    1:51 “Du tronar på minnen från fornstora dar” is a lyric from the Swedish National anthem. And it doesn’t mean, “Do you believe the stories from our grandfather?” But instead, “You are enthroned by great memories of the olden days,” referring to the former glory of the Swedish Empire.

    The Dalecarlians were the thoughest guerilla fighters in Europe back then. There are stories from German Landsknechte and Danish soldiers about how scared they were to even patrol Swedish forests, because you never knew when you were going to get a crossbow bolt between the eyes

    I love metal just as much as the next person if culture. But every once in a while, you find a song that just moves you somehow. Doesn't need to be explained. This is one of those songs for me.
    It makes me proud to be Swedish.
    And I'm not Swedish.
    But I work for a Swedish company and I have some Ikea stuff, so that counts, right?

    I think the story with the Swedish version is that similarity to Sabaton's Carolus Rex album is that the Swedish version is meant to act as a first-hand account of the event in question

    • @rr_gaming4954
      @rr_gaming4954 Před 3 lety +3

      Nope. It's about Sweden war of independence from the kalmar union (more specifically the danes) and the knights from "dalarna" that came to help king Gustav Vasa. Sabaton very briefly touched this topic on this in "livgardet" as the first few men that joined Gustav Vasa were the first members of livgardet, referenced in the lyric "traced their roots from 16 strong, by their king where they belong"

      Not really. It's about the "darlänningar" fighting for their own freedom to not get occupied by finnish people back those days. They sing "Nobody who's blue and white can understand" which refrences the finnish people. Long story short. They mainly were fighting for their self freedom at that point and keep a strongpoint between sweden and finland, which nowadays is lappland.
