- Hey beautiful! Originally this was just suppose to be a video of my first experience with a tangle teezer, but it ended up being a comparison video instead. I am so shook at the results I got and I am so glad that I took the time out to compare the tangle teezer to the denman brush because I had no idea I was losing so much hair. What do you use to detangle your hair?
Thank you so much for your endless support! Be sure to subscribe to my channel and become apart of the family! Xoxo

girl, let me even think about brushing my 4c hair dry...
imma be bald by the next day.
Jada Janae lmaoooo samee 😂
Jada Janae 😂💯
😹😹😹😹
😂😂😂
😂
It probably hurt because section was too big. Half the section and try a quick finger detangling first.
MsNaturale Michelle I think she’s just tender headed. Either that or my scalp is numb lol! She flinched at little pulls. My sister does that when she does her hair
@@sheenab1927 yeah I think so too
Finger detangling is so underrated yo. You got to have the patience but it's so worth it.
you're right
Yea first you put some conditioner then you massage in then finger comb then use a wide tooth comb then use a brush, works for me
Never brush or comb 4c hair unless wet and with product. I only use the brush with conditioner in my hair in the shower. When the package says dry they are talking about bone straight hair def not 4c hair
Makes sense.
MsHoneyFly11 It isn't a law on how to comb/brush hair. Did you write on the package to know this?! 🤔
Shanny H she’s just saying what logical as all, brushing dry 4c hair will take it out obviously
Charli3 11 If she didn't personally tell you that, dont tag me talking for someone else! Have a good 1
Shanny H lol ima do whatever I want to do and talk for whoever I want to and do it all over again just because you wouldn’t want me to
Okay sis you should detangle with the tangle teaser and define with the denman it’s what I do
As well as the fact that, you shed 100-150
strands of hair a day☺
Exactly what I was thinking
But for me finger detangling makes my hair more defined
So true bc the denman is for styling brush
@@onikafanatic LMAO
not gone lie... but the brush legit look like a computer mouse
😂
You are my hero 🤣🤣🤣
Glad someone finally said it
What kind of lashes are those? Its all I could focus on.
Same.
I know right they are so cuteeee
PoeticCurls she has absolutely beautiful eyes!
stella koko lashes
Saudia Finley THANKS!
The second you start struggling to detangle your hair, add more water and moisturizer for more slip. More slip = Less Breakage
Most people detangle wrong with the denman. The way she was detangling with is the way you smooth your hair after detangling. To detangle with the denman you're suppose to hold it vertically, the glamtwinz made a video about it. I started loosing less hair doing it that way.
I was going To write the same thing you are supposed to use it vertically for definition and Horozontal to tangle
really????? omg
Took the words right out of my mouth! I’m glad you typed it. I’ve notice a lot of people detangle incorrectly.
I think I said that wrong but I hope yall get it. Vertical is to detangle. Watch the glamtwinz
I cannot with the denman. It just rips out my hair. I tried using it the way the Twins say to. I felt like i lost too much hair. And here she was using it both ways.
You are so freakin BEAUTIFUL!
Honey I bought 3 of those from Family Dollar at about $2 each. I got it from my daughter 4c Thick hair. Its amazing!!!! Plus she's NOT CRYING ANYMORE!!!
Sharee Walls yes !!!! They also sell them ar The DOLLAR TREE!!!! For $1.00!!!!
What she said...these brushes don't need to be super expensive to work
Is it a knock off? What’s it called
which one?
@@butterification lucky!! I've never seen them at my local Dollar Trees 😭 I asked my friend to get me a Tangle Teezer for my bday but it still hasn't shipped! It's almost been a month
Just wanted to let you know that you are the one that inspired me to go natural. I can honestly admit I always thought 4C hair was a mess and have spent my whole life relaxing and getting blowouts. I saw your video and I saw how gorgeous your hair was and I stopped straightening that month. I'm 6 months in and I love my texture and will never go back. Thanks, sis!
Maybe majority of the shedding is due to your ends needing to cut.
