    If I had a time machine, I'd definitely make a point of going back with a sack of gold coins and asking CPE to write loads more, especially in minor keys. His music is so delightfully alive and full of surprising harmonic twists. His dad was pretty clever too.

    The sound of the flute is out of this world, and as much within, with its breathy beauty. The whole composition is one of remarkable creative freshness, nothing contrived, reworked, or repeated, a sense of an adrenalin rush in slow time, to Bach's satisfaction.

    This concerto is archetypal. No one has commented, for years, on this particular performance. Will anyone read me?
    As a flutist and connoisseur of the Settecento, I aver that the current musical market gets something right: This concerto is a masterpiece. Just look at how many performances are posted on You Tube, and of a very difficult work! Modern instruments? Antique instruments? Both? You may choose, Dear Listener!
    All that said, I am impressed by how well the soloist realizes difficult music, well accompanied. AND I SAY ANEW: Bravo!

    I think this is my favorite interpretation of this. That last movement is simply amazing.

    Very baroque-sounding for CPE Bach. Last movement reminds me of Vivaldi. Amazing work.

      Kreator Krazy
      You’re quite right, he would have been a great teacher.
      The odd thing about it however, is that there is rather less evidence than you might expect that he was the teacher in the the music of any of his composer children - a bit in WF and CPE, but virtually none in JCF or JC.

    'Tis a sad commentary about the collapse of Western civilisation that this video only has 632 views, and only 12 likes.

      74k views now and 600 likes, pretty good I'd say. This flute concerto has risen in popularity over the years and I'm glad it has. It's very underrated.

    Well said mmbmbmbmb (hmm..sounds like someone performing cunnilingus to me..) delightful painting of a windy day and a rather splendid slice of music to go with it. There is only one thing worse than an itchy bum for a man with no arms and that is of course free fall parachuting.

    Wrong :) H.425 is the harpsichord concerto. H.484.1 is the flute concerto version. (Not exactly the same work; as usual with Bach, the solo part has been changed to suit the instrument and iirc the accompaniment has probably been changed to reflect the new solo part...)

    Why is this is in C# minor?

    • @GlenShannon
      @GlenShannon Před 5 lety +2

      To further explain: It's in D minor but at A=415Hz, a half-step lower than modern tuning which is A=440. Any period-instrument orchestra will likely be at 415 (or lower still, 392 if it's French Baroque- a whole step lower than modern tuning); 430 is another tuning, for music like Mozart but I don't know a lot about that one except in the real world it wasn't really standardized until modern times.

    Erstaunlich wieviel schlechtes Deutsch, zu deutscher Musik hier abgelassen wird.
