    That's a great video! I am a Navy trained electronics technician with 40+ years in nuclear power. Your explanation of terms, definitions, relationships, and theory (how it really works) was spot on perfect - basic enough for a novice and entertaining enough for seasoned veterans (aka old farts) like me. 👍👍👍

    Todd, you keep on about a 7 pin connector between the tow vehicle and the RV. Not all RVs have a 7 pin connector. One trailer that we had, had a 9 pin connector. We used to carry a spare 9 pin connector just in case that we damaged the one that was in use, as 9 pin connectors were as rare as HEN's TEETH!
    Yes, we have been RVing for quite a while. I think that we got our first RV in about 1978. The smallest RV that we had was 26' long, and all the RVs since then have been 30' long. It was a Vacationair, that is no longer in production. It included all the usual suspects, as well as a connection for the 3-way fridge, and a connection for the backup lights. The 3-way fridge ran on propane, 12 volt DC and 120 AC. One trouble with that system, was that you NEVER wanted to run the fridge on 12 volt DC when connected to a tow vehicle that was not running, because as you might imagine, it would drain the tow vehicle battery right along with the house batteries in short order. Thankfully, the ONE time I did that, I had a generator mounted at the back of our RV and was able to recharge the batteries, after a very long charging cycle.

    Thanks for explaining electricity in a simple form I went to RVTI in Indiana and the teacher did not explain like this we had to just read the book and you should understand. Thanks again good video have a great day

    I just got hired at Blue Compass RV as new Tech. I have built all kinds of things as a hobby and am so excited to start this training as most of what I know has been self taught. Todd's training looks great and I will be coming to these classes too. I have been watching your videos prepping for the courses.

    this is the 1st video of yours I have viewed. you had me at thank you. Some of the best advise I have ever gotten or given. Always say thank you first. I teach continuing education CEUS for elevator technicians and inspectors in North America and the Caribbean. If you're from the south, we may be related lol

    I wish I would have come up with the cross arm when I was teaching Basic Electric theory (army AIT). But I did come up with the acronym “POEM”
    for classes for fire extinguishers. Paper,Oil,Electric,Metal. POEM

    Awesome video, I've worked manufacturing all my life majority electrical wiring machines and building electrical panels with 24dc up to 480ac. The one thing people don't realize on a 50 amp rig is that it's actually 2 120 volt legs coming in and that the breaker panel is split as is the wiring.
    Thanks for the battery tip that's one I would never have thought of and hope I never need but good to know.

    I watched a few of your videos today. But, it was this one that got me to subscribe. I am a new RV owner. I have just over 1 month before my first scheduled trip. I'm nervous. My wife and kids are depending on me. Maybe i should take your course.

      At the minimum, I’d take the RVTchechcourse.com home study. These are homes on wheels and so many things can ruin a trip.

    Great delivery, bought the course, but electrons barely move down the wire and the energy is instead carried by the fields around the wires (which are set up by the charges on the protons and electrons)!! It's VERY far from the pressure theory but use it if it helps 101ers. Cheers!

    Thanks, informative presentation. Can you tell me why a single phase is limited to 30 amp. If 50 amp is two 50 amp legs. Why can't a single be 50. Thanks

      Because there is only 1 neutral line. 50 amp has 2 hots ht only 1 neutral back. So the electricity has to be in split phase (249) so we don’t overload the neutral line.

    Yes, this past weekend I had to back into my spot while half a dozen folks at a campsite across from me sat at their fire ring having nothing else to look at than me backing in my trailer (though I did a fantastic job, if I say so myself!)
    Yes, I already admit/know that RV electrical is "weird".
    Yes, I AM staring at the computer monitor, not giving you an answer when you ask if I agree that there's a starter battery in my towable.
    Am I actually there in front of you??

      @@NationalRVTrainingAcademy And now that I've finished ... I want more! I am particularly interested in the differences in between a DC system and an AC system. I live with and work (at least on paper) with AC systems. Why aren't there wire insulation color standards?? And why must I guess which line is positive vs neutral? DC is weird. :D