Ilonka Elskamp when my ends need to cut I shed like crazy
@Ilonka Elskamp split ends travel. Let it go before you need to cut off even more . Itll grow back anyways. Plus it will be healthy
@Ilonka Elskamp no problem love. I've been there and pretty much had the same thought. I ended up having to big chop
@Ilonka Elskamp Its ok sometimes we all need a little push even if it's from a stranger. Dont fret as long as your hair is healthy and you're giving it what it needs you'll reach your goal soon. Good luck with your hair journey ❤😊
yall lowkey got me out here ready to let go of these raggedy ends *sigh! wish me much needed luck!
Hi Lynda I stopped using my Denman because it was taking out my hair. I was informed that a Denman brush is a styling brush not a detangling brush which is why the Denman pops your curls like that. The tangle teaser actually detangle- I know...mind blown :)
Thisss the Tangle Teezer is no suppose to define curls
I don't use any brushes on my natural hair. Brushes take out my hair. I use a wide tooth comb primarily. Sometimes I use a rattail comb for my edges and the very tips of my ends.
I detangle dry to damp (spray) with apple cider vinegar and spring water mixture. Thereafter, 4 parts and detangle each section with widetooth comb.
Yep
Wide tooth combs be hurting i cant do it😭
what if you used the tangle teaser to de tangle and then used the denman brush to get your beautiful curls back. idk if it would work but worth a try for how gentle the tangle teaser was right?
Chloe Lewis that’s what I do
Your hair length is goals😍
I no I'm jealous... Mine is just above my shoulders wbu
Yvette Da Costa mine is about bra strap length
ShA'quisha〈3 ya 💜💜💜
Your name is so pretty
Remove every other row in the denman brush for easier detangling and less breakage.
4C hair cannot be detangled by anything without moisturizing! LOL I don't care what the package says. Your hair is beautiful.
I finger detangle before I use any tool. I have a tangle teezer but I use that in smaller sections and while I'm in the shower. For the denman brush I make out every other column of bristle (learned that from naptrual85 in one of her older videos) but definitely when I use smaller sections (with either tool) I don't get as much shedding be or hair loss.
I have another denman brush with some of the column's pulled out, but that turned out to be a pain in the butt for me.
@@xolyndajay how so?
THANK YOU! I was cringing for a sister.
I just recently started finger detailing before I used tools as well. And it cut down on tyre amount of hair that I lose on wash day. It's been a life saver.
Afro Jazz
Because the bristles are closer together and at different lengths, it will pull or collect more of your fallen hair much easier while detangling... I love your hair! ❤️
Baby that's too much hair in both of those brushes. Please just finger detail on wet hair with product!
I agree.
maybe she sheds alot. It looked like alot to me but honestly I finger detangle and still lose more than that every week. Wish I didn't. I see girls on here pulling 3 strands off showing what they shed but 4 some of us we can't even help it.
@@erikaneal1472 I lose that much with my fingers, too. Always have and I have a lot of hair...maybe the number of hair follicles a person has effects this? My hair is thick and pretty healthy so I don't fret.
@@ddmcfadden yea even when I do tea rinses I still shed the same. It's still alot of hair on my head so I try not 2 worry like I use to.
you generally lose around 50-100 strands every day naturally. it normally accumulates in 4c hair because it is so dense compared to straight hair.
Wow!! I would have never thought!! I still don’t know if I can get past the sound.
What's the name of the song
You should try the one they designed specifically “thick and curly” hair! Aka us kinker textures lol. The brisltes are longer, so it makes detangling even easier.
Do you have a link or a name for it or where to get it from
Taylor Ware name please?
Just Google TANGLE
TEEZER , Tee Tee J.
Yep thats the one i use! They sell it online on Sephora.
I'm going to buy that one now that I love the regular one
no wait i really thought a black woman made it too , youre not alone.
We have had these detanglers for years here in Africa .No way it is a new invention,
detangler brushes have been everywhere we even had them when i was a kid its just been put into a model
@@lex2704 I wish I had these as a child 😭
Evrery hair strand grows for a cycle of 3 to 7 years and then falls. And 3 months later a new hair strand replaces it. In average an afro hair strand grows for 3 years ( for women). Naturally fallen hair comes out with a white round head. Try to find it at one of the ends of the strand to see if it is a naturally fallen hair that has ended its growth cycle
I’ve always shed a lot of hair. I don’t necessarily have a breakage problem but shed hair can CAUSE breakage
I switched from my tangle terser back to my denman because I noticed small little hairs in the brush and around the area I would detangle that I didn’t see with my denman. It was obviously breaking my hair.
