#Vinesauce #Akira #Anime - Hry
alternate title: vinny finally realizes that not every anime is highschool dxd
I remember watching the first episode of that shit as a kid then instantly shutting it off because I was afraid of getting caught looking at actual literal porn.
fotm/slice of life trash
I read "alternate universe" at first.
As an anime fan I'm a bit sick of fanservice-y high school slice of life comedies. Equally tired of "loser ends up in video game world where he gets all the girls because of his gaming sk1llz" isekai series.
@@OtakuUnitedStudio Parody Isekai like Konosuba are bangers though
John Anime will finally be able to face his family this Thanksgiving.
Unlike Mr Anime
After so many years
@@pee-bot Low key dark joke. I laughed and then felt bad.
@@AfroRyan my apologies
@@pee-bot Mega OOF.
This feels like a turning point in Vinesauce history. Chat now has to take a shot to both Akira and Blade Runner references.
I feel like Vinny would enjoy Cowboy Bebop.
Absolutely it’s the one I believe he would enjoy
+samurai champloo!
everyone who likes anime likes cowboy bebop. it's a classic.
Black Lagoon aswell
Fun fact, Steve Blum (Spike Spiegal) did bumpers for Vinesauce very early on!
Like you said, anime is a medium. Unfortunately, it's also an industry; the tropes and genres that sell are propagated out of necessity.
That being said, no not every anime is a highschool SoL, or generic isekai. Get someone informed to give you actual recommendations and listen to chat and comments sparingly and you'll definitely find other series and movies to enjoy.
There are a number of good isekai and high school anime that are worth recommending but not right now. Vinny needs to spend a few years in weebdom first before he's ready to wade through those
I can't help but wonder if the tropes that are popular now will be out of style in the next couple of years in Japan?
All this "10,000 year old goddess who has taken the form of a baby" has gotten really cringey.
@@MiyaoMeow588 which sadly won't happen
@@vinesauce thank god
@@doclouis4236 Are you trying to say it's not cringey even now?
Knowing his obsession for Blade Runner and A.I. in general, he would absolutely adore Ghost in the Shell. He needs to see that next.
I prefer both the Ghost in the shell movies to Akira personally. I think Vin would probably like GitS, especially if he likes Roy Batty from Blade Runner
When Vinny said "Meat baby" all I could think about was Tetsuo going "Yeeow!"
Still amazing how Akira was all traditionally hand drawn, truly is a timeless classic.
I would also recommend Jin-Roh which is another classic.
Also forgot to mention some others: Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust and Paranoia Agent
fully agree, but DAMN your name is LONG. it's sticking out from the comments into the recommended videos, bro
@@mechadendrite739 pp big and long 🙄
Jin-Roh is great, but the story isn't that great, and pretty slow IMO. So I don't think it's a good recommendation for a newbie, unless they're really into the subject.
@@NecromancyForKids True, but I gotta admit that the gritty artstyle and characters overall reactions/voicelines did make it more realisitc in my opinion. And the armor that they wear, so badass!
@@joshshrum2764 Eva has obnoxious screaming teenagers in it, and the late episodes are more of a personal meltdown than anything else. Not a good choice for an anime newbie.
"I need to take my time with stuff" Yeah, that's the right attitude to have honestly. Sure, there are a few anime movies and series that are near-unanimously acclaimed and I hope you get around to them eventually, but you don't want to binge-watch the good stuff, especially the first time you see it and double-especially for things that have been around long enough to generate influence on other works. Let it seep in; if it's solid and its themes are rooted in relatable, human concepts (and even wild sci-fi stuff will have that), it won't take long before you start seeing it be relatable in other aspects of your life, which is how the ideas and inspirations come out. When it's saturated and you feel you're ready to try something else, you'll know.
Vin, you gotta come to my club; it's called Anime. It's got big bazongas, it's got melodrama, Usada Pekora-chan was there.
Anime for me stopped with Vampire Hunter D, AKIRA, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Perfect Blue and Paprika (RIP Satoshi Kon). There hasn't been anything else that's caught my attention since then.
Didn't expect to see Pekora/Hololive here
First Pekora said "SPEEEN" while playing Crash Bandicoot and now someone is trying to insert Vinny into VTubers, sasuga
@@robbysalz8710 I'm sure there's stuff that'd still catch your interest but the industry is very over-saturated.
