    In 2000 I built a Q200 Quickie with O200A engine and installed ported, polished and flow balanced Superior Cylinders with 9.1:1 Lycon high compression pistons, and 2 Lightspeed Plasma 3 Ignitions with 4:1 ceramic coated exhaust.
    I zeroed the engine at that time. The plane now has 2010 hours on it so I decided to top it with all new same parts. I’m in the middle of it now. I’ve been very happy with my engine. The plane cruises at 195-200 MPH and I believe I’m getting 118-120HP out of it. Idle RPM is 450.

    Really looking forward to this one. I hope they offer the 0-200 D. In 118hp. It’s lighter than the old 0-200.

    Port work is such a game changer in IC engines. Any and every engine I work on gets some degree of port work, more for reducing heat and the associated knock, all by smoothing things out and removing casting flash, etc. Maximizing air flow is what engine "building" is all about vs just assembling the parts to get it out the door. I rebuild auto engines and folk are constantly asking me why my rebuilds are more than they would pay for a rebuild from a mass assembly operation. I tell them its attention to detail.

    What the chance of an STC for us mortals that live in the certified world. 118 would wake up a whole fleet of 150’s.

      Zero it costs astronomical amounts of money to get all the certs

    Can that 118 hp be achieved on 95 mogas?
    Ditto O300?
    GO 300?

      @JustPlaneChris Před 3 lety +2

      He may have meant "Butt-Wind", which is a cross between a Buttercup and a Tailwind. LOL! Seriously, it's been done and that's what it was called.

    I would like to swap the c85 for a 200 with 118hp on an Ercoupe. Possible? The 85 has just 73 hrs with good compressions. What would the expense of the swap be?

    Great video Brian. These ol’boys know there stuff. I would rather have one of there rebuilt 0-200’s than a new D model. They are using a lot of the D model parts to get under 200lbs. I don’t remember him saying what type warranty they offer?

    PSA- yelling "clear" and hitting the starter a 1/4 second later does not clear the area.

    Compared to O-235, I understand that the O-200 is lighter and O-235 have slightly more power and higher TBO hours (if this actually meant that O-235 is more reliable).
    Can this O-200 run mogas after mod?

    118 hp burns .45 to .5 lb/hp/hr or 8.9 to 9.8 gallons per hour. Cruising at 75 hp gets you 6.2 gallons per hour.

    • @dentech987
      @dentech987 Před 8 měsíci

      A friend is running high compression pistons in his O-300 172 and absolutely loves it. Way better climb and high altitude performance. Better fuel economy and lower egt's due to more complete combustion.
