- David Frizzell performing I'm Gonna Hire A Wino
Lyrics:
I came crawling home last night, like many nights before:
I finally made it to my feet as she opened up the door.
And she said, "You're not gonna do this anymore."
She said: "I'm gonna' hire a wino to decorate our home,
"So you'll feel more at ease here, and you won't have to roam.
"We'll take out the dining room table, and put a bar along that wall.
"And a neon sign, to point the way, to our bathroom down the hall."
She said: "Just bring your Friday paycheck, and I'll cash them all right here.
"And I'll keep on tap - for all your friends, their favorite kinds of beer.
"And for you, I'll always keep in stock, those soft aluminum cans.
"And when you're feeling macho, you can crush them like a man."
She said: "We'll rip out all the carpet, and put sawdust on the floor.
"Serve hard boiled eggs and pretzels, and I won't cook no more.
"There'll be Monday night football, on T.V. above the bar.
"And a pay phone in the hallway, when your friends can't find their car."
She said: "I'm gonna' hire a wino to decorate our home,
"So you'll feel more at ease here, and you won't have to roam.
"We'll take out the dining room table, and put a bar along that wall.
"And a neon sign, to point the way, to our bathroom down the hall."
She said: "You'll get friendly service, and for added atmosphere.
"I'll slip on something sexy, and I'll cut it clear to here.
"Then you can slap my bottom, every time you tell a joke.
"Just as long as you keep tipping, well, I'll laugh until you're broke."
She said: "Instead of family quarrels, we'll have a bar-room brawl,
"When the Ham's bear say's its closing time, you won't have far to crawl.
"And when you run out of money, you'll have me to thank.
"You can sleep it off next morning, when I'm putting it in the bank."
She said: "I'm gonna' hire a wino, to decorate our home,
"So you can feel more at ease here, and you won't have to roam.
"When you and your friends get off from work, and have a powerful thirst.
"There won't be any reason, why you can't stop off here first."
She said: "I'm gonna' hire a wino to decorate our home,
"So you'll feel more at ease here, and you won't have to roam.
"We'll take out the dining room table, and put a bar along that wall.
"And a neon sign, to point the way, to our bathroom down the hall."

They don't know how love the old country
If you have heard him sing you already know how good he is. But, if you haven't heard from him, listen to Mo Pitney singing Mel Street's "Borrowed Angel."
We all grew up in the bar at home geezus

*You don't hear this music on the radio anymore so I came here to get my younger years back I'm 66 yrs old thanks to everyone that is listening to these oldies but goodies ✨😊*
Yept I am 67 and I still love it.
Love this 💯💯 Classic Country GOLD💯
When this song was popular, my parents owned a bar in a small farming town, and if I heard this song once a day, it was a VERY slow business day. I remember being willing to pay to NEVER hear this song again before I was 20; now, at the age of 58, all I have to do is think of the title, and some of the best memories all come flooding back in an instant. Let it be a lesson to all that you never know what your favorite memories will be while you’re busy making them.
Thanks for this comment, you make a good point.
I first heard this song in Boston, on an Album Oriented Rock station. Not their normal cup of tea, but the morning drive dj thought the song was priceless wanted to share it.
It reminded me of the small farming town that I was from.
I remember David Allen Coe You never call me by my name, whenever that song was played at our bar everybody would sing it loud and proud!!! Your absolutely right, the memories I have are so great to look back on!!! Many years of being a biker and just riding drinking and having fun!!! Wish I could go back and do it all over again!!!
What you mean back when it was popular ur here jamming it so it’s still possible
@@kansas3332 It’s not on the charts, is it? In fact, I don’t hear it on radio any longer, commercial or Sirius. The point of my comment is that 40 years puts a different perspective on how you think about your life.
@@LTJC70 I wouldn’t want to go back necessarily; where I was once young and impressionable, now I’m older and much less malleable. In fact, the older me would hurt himself laughing at the younger me!
Not sure if anyone will see this 15 years later but this was one of my grandfathers favorite songs. He always said he wanted this played at his funeral and well that time finally came. I’ve been listening to a lot of those songs lately and this is one that will always get me
Every time i heard this song my dad sang along with it!he has passed away now but it still feels like hes here when i hear this song!Love you always dad ! Your gone but not forgotten!
My dad did the same. There singing this now ❤
These were the most clever lyrics in a Country song back in the day. Probably still are. Loved this song when it hit the charts.
Probably one of the best country songs ever written!
My husband who died in 2015 we used to go out n listen to these awesome songs n so 56 years later they are still tops in my book!!!!!
Amén don't for much new ctry.
I'm 58 this year and I remember this song and I couldn't resist listening to it again. 🤣
This was my life in the old days thank God it ain't no more. My wife will verify that I couldn't handle this again, so I'm glad God give me a chance to change my life and quit all the stupid things I used to do. So anybody that live this kind of life I hope they have a chance to change thank you God
Really??you are going to come into the comments section of this classic tune and pray for the rest of us to clean up? Jesus, some folks have no tact. Have a drink. U were prob less of an ass hole.
I wasn't a wino-I was more beer and liquor man. I was a functioning alcoholic. I quit Christmas Eve 1981 because of a sacred promise to a 6 year old little girl I latter adopted. I married her mother January 28, 1982 and we were together until my wife passed away September 18, 2017 from a stroke. I am happy to say I have never relapsed even when my wife died.
This song always reminded me of my cousin and his wife he would get so drunk he beat his kids and wife and do some drunk driving went to jail for it and nearly lost his job they divorced and he died of a heart attack the kids are grown up and his wife married another man