J. Herrera I’m definitely open to any recommendations you might have based on what I outlined before. I was also a big fan of Perfect Blue and Paprika. It seems no one is making mature and cool anime anymore that doesn’t come off as try-hard or cringe. But again, I’m definitely open to recommendations!
“vin you gotta come to my club it’s called ANIME - guess who’s gonna be there AKIRA MENDES”
I think Ghost in the Shell is a great next anime for Vin to watch, feels right up his alley. Glad he enjoyed Akira!
Vinny would love GITS, was a direct influence on The Matrix
I love Ghost in the Shell. Of course it also depends on which one you want him to watch. The movie is similar to Blade Runner while Stand Alone Complex is more cyber agents dealing with terrorists and such.
@@USMC49er I was assuming he meant the movie, thematically feels like something he'd be interested in
Major would be Vinny's new waifu
Lol yesterday i was in anime mood and ghost in the shell seemed intresting having seen the movie. Started jojo instead, cannot miss that one i guess
Cheers to Vinny's mind and horizons opening.
Absolutely. The tropes are fun to laugh at but anime has had plenty of great art and storytelling to tell. Not to sound too pushy but something I hope Vinny might start doing is taking a look at some songs, OPs, or maybe something else that is short, to the point, and well produced. I bring this up because I was thinking of Tank! when Vin mentioned Cowboy Bebop.
vinny doesnt and has never hated anime
@@Barriertriostruckapose I didn't say that but ok.
@@Berry_Bruiser Being too pushy is one of the bigger problems of the anime community. Well. Less pushy and more "overwhelmingly enthusiastic." Kinda similar to the Undertale community. I know it doesn't come from a negative place, but it can turn people away.
...I've actually been trying to be less pessimistic about anime since I made some friends who like it. It's just still too... much. Any ideas how to reverse some of that negative thinking?
@@sillykola50 It would be easier if I knew what exactly turns you away from anime. You mentioned that 'it's just too much' but I seriously doubt I couldn't find a mundane anime thats just about cooking or basketball that barely has any of the stereotypes of anime. The only way those shows could be too much is if you just hate things that are just a part of the cores of creating anime, like using still photos but adding sound effects and some visual movement overlays/zooming/etc to fill run time.
The only thing I think I can really say atm is that if you look for the pit falls of creating anime then you will definitely find them in even some of the best anime shows and movies. However, if you can get around some personal biases and even some bad choices of the person/people who made the manga/anime then you can find a lot of gold sitting right under the surface.
the impossible has been achieved
Vinny is just 5 years older than me but I love how "Old Man Johnson" he gets when it comes to anime and I'm not being shitty or sarcastic about that, I legit think it's funny and I enjoy it.
Hell, I'm only two years younger than the dude and it still tickles me.
I get it though. If you've never been exposed to it as a medium and only through what the general populous likes and shoves in your face or even through his unfortunate associations via Sunday streams it can taint the idea of it all for sure.
Even now the comment section is throwing out so many things and names without solicitation and not making an argument for *why* someone may be interested in the thing other than being "This is an amine I like you might to" It's like recommending random movies without understanding why someone likes a genre in film.
I'm really glad he went with Akira for his first dip into the story art though as much like Miyazaki films it really transcends the crunchy roll stigma of what ever is the new hotness this month/year and is just a damn great movie with stunning animation and story telling.
Here's hoping it opens the doors for him and with someone like Ross it should be easier and easier to get him to maybe take a shot at stuff like Jin-Roh, GiTS or even as a series CBBB.
