The definition of the word "superbike" has been changing for a long time. The first time it was used was for the 1969 Honda CB750. The intent of the word "superbike" was to denote its exceptional performance, handling, and top speed when compared to the other bikes of its time which were nowhere close to it. In the current days, the actual definition of "Superbike" is used to describe the flagship 1000CC Supersports for each manufacturer. Like ZX10R for the Kawasaki, the R1 and R1M for Yamaha, the S1000RR and M1000RR from BMW, and so on. By actual definition, the Z900 is a middleweight sports naked. But since we in India mostly have 125-200cc small capacity bikes, the Z900 in comparison can be termed a superbike since the term itself is very loose and mouldable in the definition. For the common Indian public, however, anything with a fat tire and excessively loud exhaust is a superbike :P