I always listen to all the older song. Back during the 60s and 70s.
Dad used to play this on grandma's old record player. Along with "Old John's been Shucking my corn", "Elvira", "Nag" and "Lord it's hard to be humble". Great music
This song use play on all radio stations back then still remember this song, still is classic hit song. I was radio listener way back 1970s still enjoy classic hits songs. Pure country music sound!!!!! Two thumbs up. I grow up Country Music was younger age still am today.
Music like this simply couldn’t be produced anymore because the music industry and society as a whole has gone downhill too much. All that can be done now is to just appreciate the good memories.
I love David frizzell and his good old country music I hope he's still making good old music
Music has lost a lot of its soul

All have passed now. Mom and Dewayne in the last few years. Ron decsdes ago in an accident. Still fun to listen too.

I Ve been listening to the feddy song Wino sense I was 2yrs. In my grandma bar.Houston Tx
A friend of mine & his wife, did just what The song said, you opened the two stall garage & it, was like walkin into the cut away of a movie set, lol it was modeled after the Gilly's Bar in Pasadena Texas.. Juke Box pool table Small lighted Dance floor like Saturday Night Feaver, across the bk wall 16 ft. Bar it had it All.. & they stayed married & Happy till age 62 & Liver Failure.. True Story..
What a great song and great performance! The insight of the song is how it can make the fella behaving like the hubby in the song smile yet (hopefully) *think* about his choices ad behavior. Brilliant.

@michaelsmith3550 Hi Michael I'm doing fine thanks for asking 😊😊And yourself?
What a great song! Can that be my old folks home?
I was a kid in the early 2000s and my dad used to sing this almost every day. It annoyed me so much that I would blast my video game music from my room and drown him out. Now I wish I could hear his rendition just one more time.
WOOO HOOO!!!!! Great Song!!!!!
One of the best We ever had/Like Brother/like Brother.
This is one great song! The only one I know of that talks about the Hamm's bear!

I love her voice, it’s so clear and beautiful. ❤
Her?
Jody Lee my grandmother loved her wine but my grandfather had to limit her intake. He made his own wine which was kick ass and gave my grandmother a mason jar full each day and that was her limit unless they got company she would get extra. I often drank at ten am so she could have her extra glass or two and we would put on this song and sing like rock stars lol. I sure do miss her
Tim B. love this!!
beautiful
sounds like a country song
Sorry for your loss
Awesome song 😂😂😂😂 I come in peace ✌️
Every time I heard this as a teenager in the 80s I imagined it being about Andy Capp and his wife Flo. Him staggering home from the pub drunk as a skunk, and her waiting for him inside the front door in her housecoat to give him a good piece of her mind, and then the two of them ending up in knock'em down, drag'em out fight. That would have made a great video for this song.
Remember this song on radio countdown American top 40 countdown in Sunday. This Classic Country Music should be today not all junk songs. Can't understand song. This should be on Junk box like was back 1970s. Classic country music songs.