@@AggroNoobs Yeah I get it too, I'm not super into anime either I'm more like Joel, I don't know much about modern anime but I'm very passionate about the series I already like and I like retro anime too, I'd love to recommend *Perfect Blue* to Vinny, he likes weird fucked up stuff I'm certain he would love it.
i think hes just obstinate about it and doesnt want to expose himself as someone who knows about a bit of anime. i dont buy the old man johnson shit for a second lmfao
@@sketchyscratch Nobody buys you.
vinny would probably enjoy satoshi kon's movies
hell yeah. maybe even Paranoia Agent
nah
@@NicoNicoNessieSub we must make biny watch paprika
we must
Maybe not start on "Perfect Blue" though, might scare him off lol
He should watch FLCL, it has some very eccentric humour that I think vinny likes, really good animations and fucking awesome OST
Also Monster is pretty great too
I think Vinny would enjoy Castle In The Sky, he’d enjoy the Chrono Trigger-like similarities and if he watches the English dub you also have Mark Hamill
I’m not sure if Vinny’s ready for a anime series yet
We do need to get Vin to watch some Studio Ghibli. Most of their films aren't "too anime" for him to enjoy, and it's hard for *anyone* not to be captivated by them.
I think I’d personally recommend Mononoke - just enough action, with top-notch animation to boot, and a little bit less kid-friendly than Castle.
I love that movie!!
I love that movie too
But don't pressure Vinny, let's just see what he does to watch and do after this
Would Vinny enjoy the Ghost in the Shell anime film?
I don’t know what the first series he should see would be. Maybe something really non-anime like Monster but It’s a really obscure series so I doubt anyone would recommend it
Vinny, my cousin owns a Club called Initial D and you'll never guess who was down there the other night: Takumi Fujiwara. Thats right, THE Takumi Fujiwara. You gotta come down, Vin.
Don’t forget the Lonely Driver’s Club
Bait, it's really just itsuki
h
I doubt Vin will watch Initial D anytime soon, he’s stepping out of his comfort zone just to watch Akira. If anything he will probably watch the legend series and be done with it.
Vinny, the Red Suns will be there!
Chat argued about subs vs dubs during this, reinforcing his desire to not watch another anime after this one.
Dammit all, chat!
that was kinda annoying. whenever chat thinks they're being witty, they end up flooding and circlejerking so bad that it just seems exactly like what they're mocking
@@sonozaki0000 Agreed. Chat definitely has their moments, but they can definitely be the bane of Vinny sometimes, even after all he does for us. I especially hate it when they'd rather bicker than listen to Vinny when he's being sincere. This review of his for example.
@Rando I guess you have a good point. But you gotta realize that Vin is already going far out of his comfort zone *just* to watch Akira, which is universally praised all around. He clearly has his biases. So you can imagine how annoying it might be for him when chat starts regurgitating every known Anime to him now.
Goddamnit chat,
ruining everything!
Vinny's probably not looking for recommendations right now, but the subject of great animation came up, so to anyone reading looking for masterclass animation in anime, check out Redline.
See, this sort of comment gives me hope. Recognizing boundaries and respecting them.
Redline is fucking wild, iirc it took a full 7 years to animate because it's all hand drawn by a very small team. It's like if Wacky Races got injected with F-Zero and Gurren Laggan
YES! so happy to see a redline recommendation here.
I don’t even want to imagine what vinny would think of neon genesis evangelion
I think Vinny would be very disturbed.
Evangelion has the same fan service-y tropes that most animes do but its actually played straight which puts it into perspective how fucked up it actually is.
Whin I watched that show for the first time I couldnt believe it was main stream just because of how confusing some of the plot is and how fucked up the show got.
Vinny should just adopt Jerma's rule of "one anime per year, period", so he can go a little out of his comfort zone while at the same time being able to get it done at the start of the year and having a good excuse to not watch any more for the rest of it.
He should
RSB-Miasma lmao it’s true
RSB-Miasma This is a perfect description
For me it's more like 15 anime per year.
Magnus Bergersen That’s actually pretty alright in my book

I like how the first anime he watches has one of the most convoluted plot
Yeah if he wasn’t into weird shit with tons of subtext and shit that leaves you challenged after watching then it might’ve been the final nail in the anime coffin
but Vinny already likes David Lynch movies and movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey. Anime is a medium not a genre, so why would he start with something simple?
That’s precisely why it was reccomended. Nothing like a little something subversive and psychedelic to break bias. Especially his bias about anime being trope-dependent and industry controlled.

Oh god, vinny actually thought every anime was highschool drama, he even expected it in Akira. I'm glad he now sees that it's not all the same, there are some fantastic anime, dare I even say there are even good highschool anime. I'm sure Vinny would love Cowboy Bebop and Ghibli stuff.
