    …All of the tracks I shared from the 1986 and 1987 releases were heavily rotated on 94Q, with Elektric City ’86 remaining my favorite with the original lineup with Scott Henderson and Carlos Rios on guitars, along with Dave Weckl on Yamaha Drums and John Patitucci on Basses…
    …Of course, I originally got into to Chick’s playing in Return To Forever in the late 70s _(namely the song spain)_ but as I got introduced to synths during the 80s, his Elektric Band albums on GRP remain my favorite works of his to date…
    …In these albums Chick played many great synths, including some I play myself including the Yamaha SY77/99, TX816 rack, Yamaha KX88, Oberheim, Fairlight, Kurzweil, Yamaha KX-5 “keytar”, Fender Rhodes, Mini Moog…and so on. Simply put, one of the most prolific jazz keyboardists of all time, whose musical inspiration/influence will live forever!

    Love Chick’s Electric Band grooves and compositions. I got to see this band in Washington DC in 1987 at a small venue. Frank Gambale on guitar had just joined them.
    At this particular venue, the “ back up” band for Chick was Allan Holdsworth’s band featuring his “ Road Games” and “ Metal Fatigue “ material! WOW what a night of music.... stunning.

      Frank really added a whole new dimension with his signature sweep shreds. My favorite performance of Chick Corea is with with Jamie Glasier on guitar in Japan in 1986 'Live Under The Sky' '86. They perform Rumble just as tight as the studio recording, which truly showcases the Elektric Band's musicianship

    HAIL CHICK!!! These are my top 3 Chick albums too. May he rest in peace! I love your track picks too. Illusions, No Zone and Time Track are three of my very favorite Chick compositions. Just incredible!

    • @KJCMuzique
      @KJCMuzique  Před 3 lety +2

      I know, No Zone was the most bizarre, unique, cool, state of the art-sounding track when I first heard it on 94Q in 1986, with Dave Weckl playing those crazy loud Simmons electronic drums, and Chick playing that playing those funky ep chords on the KX88, blew me away then...and still resonates deeply with me today.

    • @dark_falz
      @dark_falz Před 3 lety +2

      @@KJCMuzique you probably know this already, but for other interested parties, the version of No Zone in their Bern Jazz Festival 1986 performance is mind blowing. Just amazing! The full concert is available on CZcams too... (although it's been taken down a time or two over the years!)

    • @KJCMuzique
      @KJCMuzique  Před 3 lety +3

      @@dark_falz That is another amazing performance, I have several of their live videos in my favorites playlist from over the years, I really enjoy Eric Marienthal and Frank Potenza's contribution to the band from '87 onward. I used to have a tape recorded off of 94Q in '86 where host Russ Davis was doing a special focus on Chick Corea's Elektric Band debut LP, he played all of the cuts I shared here, and had some nice commentary and even a live interview with Chick on the show! But unfortunately, when I went back through all the tapes to capture them for the last 94Q upload I did, I could not find that particular tape. I seem to have lost it along with a few others, perhaps when I moved years ago. I was hoping to share that rare 94Q tape gem as a tribute to Chick, but I made this video instead.

      I know, Charged Particle to me is the #1 track off that album, unbelievable musicianship. Love the opening chord progressions he plays on the Yamaha SY99, sounds like something epic about to go down, perfect song for a marathon! Also, the gated reverb on those Yamaha Drums makes them sound enormous