Pranita N
It’s probably not true
That’s a lot of length! 😍 I definitely would have parted in smaller sections though...
You can get the Dollar Tree version. They work just as well, save your coins!
Lol I was wondering if anybody else knew that because I got one from Dollar Tree and trust it works just as good.
mzgynx I was thinking the same! I bought it a few weeks ago and it’s amazing
Right! I love the one I have😁
Dollar tree version of what. Dollar tree version of tangle teaser of denim brush?
@@Fatima-bh5sq the tangle teaser
You can use the Red by Kiss Professional Easy Grip Detangle Brush. It's just like the Tangle Teezer but a lot bigger
I love the Denman brush for definition, but don't use it for detangling at all. I use the Felicia Leatherwood brush ,which is amazing. However, despite tool, hair has to be very moisturized.
Nikita Scott that comb is expensive asf.
I use the knock off of that brush, called the horse brush or something. Bought it for a few bucks. I mainly use my seamless comb. Hercules. One side has fine tooth, the other side, this pointy wide tooth. Its less to do with the tool though, type 4 hair chicks need to be using a cream moisturizer under hair grease, if they want to stop having friction that causes breakage. I never have these issues on my 4c hair anymore. I LCG once a week. Tea water, soft and beautiful botanicals hair masque, and blue magic indian hemp. Sometimes I add other oils over the grease, but I don't need it. I never get matting. Ever. I also learned you do not need to wash your hair everytime you moisturize it(LCG). My wash day is 1-2 months. I retain so much length when I learned this. I used to get matting every 5 days. Now I just don't get it. At all. shed hair slides out. And it looks white when I apply it, but the next day its not, nor does it feel greasy. Also my 4c hair coils from the scalp to the tip and my edges have filled in. I band my hair in 4 sections, secure the back 2 sections in onthemselves into 2 mini buns. Then attatch the two front sections to the back. Result is 2 fake cornrolls. Then silk durag and wig cap and wig. I retain tons of length this way.
Nikita Scott I love love love my Felicia Leatherwood brush. I’ve had it for years. 💁🏾♀️
tsuyu asui it’s $14
Yessss !!!!! Completely agreee
I've tried both. The tangle teaser is good but has been known to cause split ends. Try the Denman brush with fewer rows (like 5) or modify your Denman brush by removing every other row. Your skin looks lovely by the way.
I LOVE my Tangle Teezer!!!
Note for the Denman: when detangling, the brush should be held straight up and down vs sideways. Hope this helps someone
i ditched any type of comb/brush and stick to finger detailing. takes longer but definitely not ripping out any unnecessary hairs
I always thought that the Denman brush was more of a styling brush, meant to be used after detangling anyway. As you mentioned, it's really good at clumping curls for wash-n-go.
Girl, you are the epitome of a beautiful black woman! Woman period! Lol. Hair goals!!! 🙌🏽
Try smaller sections with hair saturated with conditioner you loose less hair with Tangle Teezer. I don't use mine anymore too many split ends. I have 4c fine strands mid-back hair. I think the Tangle Teezer causes less damage on those with coarser strands. Usually the damage is apparent over time not after a few uses.
MsNaturale Michelle if you had one like she does its definitely not for curly hair. there is one with super long bristles that works better. or use a shampoo brush with long bristles
I have the one designed for Afro hair. I am not a neebie to the tangle teezer i have bought so many. I first tried them years ago when they first came out. Like i said the tangle teezer is bettter for those without fragile strands. My two sisters also have 4c hair and their hair can withstand almost anything their strands are not fine. I found that when i use brushes half or so of the hairs left over in the brush are not shed hairs more like broken hair.
What works best for me is finger detangling followed by the Hercules Magic Star comb. Different strokes for different folks i guess. I use a tail comb for making straight parts.
How did it cause split ends? I've never really heard of a hair comb /brush etc doing that
@@Jayariee it could because people are rough with their comb/brush by ripping it through their ends.
was that both tangle teaser shed hairs at the end? i mean the ones from the 2 sides of your hair
Don't think it was.