90% of it high school melodramas tho so he isn’t completely wrong
Yeah there are definitely good highschool anime, they're mostly comedies/slice of life though. In terms of drama I honestly, feel like western media goes way more in on that than anime does.
@@EddieBurke Many are highschool, but melodrama is not as common as the slice of life/comedy ones.
Mialisus Oh no
there's a lot of fantasic animes and 90% of them are higschol slice of life animes
I'm glad Vinny enjoyed Akira. There's a reason it is a classic.

He doesn't have any exposure to Japanese idol culture, but I think he would still enjoy the psychological aspect for sure. He could probably handle most of Kon's movies.
Oh man, I'm sure Vinny would enjoy Paranoia Agent or anything made by Satoshi Kon
“ I never had a friend growing up “ damn vinny... I’m sorry
His comments about not having an anime friend was amusing to me. My anime "friend" growing up is why I have such a distain for it these days.
Maybe one day I'll actually sit through one I enjoy.
I never had any friends growing up either so that probably was even tougher for me.

I once mailed Vinny recommending Castle in the Sky, since he likes Chrono Trigger so much, not knowing he doesn't really watch anime.
I hope he gets to watch it one day, the inspiration taken from it is very clear.
Vinny should check out Redline! Wacky futuristic racing movie wrapped in absolutely stellar art and animation.
Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, Bladerunner, Akira, GITS (1995), in that order. Anything after is a bonus.
Not Fritz Lang's Metropolis, thats a German 1920's silent movie which is stretching the definition of anime a little. The anime of the same name is cool, haven't seen the original but I loved _M_ .
I've always wanted to see Metropolis since I came across a really cool short clip of it. Is the story good, or is it just pretty? (As if I won't see it anyways!)
@@sonozaki0000 The anime? It's worth watching, the story is quite simple but it's effective and the visuals are amazing.
Nah, watch the original Metropolis. Yeah it’s more abstract and simple, but I simply find it better than the anime one (which is good in its own right).
I've already seen the original Metropolis (the silent film), is it much like that?
The recommended this to you because of your meat motif.
I'd recommend No Game No Life, but you're not ready for that level of anime pop culture.

That's what I was implying.
@@nullpoint3346 I love anime almost to a fault. And I had to drop that because of the sibling taboo stuff. I just can't do that trope.
@@GreenGorgeousness You dropped it for something that was little more than a character gag? I, ugh, there's just so much greatness, and you didn't get to experience any of it because you couldn't handle a weak gag of a moderately taboo subject.
Akira's one of the greats. I'm glad Vinny got to experience it in a theater.
It's great to see Vinny was able to enjoy himself with AKIRA, it's a movie I love as well. I can't wait to see everyone yelling TETSUUUUOOOOOO and KAAANEEEEDAAAAA at him.
Really glad Vinny enjoyed this. Makes me wanna watch it again.
This puts a smile on my face. It feels nice knowing Vinny watching anime, especially Akira of all would be an interesting thing for him to watch.
For another stand alone anime movie, "Redline" cannot be recommended enough
Paprika would also be in that general ballpark, but yeah 100% Redline is some of the best animation around
Glad you enjoyed the movie. People really like to forget that anime is a medium, not a genre. And there are tropes in every medium. So broaden your horizons, there's a bunch of good stuff.
Beautiful commentary! I have a feeling cowboy bebop is gonna be a good first anime series for Vinny to watch, but as Vinny said one step at a time and try not to overwhelm yourself.
I feel Vinny's hesitation thanks to the monster that is pervert weeb culture, but there are some incredible stories that come from Japan.
"Fans make everything worse" as they always say

Thank you for your honesty Vinny, loved this
Hearing him talk about Akira's influences reminds me of the first time I watched Twin Peaks and noticed it's in everything I like.
i had not yet processed the fact that vin has never seen cowboy bebop
I think this should had been a full spoiler review with favourite moments. The films very old now and its not hard to track down and watch.
I dont know why he does this, the movie is almost as old as him and there's always disclaimers
Manga spoilers duhh
Haven't even seen it myself and his spoiler-free review actually animated me into watching it sometime later. Sometimes I understand when people do spoiler-ful reviews of this kinda thing, but some people like me have missed out on these little gems.
track down and watch it where?
