- he Taste of Things (French: La Passion de Dodin Bouffant, lit. 'The Passion of Dodin Bouffant'), previously titled The Pot-au-Feu, is a 2023 French historical romantic drama film written and directed by Trần Anh Hùng starring Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel.
Set in 1889, it depicts a romance between a cook and the gourmet she works for. The character of the gourmet is based on Dodin-Bouffant, created by Swiss author Marcel Rouff in his 1924 novel La Vie et la passion de Dodin-Bouffant, gourmet (The Passionate Epicure).
The film premiered on 24 May 2023 at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, and was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or in its main competition section, where Tran Anh Hung won the Best Director award. It was released in France on 8 November 2023. The film was chosen as the French entry for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards.

I knew nothing about this movie being made and now I can't wait to see it as someone who spent most of my life working in kitchens and watching The Food Network as a kid. Looks gorgeous!

I’m so happy that you liked this movie so much. I did as well. Unlike you I’m not a fan of period movies but this movie could have been filmed anytime and anywhere. I am a foodie though and the opening sequence was incredible. Although no dialogue the camera work was exquisite! The cinematography throughout was a work of art. The performances were amazing and the story had me interested the entire time. It’s such a quiet movie that I don’t think everyone will like it but I really enjoy a slice of life movie done well and this one really was impressive.
I havent stopped thinking about it since I watched it. I agree with everything you said. I definitely don't see it being for everyone, but I hope people that do see it will like it. It deserves a lot more love!
