    The newest video in my editor reacts to series. This week I'm watching and reacting to Game of Thrones for the first time.
    Arya makes friends with Gendry. Tyrion tries to take control of the Small Council. Theon arrives at his home, Pyke, in order to persuade his father into helping Robb with the war. Jon tries to investigate Craster's secret.
    Nine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia.
    Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, the first of which is A Game of Thrones. The show premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011, and concluded on May 19, 2019, with 73 episodes broadcast over eight seasons.
    Set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, Game of Thrones has a large ensemble cast and follows several story arcs throughout the course of the show. The first major arc concerns the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros through a web of political conflicts among the noble families either vying to claim the throne or fighting for independence from whoever sits on it. The second focuses on the last descendant of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty, who has been exiled to Essos and is plotting to return and reclaim the throne. The third follows the Night's Watch, a military order defending the realm against threats from beyond Westeros' northern border.
    Game of Thrones attracted a record viewership on HBO and has a broad, active, and international fan base. Critics have praised the series for its acting, complex characters, story, scope, and production values, although its frequent use of nudity and violence (including sexual violence) generated controversy. The final season received significant criticism for its reduced length and creative decisions, with many considering it a disappointing conclusion. The series received 59 Primetime Emmy Awards, the most by a drama series, including Outstanding Drama Series in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019. Its other awards and nominations include three Hugo Awards for Best Dramatic Presentation, a Peabody Award, and five nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Drama.

    They should have named the show "THAT'S HIS SISTER??" given how many scenes get that reaction.

    When the bastards were being killed, the music played was the theme of the king, the one heard as Robert entered Winterfell in the first episode. That's how the show was giving away who gave the order. Then the music started to incorporate pieces of a theme that is associated with Littlefinger. Maybe he was the one who provided the information about the bastards.

    You were disappointed in Bronn for being a cutthroat... but you forgot that he was introduced to us as such, and it was made clear that he has no honor.

    Stannis has declared himself king, and any king can legitimise a bastard. So if he had a kid with Melisandre, he can just say "he's not a bastard anymore, this is a Baratheon and he's now my heir."

    Tyrion is one of the best
    he has a moral compass that a lot of people seem to lack.

    If they're bastards to the king they have a claim to the throne. It's not as strong as Stannis but they still have a claim.

    When Tyrion talks to Cercie about the wiping out of the Bastards she tells him a story about how Tommen (her younger son) had found a pregnant kitchen cat and was so excited about getting one of the babies. Excited he told Joffrey about it- who then demanded to see the cat. When Tommen shows him he pulled out a knife and cut it’s stomach open and started digging around for the babies. Tommen is TERRIFIED of his older brother & Cercie herself was shocked by his order to kill the children. She says how he was the sweetest baby, that he never cried, but that now SHE was scared of him because of his reaction when she slapped him. She thought he WAS going to have her killed. Admitted she has no control of him now & Tyrion asked her what she’d expected when she’d raised him as she had. No rules, he’s always right, can make up any story to make himself the ‘hero’ etc.

      Tyrion must have forgotten that she also raised Tommen and Myrcella. So count that as one of the many times Tyrion wasn't as smart as people think he is.

    Yeah, you start to learn the characters mostly eventually, but I'm sure there's people that were in the court at King's Landing that I never learned. Part of it is you're being fed information through a water hose and it's hard to gather yourself. IIRC one of the wiki websites (book or movie) had a feature you could set what episode you're on and read it and still avoid spoilers. Maybe someone can confirm.
    And I'm sure you've learned his name is Gendry. You're hearing it right. And as I understood their rules of succession from reading fansites, Stannis was next in line here. Faceblind guy was Craster.

    There's some rather big differences between "The Mad King" and "Joffrey" Aerys didn't start out mad, it wasn't his original 'nature', certain things happened that spiked his paranoia etc. Joffrey is cruel and sadistic by nature, it's not a 'madness' that has taken over him. The Cruel King, or The Tyrant King would probably be more fitting titles for him.

    Janos Slynt did not betray anyone. He obeyed the king, as was his job. Tyrion is now removing people loyal to the king and replacing them with people he pays.

    Tyrion shits on Cersei at every opportunity, and when she gets in a jab everyone thinks she is horrible. She is no different than anybody else in this show. A product of her environment.

    Your understanding of characters' true character is spot on. In fact, in the book, Cersei was the one who ordered the massacre. But Cersei also was the favorite character of the showrunners, so they tried to sanctify her whenever possible. She made their job really hard, but they improved her image a lot.

    • @markuscriticus8278
      @markuscriticus8278 Před 2 měsíci +1

      "True character" iot isn't mroe true because it hapened in the source material. The show does this all the time, they also didn't have Robert outright rape her like in the books.

    • @mimmo4762
      @mimmo4762 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@markuscriticus8278 it isn't. In fact, it's more true if it's more coherent with the character's actions, development and psychology, as proved by a reactor who, without even reading the books, understands things exactly as they were in the source material despite being shown completely different ones.

    Book fun facts!:
    The three in the cage are from the Black Cells(which is where Ned was imprisoned.) It's reserved for the worst criminals. Rorge of the books has no nose and his companion Biter is a massive pale and hairless abomination who is never far from Rorge(Rorge is, in semi canon material, said to be the person who raised Biter to fight rats and dogs in the pits of Flea Bottom, the bad part of Kings Landing.)
    The Dothraki rider, Rhakharo, is still alive in the books. This is one of many early kills for characters who still had a purpose. I never liked this change. Dany's oath of vengeance was in the previous book, as one of the girls she saved from rape, Eroeh, was immediately raped and murdered by the two Khal's who claimed the remnants of Drogo's khalasar out of spite for her.
    Book Cersei is completely to blame for the purge of the bastards, though its not so overt. Several bastards are out of her reach, so the baby Barra and a few others are the only ones who die. They tried to make her more sympathetic, so they made it Joffrey's plan. However, book Cersei did it not out of fearing they might be a threat, but just because they were Robert's children.
    Janos Slynt isn't the one who killed the baby, but one of his men, Allar Deem(who has a reputation for brutality)does. Slynt gives several possibilities, including Deem, to take his place as Commander and Tyrion sends all of them to the Wall(with instructions that Deem should be thrown overboard on the way). Bronn does not take command of the City Watch, but instead it is taken by Ser Jacelyn Bywater, a knight who lost his hand during the siege of Pyke, who is recommended by Varys and proves to be loyal and a good friend to Tyrion.