I think Ghost in the Shell is very up your alley Vin. Glad you enjoyed Akira and super thrilled about the idea of you checking out the movie that got ME into anime as well.
I'm so happy that Vinny enjoyed it! If he wants to pursue further anime films, he should totally go for any of the Studio Ghibli stuff.
I absolutely recommend Perfect Blue, it's one of my favorite horror movies right next to The Thing. It's a psychological thriller that has only become more topical in the modern era of internet avatars.
Mamoru Oshii's stuff is really good. Ghost of the Shell is a classic, but Patlabor 2 is also really good.
Very good, and come to think of it, Patlabor as a whole is really newb-friendly. First OVA and movies 1 and 2 specially.
Happy Vin liked Akira, hope he does venture out and watches more of whatever he fancies. Good heart to heart Vin.
As someone who doesn't care all that much about anime I adore this movie. It's hits so many notes perfectly. When it pulled me in enough to read the manga I was blown away with how the illustration and story surpassed it's essence even further. The whole phenomenon is such wonderfully done thing and the implication of the story really spoke with me, and still does.
I'm happy out of the vast ocean of content this is what he decided to watch first. I totally have a bias to it, but this kind of thing screams Vinny. It's like a Sunday stream where he stumbles into an existential trippy masterpiece indie game.
Definitely recommend Cowboy Bebop, it's extremely good.
Cowboy Bebop is easily the best anime ever. Up there with Evangelion in my opinion (I feel Vinny would enjoy End of Evangelion too). Also currently watching Steins;Gate.
Don’t you mean... Wboi bebop?
Vinny watched an anime because of chat, and today I watched 2001 a space Odyssey because of Vinny
2001 Space Odyssey is a glorious movie. If you didn't check out other Kubrick's work, I highly recommend them. Fullmetal Jacket, The Shining and Clockwork Orange are amazing too.
Akira is such a beautiful movie. When I watched it, I was blown away at how smooth the animation was. You can clearly see that they never cut corners or sacrificed the quality of the animation at any point, and it still holds up even 30 years later.
Glad to see you got an opportunity to experience Akira, Vin. Akira is a fun, meaty movie to watch. Even when you rewatch it, there's always something new to notice about it.
if you want to know more detail about a certain character or see a part of the movie in even more depth, the manga is where its at. They even have a part where they give more detail to that crazy shaman cultist guy worshipping Akira. Its in left to right reading order btw, as well in these nice big book versions.
Have a good time, dude!
I'll have to watch Akira myself soon. Been on the back burner for a good while. I hope you enjoy Ghost in the Shell as well. The Original movie and Standalone Complex series are some of my favourites of the medium.
"The focus between CANADA and Tetsuo"
Woo! Congrats, Vinny! I also re-watched Akira for the first time in years and it still holds up, hilarious dubs and all.
Now watch Ghost in the Shell, especially with the new 4K Blu-Ray Re-Release edition coming out in September! (This one has the OG opening, too, thank God. None of that 2.0 nonsense.)
Edit: Also Vin, hit up the Geinoh Yamashirogumi Akira OST to get the full effect of the soundtrack sometime. It's mind altering.
God I’m so happy vin ended up enjoying this movie, absolute fucking classic.
I feel like Vinny would really love Steins;Gate, Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop.
Anything further away from the "typical" anime stuff he associates it with the better. I hope he can eventually set his biases aside and enjoy some incredible shows and movies.
Steins;Gate is cheating, cuz even with its obvious japanese-ness, it's the best time travel story ever.
Man of culture I see

I love s;g and all the other sci;adv stories too but I'm not too sure if that'd be Vinny's cup of tea

MORE VIN REVIEWS THIS IS GREAT!
This animation still holds up today. Great anime for all time.
This actually feels like a huge achievement that I'm yet have to experience, congratulations Vinny!
I have a feeling that he would enjoy manga version too. It's even more crazy and darker than movie. Characters in manga are even more crazy, some of them are not existing in movie, while others that exist in movie are more important in manga.
Great! I'm going to give you my part of Recommendation. Mamoru Oshiis Patlabor and Jin Roh!
Just do everything at your own pace bro. Glad you checked it out.

