His surgeon is an artist. I understood him just fine, he sounds wonderful. This was a sickening story, but I was thrilled to see him alive.
My heart literally stopped when they covered his injuries and I was waiting for that confirmation that he had died, and then when he appeared on screen I literally gasped. I am so glad this family made it.
Mass General is one of the best hospitals in THE WORLD, not just our state. They saved my life last year; i should've died, twice, and my cardiac surgeon Dr. Langer gave me a second lease on life. Love that guy, he's a peach, too (& pretty cute 😂)!!!
Yes! That is some truly impressive reconstruction work right there! Not difficult to understand at all, but maybe it's difficult for him to speak this clearly if he has to speak more than a couple of sentences...

Everyone in the family is incredible from the father to the cousin who was literally ready to sacrifice herself to protect her little cousins! Gave me goosebumps

Damn, the father was a badass. He gets shot, his jaw is ripped off in the process, he's bleeding everywhere and knows he's dying, and still he manages to write a message for the cops.

So glad it wasn't his writing hand that got blasted.
P.S. he wasn't dying
Azariachan IKR?
Azariachan yeah and yet the police botched or wouldn’t do anything for the investigation. What kind of reason could they have to leave out of the police log in the paper that a man, a police officer even, was shot? I’m glad the cops seem to at least be trying to protect his family though. So sad..
Azaruachan: Yeah exactly and he even did it two times, ones in the car and at the hospital 🤔😯❤

What I find odd is how everyone is referring to John in a past tense, John WAS this, John WAS that! Then boom John suddenly joins the interview!
Called building suspense in a production
Not very smart are you?
Jo Pearson it’s got nothing to do with intelligence....it’s building a false pretences...which is what I find odd! Just tell the story how it is!
my desire I’m well aware of what they’re doing but I personally find it odd...no need to build suspense just tell the freaking story as it was! 🙄🙄🙄
It's a rather cheap production trick to be misleading like that; you can question the shameless absurdity of it and still understand why it was done. It can be called odd, but really just seemed pretty disingenuious
This is like a horror movie, but the characters are smart.

John is far more of a forgiving man than I could ever be.. if I knew someone like Reine had put my family through all of that, I don’t think I could have stopped myself from giving him what he deserved..
It’s truly amazing to witness. Revenge and hatred is heavy to carry around. Happy he and his wife walked away and chose freedom. God always has the last say…in this life or the next. Beautiful family.
I wished that he could have shot Melvin but I'm so glad he didn't. Revenge is never the answer and killing that horrible man wouldn't be worth spending the rest of his life in prison. It would have caused his family even more intense pain.
Heneeded to be there for his family
I wouldn't have stopped myself.
The thing is, had he done that, no doubt someone would have come after his family in TN. They had found a form of peace there. He made the right decision.

I watch a lot of crime stories, but this one....I'm actually crying over this story. I was is shock when they put John on the screen and I realize he survived. When he came back home and said 'I'm done', I was so happy for him for getting to that place after planning and planning a revenge. Finally he let go of the anger and returned to his life... this family is amazing. And I was so anxious as they kept interviewing his wife alone, I kept wondering the entire time if they had split up at some point, and that last moment where they're together on the beach, that was the happiest part for me. They truly all healed as a family and managed to stay together and live a good life despite what had happened.

@@rnupnorthbrrrsm6123 someone deleted the police log entry before the paper was even printed with the previous day's police activity. Someone "paid" to have that entry removed. We have laws, you know? You can't just point and say, hey that is a bad guy, he needs to be in jail. No matter how true, you need to follow due process. Otherwise INNOCENT people will end up in jail too. If he had been killed, there would be no statute. The truth is, they had a better family life then most people. Certainly better then mine. My parents were bastards. If someone shot them, i probably would have celebrated. So don't make this more then it is.

Bloxburg tips :3 i mean people are different and some decide to abandon their families when the situation gets sticky or uncomfortable or hurtful for them
This story never gets old. Its a remarkable tale of family, courage, resolve and love. I will read their book. Blessings to this family.
Why would the cop show up in an unmarked car with a rifle and knock at the door all creepy like that, go to the back and do the same, and THEN reveal he was a cop coming to watch the house?! Scared the crap out of those kids
Right ✅️
That's exactly what I was commenting. If I had been that cousin I would not have trusted that guy at all. I wouldn't have even gone to the window. I would have grabbed the phone and tried calling the police.
Somebody send this to a Hollywood director!
Tia Time yeah. Because the Reine family is still living in Farmouth actively and people are still afraid of them! Somebody needs to let them “Smell the smoke!” 😂😂
@@ShayPeee
Organized crime and biker gangs etc operate the same way and they become untouchable
Seriously.
Tia Time yes...it’s Boston Matt Damon and Ben Affleck!!

The door knocking part. So stressful. Why am I watching this before sleeping?!

Tessa Jones sameeeee ima die
Lol me too!! Almost midnight and had to get up and make sure everything’s locked up haha
I like to eat strawberries
Yeah. Pretty scary......right.... That is the part that got me tensed up.
Shoutout to cousin Kellie for keeping her kid cousins safe, while still only a kid herself.
Watching this 9 yrs later. THANK YOU 48 HOURS. One, if not THE BEST presentations of a story.
It’s incredible how selfless, unique and courageous each one of these people are and together they are just an awe-inspiring family. The definition of which a family should be. They were failed by so many that should have had their backs but instead of holding on to bitterness due to that fact they continued through life always having each other’s backs. Just the simple fact that John couldn’t even allow himself to go under until he heard his family was safe despite the tremendous amount of pain I’m sure he was enduring speaks volumes.
Can you say the same for the police department???
So happy to learn that John and his wife found peace and still love and care for each other through trauma.
That’s ALL I want in life. Something so pure. That’s all a lot of people want. But almost impossible to find. 💔
That is so good to here. Sometimes that doesn't happen
God bless this beautiful family, I am so glad that he survived and they got to grow up with their dad despite the hardship.
Usually in a case like this the victim would be dead .. It’s so nice to hear the story from the Survivor himself not just from his family and friends ..
This hurts me to watch this. A good man and family.. My husband was a cop for 33 years and put in hospital 3 times..I just lost him.. He too was a good man.
🤗❣️
Linda Uribe May he Rest In Peace. Sorry for your loss

I'm sorry for your loss.May you feel his love always.❤
Linda Uribe sorry for your loss ❤️
Every one in the documentary “John WAS this John WAS that” John: *talks in the interview* me: 🤯🤯🤯🤯
He had a "voice over "
The man that he was died. The man that he is, is who he became after the shooting
that's called good editing
Right I thought he died
This police dept.was so scandalous. That could not happen in Louisville,Ky where I live. Our police run towards danger and this lowlife would have been behind bars. It's hard to grasp uncaring, cowardly policemen. It's a blessing this place is the exception and not the norm. God blessed this family with an abundance of courage and love.
Our dad's, as children, could move mountains. They could see around corners and could hear into the middle of next week. They were ten feet tall and could conquer any super hero.
They were our heros.
