  • To celebrate the channel hitting 3k subscribers, in this video I show you my entire 00 Gauge loco collection!
    Hey everyone, I wanted to do another special video to celebrate the channel hitting 3,000 subscribers recently and a lot of you have been asking me to do a loco collection video, so I've finally gotten round to doing it.
    In this video you'll see every 00 gauge loco I own, from the first engines I got as a kid to my Hornby Live Steam Mallard. There's quite a few locos I've never shown on the channel before too, so you'll definitely want to check this video out if you want a sneak peak of what's coming in the future.
    Again thank you so much for helping the channel reach 3k Subscribers - whether you're a new subscriber or have been here since the very beginning. Thanks for watching!

    So, I've absorbed thousands of hundreds of hours of youtubers talking on the topic of model railways, taken in thousands of pages worth of bile about how railways are unaffordable.
    Can I just say, in years of this, i mean literaly flipping years of this behaviour from youtubers you are the first person ever to admit publically that they had to save up as a child to buy a model or got one as a gift from a parent or grandparent as means of affording the "unaffordable" hobby.
    Thank you for saying this even in passing and not just pretending that you could buy a model loco for 20p when you were a kid and have spare change to go out and buy a PC a mobile phone and 7 new outfits from addidas.
    It begs belief that its taken this long and this much viewing to witness one, one solitary instance of someone saying "i had to save up for it".
    🏆🏅👌

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Před 2 lety

      Interesting, that's really surprising that no-one else has said anything similar - but I guess I've never really stopped to think about it before. Models were cheaper when I was younger but - being a kid - I had less money than I do now so I had no choice but to save up for something if I really wanted it. Even though I'm now in a much more privileged position I think I've stuck with that mentality since returning to the hobby. Thanks for watching 😃

    • @HamStrains
      @HamStrains Před 2 lety

      @@ThatModelRailwayGuy is a bit suprising isn't it, given the climate of people ranting about how the kids can't afford to just buy loco anymore... yet there it is, someome saying they had to save up, does rather run contrary to the narrative put forward by certain other youtubers as to then vs now. Likewise with this reply where you mention your are only in possession of such a collection and able to persue such a layout not out of it being a cheap hobby but out of good fortune one presumes through work or other means.
      A rare glimpse of reality in a sea of nonsense stand points found on youtube about model railways.

    The blue class 33 represents an ETHEL, which were designed to provide train heating. The London Midland Region were the first sector of BR to start using electric train heating; early Diesel engines were fitted with steam boilers so older steam heating could still be used. Problems arose when the sleeper services ran into Scotland, as certain routes, such as the line to Fort William, were unsuitable for class 47s, and the class 37s used on the route were still set up for steam heating. The ETHELs were put together as a solution, and were towed as part of the train to keep the passengers warm. They even saw use on rail tours, so perhaps its non-functioning status is actually more appropriate? 🤔

    Where can we get good quality (running and detail) j94 locomotives now?

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Před 2 lety +1

      Hmm, this is a tricky one. The Hornby ones are fantastic runners but they are older models. The detail isn't terrible (it's actually incredible given how old they are) but it's not Super Detail. That said they are relatively simple engines so it's easier to get away with it.
      On the other hand the ex-DJM now EFE branded J94's have better detail in some ways but I've heard lots of people have had issues with the running. It sounds a bit hit and miss on whether you get a good one or not and don't forget it's much more expensive than the Hornby version too.
      Unfortunately there isn't really a clear answer to this as it comes down to what each individual deems acceptable. For me the Hornby ones hold up to close scrutiny and their slow running ability makes them one of my favourite models to run.
      Sorry for the essay but hope that helps and thanks for watching 😃
