Anyone who worked on earlier Yamaha's would know about 'the fix'. Personally, I think Yamaha should have learned by now the clutch design damper is pretty crap. It's been an issue since the late 1960's with the TX/XS 650's. Too late now but it's better to make some Delrin rods about 0.020"~0.030" (0.5~0.7mm) longer than the fully compressed spring and fit them inside the springs. With the buttons taking up the space, the springs will eventually fail with bits of spring steel flying around.. I forget if it was the 350 YPVS or the earlier RD 350 that was so bad Yamaha sent dealers repair kits for brand new bikes as the broken springs could lock the primary drive when they failed. (someone screwed up the heat treatment) The repair kit used flat head Allen bolts instead of re-riveting. Trying to compete with Honda led to some horrible factory 'mistakes' during production
Very good I have got exactly the same thing to repair (the rivets) though the basket has had the cush springs disabled by welding which probably caused the rivets to break. The engine that its out of is used in a speedway side car racing setup so lots of traction and abuse I havent taken it apart yet but may make the rivets bigger.
Years ago, on the old gs1000 and gsx1100, where those springs are, we took them out and replaced them with a piece of square Aluminium block. Bit harsher on the take off, very direct, but bullet proof
I just sent my KZ1000 outer clutch basket to ape in Rosamond California to do the heavy duty springs and put her back together so 175 bucks and hopefully I get it back this week

Nice video! I have a question, if you can reply me it would be awesome! Can a clutch basket creates vibrations at any RPMs? I hear some sounds from clutch, light sounds... But my bike vibrates alot, in handlebars, seat, footpegs... I changed the oil, plugs, chain and sprokets, i checked the tires! The vibrations goes away while i'm pulling the clutch at any speed... If the clutch cause vibrations, can you explain me, why? Are the springs behind the clutch?
Good video ... And do you have vibrations when descending from revolutions at about 5 thousand? I have them after using the sleeves ... Let me know how it is with you ...
Why didn't you just get naw spring made? and just a tip for next time make a tool with 3 posts that stick up, put the basket in a press with the rivets on the 3 posts load the bell washer with the press then pean the rivets over
The springs are fatigued and should be replaced in my humble opinion. I have no doubt these springs can be obtained if you search online not necessarily for motorbike but for press tool release. Notwithstanding that your work is great to watch thank you
Hi, I also regenerated in this way. I also made extra washers and after some time slack and crackling appeared again, sometimes the springs would break. Generally, there must be new springs of similar weight because with washers we already have other rotating masses and the springs do not fulfill their role as a vibration damper at idle speed and some kind of shock absorber when connecting and disconnecting the clutch, and when accelerating and braking the engine.
