You'll never hear a more beautiful version of this song and it's being played by a ninety year old man in a wheelchair.
Have you heard Michael Jackson’s version?
@@michaelacquah-allotey1615 That one is beautiful as well
@@davidcadwallader434 ohhhh I do know Nat King Cole’s version! I just loved the arrangement on Michael’s own better, makes use of the orchestra aspect of Nat’s arrangement as well as more modern instruments.
This man has so much heart in his performance everytime i hear him play this song i shed a 😢
Same here.
I just lost my dog today - I had to put her down. She was such a good girl and then I listened to Toots and I started to cry because it was so hard and I miss her already. Thank you Toots.
Nobody could improvise like TOOTS. The passion of his playing brings joy and happiness to all.
He's the greatest. How he solos is straight from the source the heart the soul I don't know. But he can touch you on a very deep level.
His body may have passed but his music will live for ever..
A maï Toots ! Chapeau Monsieur !
Bloody incomparable. He would have hit the century mark last April.
I would have tears for each note you played! Be in peace! The universe also deserves your presence! Thank you so much!
Thanks-for the wonderfull music Toots
There ain't a lot of people out there that still perform at 90+ years of age and still have enough wind in his lungs to play a physically demanding instrument such as the harmonica. What a strong old man he is, and one of the greatest instrumentalist of all time!
He loved us with his gift of music. So we love him back. RIP as we continue to listen, Toots.
👍🙂Toots was a total LEGEND!!!!! R.I.P. 😢 "Hauntingly beautiful".
Thank God for CZcams, CD/DVD's, tape recordings etc. to allow musicians such as Toots Thielemans never to die but to live on for future lovers of good music!
Amen to that!
Agree totally!
Well said Mr. Gross. I'm 83 and in relatively good shape. I admit that music like this has a great deal to do with how healthy I am at this time in my life. Stress is so rough on we humans and what better way to find relief than the music performed by Toots and others with similar class and style.
Éste Caballero fué un gran músico. En esta melodía trasmite una gran Tristeza. Un gran abrazo dónde esté. Me recuerda a mi Padre Terrenal. Hasta muy pronto.
The best harmonica player these ears have ever heard.
John Brackett Yes, he's truly an extraordinary harp player. He. Tommy Reilly, and Larry Adler, who are both no longer with us, are my two second favourites of all times. Toots, of course, is number one.
The planet
Sonny Boy Williamson.
THIS SONG MAKES YOU CRY WHEN IT SAYS SMILE ...
Holy freaking schmokes! 90 at the time of this recording. Looking ragged, featuring all the facial signs of old age, BUT THE MIND and the MUSICAL SENSITIVITY -- I would happily die at that proud age of 94 (this past Sunday) if that were the last notes in my brain before ............................
This is the most moving version I have ever heard and has always been one of my favorite songs. Toots brought tears to my eyes as I smiled. What a gifted artist!
How beautiful and emotional. A genius on the harmonica and wonderful orchestral backup. I had the chance to see Toots and his quartet live in Hartford, Ct years ago - Amazing!
my bleeding heart is grinning from ear to ear Toots, thank you
Marcela, beautifully stated.
I adore this gentleman's artistry...so blessed to still have these prescious videos of his amazing performances.
Thank you Mr. Thielemans for making us dream so much during all these years ...
Age hasn't changed his creative genius on the chromatic harmonica.
He is undoubtedly the greatest harmonica player the world has ever known, especially in the jazz field.
@DeGrate-bb5bovery subjective. I would not rule out Larry Adler, as a harmonica player myself I thought Larry was a genius.
Also , how could one rule out Stevie Wonder.
R.I.P. Toots
As I am sure you will; you brightened so many lifes
Thanks
Bravo monsieur
kippenvel...goosebumps...master Toots..thx..
I have always loved this song. Beautifully done !!!!
Gracias a nuestro Grande Toots !!!
He lived always in my heart.
Your music is forever in the world.
I.m missing you and i love.
if you smile through your fear and sorrow, smile and maybe tomorrow... you'll see the sun come shining trhough... for you.
R.I.P Toots!
wereldster!
beautiful
+Steven Higgs he was just awesome... and as a 16 year old Belgian girl, Im proud to say that I loved his music.
you're an old soul then, glad you appreciate his music. I posted several of my favorite clips on my Facebook page. His contribution to the film score of John Williams' "The Sugarland Express," Billy Joel's song "Leave a Tender Moment Alone" and to the TV show "Sesame Street" -- all etched in my ears for decades. Hugs, Alexia, we lost a legend today :-(
alexia Janssen do you sing or play an instrument?
+Steven Higgs I sing but Im far from a profesional haha
Elegant. Haunting. Masterful cover of a great standard. Play on, Toots, in that great jazz club across the universe.
"Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you"
Great melancholy melody...and Toots will always be the greatest on the mouth harp.
One could listen to this forever, close your eyes ad dream and hear such beauty within. Many thanks for doing this. Anna
We miss you already
We have all just witness what is true greatness. Thank you Mr. Thielemans for doing your part to help save and tame mankind with your gift and talent. It's artists such as yourself in which the reasons I can put up and tolerate the crappy moments life has to offer. Everyone be careful out there...
Great comment because of its stark truth.

Thank you for this stunning music. I have been enjoying Toots since the 60's, and feel that his playing only improves with time. This song can be very emotional if played right, and toots totally delivers the goods. There will never be another like him.
My childhood friend, the great Jaco Pastorius, truly loved Toots Thieleman. It is thanks to the younger man that I know what a great musician the older one was.
TOOTS THIELEMAN, (R.I.P.) DESDE CARACAS, VENEZUELA. GRACIAS POR TU ENCANTO Y TU MARAVILLOSA MUSICA. ALLA EN EL MAS ALLA ESTARA DIOSTODOPODEROSO Y LOS ANGELES DISFRUTANDO DE TUS MELODIAS. BYE...

My Idol, you gave me so much. Love forever!
V.I.F Toots! Tacka för alla toner du gav oss.....
There are some people in this world who are "one of a kind" types. Toots Thielemans was one of those unique people. He was the best and the only. A legend for over half a century. He played on every great movie score, and every great album. I asked him once after a gig, if he ever 'retired' would there be another harmonica player coming up to fill in for him? He mentioned a couple of young players he knew. This made me feel good and bad at the same time, since no one could fill his shoes, yet after he's gone, there was someone continuing in his footsteps.
Thank you Mr Thielemans for all the music and joy you gave this planet, and now The heavens can listen to the music also. RIP God Bless
His music will live forever. I have already passed along my love for Toots Thielemans and his music to my daughter. Thank you, Toots. Rest in peace.

God Bless you Toots! 92 Years and still touching my heart in many ways ever since the first time I hear you play as a little child in the late 70's.

This is what life is all about. Thank you so much
What could possibly be a way for the soul to sing than the harmonica? And no one could do it better.
It made me cry. Can't believe how beautiful that is. May I grow old and be able to share the love that this man is sharing with his instrument.
Will never ever get tired of listening to you TOOTS --NEVER. I will play you all day and it is enough for me. I love you Toots.

Speechless I am. Perfection. Makes me cry
I will never forget you master...never!!
Thank you, you always made us smile. . .
