- Bernadette performing "Sing Me a Song", the Dutch entry at the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest.
Undoubtedly one of the highlights of a very strong year, a truly marvelous, original number with simple but effective lyrics and a spot-on performance from Bernadette (who bears an uncanny resemblance to a young Michelle Pfeiffer!). Kudos must also go to the backing vocalists, who are largely responsible for the SOARING climax of the song, and among which one can spot three-times entrant Sandra Reemer. And since we're on the subject of Eurovision connections, the song's composer, Piet Souer, was the guitarist who accompanied Lenny Kuhr in the 1969 Dutch entry (and one of the four joint-winners that year) "De Troubadour" - which, incidentally, is one of my all-time favorites at the contest. I guess this kind of explains why I like this one so much... :-) - Hudba

My favourite Eurovision song/performance of all time. I had an audio cassette recording of this from BBC Radio 2 but it got lost only a couple of years ago. Thanks for posting this video. It's brilliant. I never thought I'd see this again.
This song is just SO Eurovision. I actually have fragmental memories of it from my childhood. I was five and I think my earliest Eurovision memories are from 1983.
As we´re on the subject, this was definitely top 3 IMO. And thanks T for the connection with De Troubadour - of course another Dutch all time great.
Rip : Sandra Reemer (17 October 1950 - 6 June 2017) who represented the Netherlands three times , 1972, 1976 & 1979, and sang backing vocals (uncredited) on Sing Me A Song by Bernadette in 1983

Dammit 1983. If only this field could have been dispersed throughout the '80's we would have had a great winner every year. Instead we got all the great songs in one year.

That was indeed one of the highlights of that year in my opinion. A magical song which Bernadette absolutely nails with her almost operatic vocal. Great harmony and orhcestration. A fab song indeed.

Yes, indeed, 7th place - while totally respectable - sounds too low for such a song. On the other hand, it was a very strong year as I've said, and I personally have no beef against any of the top-6 (well, except maybe Yugoslavia, which however is still a catchy and uplifting number).

Like so many have already said: this year was excellent, with a lot of great songs. Only 1 song I really didn't like, which was the winner. Pity that.
