the rules are pretty much the same, like right of way, overtaking, priorities, etc. I only referred to the RDW website and the ANWB books for the rules and regulations here in NL, plus help of my colleagues and hubby. Anyway, it is always better to get to know the rules and regulations so you won't get a surprising letter from the CJIB.
if we exchange we don't need to take the driving test? I'm a eu citizen with a ph driving license
@@tibantravel3554 as long as u have a valid 30% tax rule, no need to take test and u can directly exchange ur ph driver's license
Hi im a Eu citizen with a filipino driving license. do i need to take the driving test to get a dutch license or just exchange it?
Interesting. Maybe you can try to go to Gemeente and ask? I know you can exchange it if you or your spouse is under the Highly Skilled Migrant visa. Not sure about your situation though :)

20 hours of lessons? Itll be closer to 40 on average. Funny, back in the day i also had to go to Leeuwarden for my theory exam. But less far from Groningen. I passed theory and practical first try. Yay!
Wow - good job you! I passed the practical on my third try đ
@@TheTravellingFoxes so you underestimated it a bit, maybeđ€Ș
How long does it takes de theory exam? I read 45 min to 60 min..
Yup! Around that I think! You can finish earlier but I wanted to review my answers before time ran out
How many lessons do you need for a manual car I mean in terms of practical??
That depends on you! I actually had to take around 40-45 lessons since I failed twice and had to do more lessons in order to pass :))
Heyy! Congratulations on passing the theory exam :) So I was wondering if you'd still recommend me to buy the book or should I just go with the online lessons? But if anyone wants to sell their book, I'm willing to buy it secondhand. Thankyou!!
Thank you! The book is nice to have so you can always review all your notes...but the online lessons are crucial! Good luck!
Dear Natasha, I really like the fact, that you are so responsible that you will not go on the Dutch road without a valid drivers license. Just exchanging your Phillipines license into a Dutch license does not automatically make you a Dutch driver. My compliments for doing a new Dutch exam!
Thank you so much!! Btw, I passed my practical and will be soon posting a vlog about that experience đ€
Would you like to advise me any famous school in Amsterdam for practical lessons???
Hey there! You can check out my latest vlog where I share my practical exam - czcams.com/video/X-gclQlhDi4/video.html
Is there a time limit between theory exam and practical exam?
Usually itâs a max of 10months validity but with COVID they extended it I believe! My practical is now schedule July 1st, and I passed my theory October last year!
@@TheTravellingFoxes , Thank youuu!
@@eghimayleny6906 1 year and 6 months after that its invalid* (anderhalf jaar) we say
How many driving lesson are u planning to take??
10! :) I've never driven manual so I needed more lessons!
Isnât the theory exam (CBR) something about 57/58âŹ
Perhaps! Apologies if I forgot exactly how much that cost.
I never drive in my life I'm 20 years old it's possible to do it at my age
Yes for sure!
@@TheTravellingFoxes thank you I'll try to do that in the summer
It was easy: 0 faults at theory exam, and practical exam also 1st time. Biggest tip i can give for theory exam: just learn the book and do some exam samples and don't overthink the question.
Wow đ€Ż
Donât be so picky with expensive Dutch nonsense.
Online its possible to buy a driver license in Poland.
In the Netherlands you can drive for hours without spotting any police and nobody will catch you.
eastern european drivers are the worst
Stupid suggestion and dangerous for all involved. Driver, passengers and other people on the road.
Here is another Dutch Perspective for ya: you'll have to make a decision: Do you want to be entirely on your own, and maybe get to know a few other expats, then by all means stick to English.
Do you want to mingle with the Dutch, get a good taste of True Dutch culture, and leave those other expats for what they are for a brief moment? By all means learn Dutch. Even though the vast majority of the Dutch population speaks more or less English, it really is Dutch which is the native language of The Netherlands. Dutch it is and Dutch it will be.
To the Dutch it is like this: OK you speak English, so you do not take the trouble to learn Dutch, so you must be temporary here and you must be on your way out soon. We (The Dutch) lost interest in this person.
Or: Hey well so nice of this foreigner to learn Dutch, he or she respects this country and its inhabitants and this person obviously wants to mingle with us: let's invite this person into our lives!
English is a foreign language to us Dutchies it is a way to talk to strangers whom want to stay stranger, or maybe to a person who really want's to learn Dutch but just arrived... Let there be no misconception about this: English is to talk to strangers and Dutch among friends! This is The Netherlands after all and our language is Dutch and absolutely not English, although to strangers we will talk English.
By choosing English as a language, you choose to stay a foreigner ! And so doors stay closed for you! Doors that will open for you when you speak Dutch ;-)
You are at least 28? Damn, I would not even sell you alcohol or cigarettes.....
Yes I'm 30 hehe
Goodluk trying yo pass this crap with a janked memory they add trick questions also which suk baalls