Girl I told my hair stylist, which was the first one I ever went to, I used a demman brush to detangle my dry hair. She almost passed out. She said that’s why I have hair loss. When I would detangle, I would lose so much hair. She showed me the proper way to do it which is soaking wet and being very gentle.
Why are you so pretty omg 😩❤️
Shouldn't the denman brush be modified? Removing alternate rows? Or is that not done anymore?
How long is a denman brush supposed to last? Mine was done in a year.
Try Snappee hair ties. I use smaller sections when I detangle with the denman brush to prevent breakage.
Your hair in the intro Is everything!!😍😍🤩🤩😭😭😭😭😭😭Tutorial!!
Can someone help me, my ends always get knotted up when wet and I always have to cut them off. I can’t never retain length because of this..
what does the tangle teezer brush for type 4 hair look like? is it the red one? im asking cause i've been thinking about getting one for a while and this video only adds to that but i want to buy the right one
Aniya M idk but i guess it should say on the package :)
Nooooo! Pre-combing with the Tangle Teezer is essential! After you get the big kinks out, it works best for finishing the job. Also, I recommend holding the base of your hair as you comb it so you won't feel pain as you work.
Sis your hair is sooo long and absolutely gorgeous. Keep it up.
Does the tangle brush have a great grip with product on your hands?
I use a wide tooth hair pick on my very natural thick curly kinky 4C hair, damp with Loreal 's conditioner for curly hair it seems to help prevent breakage & keeps my curls.Hope that helps somebody.
Lord have mercy chile! This was painful to watch. The reason you're losing so much hair is because you're supposed to comb it first! Honestly speaking, neither one of those tools is appropriate for 4c hair. You need the kind of Denman brush that has balls on the tip of the bristles to smooth and detangle. I bought one from the Dollar Tree and had it for years. And instead of yanking it through from the root, use a gentler touch and smaller strokes when you feel resistance.
Natiya Cisse 🤦🏽♀️
You mean a paddle brush?
Actually, I think it's called a vent brush.
Natiya Cisse OHH HELL NAW.... wet brushes and paddle brushes with the balls on the tip. are BAD for kinky hair, well at least imo and other peoples.... the balls on the tips, rip off a lot of hair off and gets tangled up easy in our kinky hair ( ironically) lol
The one I was talking about is called a vent brush. It's not that different from a Denman. The balls help it slide through wet hair. Technique is everything. Others have commented how her hair is not fully saturated and she even said "I'm used to the pain"
“4c girls can’t grow their hair” um what? This is just another example that uh YES THEY CAN. Your hair is gorgeous ugh❤️❤️
I want to get just one of them but which one should I get , opinions ??
The denman is a styling brush. It should be used after your hair is detangled to create defined curls.
Yeah I’m not in love with my denman brush neither
16:57, you're welcome.
this is really random, but what hair are you using in your intro on holiday??
Hhhoney where do you buy your denmen brush 4 a cheap price I bought mine for 17$
Get a 5 row den brush or remove every other row your loosing too much hair from both spritz hair with Aloe vera juice to use as a detangler and you won’t lose as much hair you probably won’t lose any
Combing through your hair with a wide tooth comb, might help before going straight in with a brush
ur not supposed to detangle hair with brushed that use thick / chunky bristles right ?
Can you answer a question for me? I’m a man with braids for like 5-6 months. This girl that does my hair I feel like she’s breaking my hair. She’ll tell me oh it’s dead hair. I understand some shedding but I honestly believe she’s breaking my hair being to rough. I know my hair I’m the one who takes it down. She combs my hair dry or loop wet. I got my hair did 2 days ago and noticed it was to much hair in the comb and my shirt. Can you tell me some good ways to prep my hair before letting her do it or some ways to help her help me? Cause I know I’m not wrong. My hair then grew passed my ears and like for a month or two it hasn’t grown.
Can you try the Felicia leatherwood brush pls ? 😘
I've been using the tangle geezer on my 4c hair for about 6 years and it's been a godsend.
I've never experienced damage or split ends with it. Just be reasonably gentle, finger detangle lightly first and do not use on completely dry hair.