Oh hey, it's my favorite *slime tutorial* featured in this video.
i still cant believe this movie came out in '88 and was entirely hand drawn. aged like fine wine. cant wait for the 4K release-if it ever comes to my country
I am so hyped that Binyot enjoyed Akira. It's truly a strange but great journey to view.
Hope he checks out other good anime.
It sounds like Vinny would like cyberpunk stuff with a more grounded presentation (not necessarily grounded content obviously). I think GITS is a fine thing to move onto. I would recommend Psycho Pass, but if he's not willing to sit through Cowboy Bebop anytime soon, I imagine he's just not looking for TV series at this point, which is totally fair. I'm not as well versed in anime film outside of Ghibli, but I imagine there's a ton of 80s and 90s stuff that would appeal to him. We'll see how he likes GITS for now and if Stand Alone Complex would be in the cards for him.
Edit: Oh actually, Satoshi Kon films are right up his alley.
I watch some anime, but I have never seen any of the greats... But hearing Vinny talk about this makes me want to watch it now.
I used to hate anime until i watched stuff from studio ghibli.
@@MrNinjaman63 Oh whoops, I forgot about those. I was thinking like "great anime series", even though Akira's a movie.
But yeah, I love all of the Studio Ghibli films I've seen, I just haven't seen any anime movies (or series) that are considered "must-watch" outside of those films.
Be sure to check out the older stuff! A lot of people love to give props to Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, etc but totally ignore extremely influential classics like Gundam 0079, The Rose of Versailles, and Space Battleship Yamato, mostly because it's just not very popular in America
That's awesome man that you watch that anime you didn't only just watch it but you watched it in vr it is a really good experience and I'm glad you enjoyed yourself 👊
I'm glad you had fun with the film! I think its a great film also and the animation is fantastic. The manga/graphic novel is also gorgeous and worth a look at if you like. Like some other people in chat have suggested, Satoshi Kon is a great director whose made some very mind bending films. I say listen to your friends for suggestions if you ever wanna dive more into this as they would know your tastes best. Until then i'm glad that if this is the only anime thing you ever touch it was Akira and you had fun.
For a second I thought the sticker on the bike said meth
I think Vinny's tastes in anime are more similar to mine that I realised. I prefer when anime portrays people as people, not as "anime" characters, and it's that grounded mentality that's just lacking in modern anime at large. This is usually why I gravitate towards seinen anime nowadays, but even some outside that subgenre have surprised me from time to time.
With that in mind here's some recommendations if anyone else is looking for more anime films/series you might like, more in line with this style.
Films: Ghost in the Shell 1 & 2, Macross Plus (OVA), Royal Space Force, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Ninja Scroll, Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress, Paprika, Redline, Sword of the Stranger, Jin-roh, and Sky Crawlers.
Series: Planetes, Serial Experiments Lain, Texhnolyze, Ergo Proxy, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, GunGrave, Trigun, Outlaw Star, Moribito, Parasyte, Boogiepop Phantom, Speed Grapher, Le Chevalier D'eon, Welcome to the NHK, Kino's Journey (2003), Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor, and Shiki.
I've limited myself there, but if anyone's in the same boat as Vinny, hopefully you'll be able to find more shows you'll enjoy from that list.
Interesting, a lot of shows I've never heard about.
I didn't know 'Welcome to the NHK' was "real" in any way, always avoided it because anime slice of life tends to be shit, so I might actually check it out now.
And some of the others, if I haven't watched them yet, are on my list, might add the ones I haven't heard of to it too if they interest me, thanks!
Just a shot in the dark, but have you heard about Death Parade?
I love it as it is, but the concept is so much greater, and a shame it never got another season.
It has some silly anime stuff, mostly thanks to a fangirl character, almost felt like a quota they had to achieve.
Maybe you should check it out.
Don't be distracted by the opening, it's infamous for being misleading.
@@mauvedragontiddies9244 NHK is surprisingly good, I reckon you'll like it. It's about a man who suffers from crippling social anxiety, to the point where he's become a NEET, or Hikkikamori. He's convinced himself it's all a conspiracy that he's become a shut-in, and dilludes himself. It's both a dark comedy and psychological drama, where he meets a girl willing to help him gradually build is self-confidence back up. Some scenes are really uncomfortable, but I applaud the creators for not glorifying the subject matter like most slice of life shows would.