I recently made a video about how I modify my tangle teezer to make it even more gentler- check out my channel x
What's your name are you Channel please
I’ve been using the denman brush for 4 years. I might have to go order me a tangle teaser and see how it goes. I lose quite a bit of hair with the denman brush but haven’t thought anything of it until now.
This might be a stupid question, but shouldn't you use a comb to detangle first and then maybe the brush? I thought a comb is for detangling and brush is for styling. Isn't that correct?
"Saving Lives," I had to smile.
Beautiful hair and skin. You are stunning !!!
pls i have a vry short heir what shuld i do for my heir to grow faster nd thicker i need ur help pls.
How do you take care of Ur hair so well that it grows?
Tangle teaser damages your hair over time... 4c hair shouldn't be detangled while it's dry... Saturate your hair with a cheap conditioner and or oil then detangle...
I agree. I've used the tangle teezer from 2013-2017 and have noticed damage over time. When I first used it, it seemed to work great (easy to detangle, fast, convenient, etc.) and my hair looked perfectly fine, but over time, I began to notice that the condition of my hair was starting to take a nose dive. I somehow retained quite a bit of length, but about 4-6 in. of my ends were shredded and see-through (possibly also due to my iron deficiency anemia). In 2018, I decided to go back to using the old-school wide-tooth comb and occasional finger detangling. I will never use detangling brushes again!
“Saving edges”, “saving hair”, “saving lives” I can’t with you 😂
Does anyone use the Wet brand detangling brush? It seems to work for me better than both of these.
Is there a tutorial for how to get the hair in the intro?
Haha I just lost my denman brush and was considering getting a new one or tangle teaser. Timely video 👍
Kaci Richards How is that funny thou?!
Girrrrl! You should never have PAIN just detangling your hair! Try smaller sections and don't force it! Sheeeesh😮
Yeah I detangle in smaller sections too with my wide teeth comb, then define the curls with my favorite product using the denman brush. If the brush doesn't go through, I don't force it at all. I just use my fingers lol.
Gurl I have all the combs you used in this video the big brush doesn't fully de'tangle your hair but the other brush do but it hurts a lot.
Hi, what eyelashes are those? Thank you!
Your skin is so pretty ! You kind of look like Ashanti to me.🙂
I love your intro!!
*i wonder how it feel to be able to brush hair dry*
I threw my Denman brush in the trash three years ago. Darn thing ripped my hair out! The Tangle Teaser is a DREAM COME TRUE!!! It's all I've been using ever since.
Don't you just love how people try to give tips on how to deal with hair like all hair is the same.
North Pittman tell me about it 🤦🏿♀️
Girl, I have been natural since 2009 and when I first started my journey, I was using the tangle teezer on wet hair without any kind of butter or detangling product and my hair was thriving. Then I started watching all those natural hair care videos saying that we should finger detangle and use the denman brush and I just stopped using the tangle teezer and even forgot I had it. Now a few years later, I realized that my hair was soooo better off when I was just using the tangle teezer and all this finger detangling did nothing for my hair but making it less detangled and thus proned to single strand knots etc. I'm going back to using the teezer now! (I'm a 4c natural)
Where did u get the tangle teezer from
I have a tangle teezer and denman I use them both for detangling. The tangle teezer does seem to get my hair more smoother
I had the same exact reaction 😂. I was out here loosing hair for no reason 😭😂
Your skin is amazing 😍😍😍😍 beautiful woman ( dark skin Ashanti )
So maybe detangle with the tangle teaser and then define with the denman?
How do you know what length your hair is??
You're stunning omg 😍
lmao! "Sis get you a tangle teaser"!
what products do you use in your hair
How many rows should my denman brush have?
You bought the wrong tangle teaser. There is a version for afro hair.
When i see a black sister with natural hair and proud of it , i feel like; 👍👌👏👏👏👏 its Gorgeous !
What brand of lashes are you wearing on this video.. I love them
Where can I get the qp elasta mango butter line 💛
It hurt her because she brushed her hair wrong she brushed it top to bottom and you have to brush it bottom to top and because she brushed it with to big sections
u're so pretty.
Where did you get your eyelashes from?
What is that hair in your intro? is it your natural hair? info please