And I saw Death Parade a while back and really enjoyed it. Even without a second season, it felt like the story ended on a satisfying note, narrative-wise.
@Bufudyne thats a fucking stellar list.
Especially Welcome to the Nhk, Vampire Hunter D, Lain, Paprika etc.
Though, Boogiepop can be even more obtuse than Lain to get into, due to being an arc to an already ongoing story.
Id also suggest Galaxy Express 999, Gurenn Lagann, and Space Pirate Captain Harlock. The original Gundam series cant hurt either, or Gundam:Origin
I will say, even some of the anime that I have seen that gravitate towards the anime tropes while also having a sense that it knows what it is or they become an important, actually well written part later on.
Kill-La-Kill is a crazy ride with anime tropes and a bat shit insane story (also incredibly unique animation even among anime), but the tropes of fanservice actually play into the plot later and teach a good moral about being comfortable with being yourself. It's overall a great watch, and the English dub is absolutely god-tier in terms of writing and line delivery.
@@jolynekujobackfromprison744 Just what anyone needs, trashy horny shit... that tries to self rationalize it's trashiness and horniness. That's basically the kind of shit that puts off a lot of people from anime.
I think you'll greatly enjoy "Sword of the Stranger". It's like an underrated and hidden "Akira".
It felt so good hearing Vinny say that Akira is amazing for some reason
(Disclaimer: These are opinions, not requests, I'm definitely not gonna be that "HEY VINNY U SHOULD WATCH EVERY ANIME" guy).
I think Vinny would love the original 1995 Ghost in the Shell movie (it influenced The Matrix and Metal Gear Solid 1).
Edit: another recommendations I could give would be 2001's Metropolis, and 1999's Jin-Roh: Wolf Brigade.
I'm happy that he's watched it, not as a weeb like as in "YES WE GOT ANOTHER ONE GUYS", but as a little fan who is happy that someone whose content I love really enjoyed a movie that means a lot to me.
I really hope that Vinny watches another good anime movie like Howls Moving Castle or maybe a series like nichijou
Nichijou is hilarious, but I don't see Vincent starting it.
...also, that's yet another series I might have to rewatch. There are some good reminders here in these comments.
this feels surreal...
after so many years of memes and jokes about anime on stream it feels like a door has been opened.
i dont expect this to be an eye opening experience that will shape vinny's life forever, but i definitely think he will slowly evolve into one of those cult classic fans of anime that talks about the legend of galactic heroes.
cus that kinda person is the equivalent to vinny never shutting the fuck up about star trek and blade runner
Akira was the first anime I can recall that really got me into anime. I would recommend all the 80s movies on the manga films series because they were more digestible in the same way to me.
I love all Kubrick 2001 is my favorite.
I've heard that Alejandro Jodorowsky helped come up with the ending for akira because the manga wasn't complete at the time. Idk if it's true but it makes sense personally.
the only "highschool" anime id be able to recommend vinny (from ones ive seen) is probably nichijou
probably because of how batshit insane it is
I am not certain that I would consider it a “highschool” anime. It is recommendable, though. I liked it, but can definitely see it not being for everyone.
nichijou is goat
Nah, only high school anime for Vinny is straight up the animation for corpse party.
Lucky Star is pretty good too.
I actually kinda like Nichijou.
Same for Azumanga.
Here are my recommendations for you Vin: Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and GITS. Take with that what you will. 👍🏻
I'm glad Vinny had a good time with the movie :)
I like how eloquently vinny told chat off, you may never read this Vinny but you are a true gentleman, may god bless your soul.
It's like one of my japanese animes
He watched anime.... I'm calling him Vinny-hakase (ビニーハカセ) from now on.
People always talk about the ending but the beginning is really something else for me.
The silence of the scene change and the drums really set the tone of the movie and you've only made it out of the first minute.
One of my favorite intros in movies.
Watching this for the first time tonight in 4k at my local theater!
How long before Vinny watches Neon Genesis Evangelion and blows his brains out?
I estimate 2-5 years.
I was thinking exactly this...
meh it was aight, nothing mind blowing. animation was gorgeous tho.
@@bloomingteratoma thats how I felt about Akira
